""build"" isn't even the right word

You're just attaching an upper and a lower via the 2 push pins at that point, and tightening two bolts (the rear sight and red dot).

>are the PSA uppers ok then?

Hit and miss, they vary a lot in quality depending on the components.

The "CHF" (cold hammer forged) barrels are top of the line though.

>midlength

It's the optimal length gas system for a 16" barrel. Carbine length was designed for a 14.5" barrel, and runs the action a little fast/hard on a 16" barrel due to the increased dwell time. Also midlength just looks better and more balanced with a 16" barrel.

I vote for the YHM 7.62 QD, but only the titanium version. It's lighter, quieter, and cheaper than almost any other can, AND it comes with a muzzle device.

If you aren't going to shoot anything hotter than 308 WIN out of it, you can save weight and length with the LT version too.

https://yhm.net/30-cal-ultra-light-tactical.html

I have the standard version, rated for 300 RUM, and you can see in this pic that it's a little over long on my 300 blk SBR

I know a thing or two about resonances, and by making each tine a different length you change the resonant frequency of each one. Tune it right and you can get destructive interference, if not at least reduce the overall amplitude of the sound coming off of the vibrating tines.

There's also an argument to be made for the Gemtech HALO.

You'll save hundreds of $ if you have multiple rifles. It works with a standard A2 bird cage--and tbqh the A2 is a fantastic muzzle device.

Truly an hero.

>>34689380
There's no riser in that photo, to what are you referring?
>>
>>34689346
The length, cross sectional area, and Young's modulus of the material is all the information you need to approximate the resonant frequency of a single tine, plus some shared damping factor based on the interface between the tine and the MD body.

It isn't about tuning the MD to a particular tone, but rather tuning each tine to a tone such that the superposition of the tones results in a minimum amplitude.

>>34689346
If the engineers are being simple, they'll just make the tines disparate enough lengths while still avoiding integral ratios between the lengths of the tines (to avoid modes), in order to reduce the overall amplitude of the sound waves originating from the vibrating tines. To the human ear a 90dB tone at a single frequency will sound louder than 3x 30dB tones at different frequencies, because at any given moment you're far less likely to have 90dB of sound pressure. How much less likely? depends on the three different frequencies.

If the engineers are going hard they might try to tune the tines so that the combined three frequencies result in a beating frequency below the threshold of human hearing, or below whatever frequency becomes imperceptible at that given sound pressure amplitude. Often we quote 20Hz to 20kHz for those with 100% ears, but this is simple a rule of thumb. The threshold frequency of hearing of course varies with amplitude, as does the amplitude threshold varies with frequency.

Out of curiosity did any of you randomly start kicking and doing grapple maneuvers in public?

I dealt with someone today who did this and he seemed interested in my rifle on my phone screen. I do not have any proof but I have a hunch it was someone from here.

>90% of college games are blow outs though

Only in the early season, and not all that often. the first 4 games are usually lower-class opponents that teams schedule as tune ups before their conference slate. There's no pre-season in CFB.

With so many teams in CFB, and so long that it's been played, there are dozens of historic rivalry games that have decades of honor and tradition on the line.

Ohio State vs Michigan is always a great game, and these days it almost always has playoff ramifications.

>and thank god for the playoff, it's made CFB 10x more exciting in its 3 short years.

College loans don't even start accruing interest until you graduate, and since they're literally paying for job skills (as long as you don't major in underwater basket weaving) they're an investment for future increased income. Maybe not in all parts of the country but where I live you can get a 5 bedroom house 10 minutes out of town on 5 acres of land for $260k. That kind of money would be more then enough for any single man and a dual income would more then cover all the other things.

Healthcare is the only major life ruining financial concern since some random accident can cost half a million. So you get a good insurance company that keeps your costs the low 10k range.

You want to send your children to college for 40k a year so they can learn to hate their skin color and be reprogrammed to think guns are vile? Most people are disappointed when they hear a 5.56 suppressed for the first time.

Once you get a can, you'll want to start running subsonics through it to really get the most out of it. 9mm and 300 blk are the easiest calibers to get subsonic ammo for in my experience.

I honestly haven't beat on my lancers much but I'll tell you two things I really dislike about aluminum USGI. I had 11 brand new never used green follower USGI aluminum mags starting about 2 years ago. Spent $30 replacing all the green followers with yellow followers. Started using them for plinking, drilling etc. I have maybe put around 3k rounds through them, and already two of them no longer drop free from my lower. This isn't just a random occurrence for me. Aluminum mags are known to go out of spec. Aluminum doesn't spring back, it simply deforms and stays deformed when subject to pressure. Secondly you can't seat them fully on a closed bolt if the mag is actually full. These things are definitely weakness of the design.

Thirdly, but an issue I have not personally run into, is the feed lips going out of spec. Once again they are aluminum. Under a hard drop they will deform, and won't deform back to spec. Polymer and steel both are elastic in this sense, and will spring back to their in spec tolerances assuming you don't keep dropping them over and over again.

The Lancers are commonly considered good to go. The design of polymer body and steel feed lips with steel wrapped around the body makes good sense, and improves upon the weaknesses of the USGI ones, namely aluminum bodies that can flex out of spec, aluminum feed lips that can flex and stay out of spec, and the inability to be seated on a closed bolt.
Just my opinion though. Many swear by USGI. I will not be buying/repairing any more.
>>
>>34690708
>Heard from a mil buddy that someone slapped a lancer into his rifle and the bottom fell out and it cracked along the mid line so it expanded in the mag well and couldn't be removed without tools.

That doesn't make sense. If the bottom fell out, the spring isn't there to provide force to wedge the split mag in the magwell.

"I recently purchased a VDI Enforcer slide assembly with the RMR cut for my Gen4 G17 9mm. The finish is very nice, and the machining seems top notch, however I've run into a couple of significant issues. First and foremost the Enforcer is supposed to come with the XS Standard Dot with tritium insert in both the front and the rear. The Enforcer is the same as the Slayer except without the red dot included.
My Enforcer slide assembly did not come with tritium night sights, which I expected. The sights that it came with are not night sights contrary to my expectations and rather disappointing.

Secondly my front sight is essentially entirely loose. This is problematic obviously. I have only shot one box of ammunition (50 rounds) out of this slide assembly, and I had several issues going into battery as well. Furthermore the ejection pattern (this might not be the issue with the slide but rather with the Glock frame) is terrible. All the cases land either on top of my head, down my shirt, or on top of the gun. "

Pt 2.

"Finally I had extreme trouble mounting my Trijicon RMR RM06. I bought the Trjicon RMR brand new from a local sporting goods store, and the supplied 6-32 Torx screws DID NOT FIT in the screw holes of the Enforcer. I am not sure what your tap tolerance/spec is, but I went to a local fastener store and sourced several other correct thread/pitch/count/size 6-32 screws in black anodization, stainless steel, and zinc plated, and none of them would fit either. Finally I found a stainless 6-32 screw that did fit, however it is bright silver and looks terrible, but more problematic is that it is a phillips head screw so I am not confident in the mounting strength or torque spec. In addition to that issue, this stainless screw is the same length as the Trijicon supplied black anodized torx screw, 6-32 by 1/2", except 1/2" (the size provided by Trijicon) is too long for your tapped holes and bottoms out before tightening down the RMR. I ended up having to grind down the 6-32 stainless phillips head screws by about 40 thousandths to get the clearance needed for the tapped holes. Even if your tap spec was compatible with the Trijicon supplied torx screw, your clearance depth would not be. Also the slide width doesn't even seem to be taking into account the actual width of the RMR. Attached is a picture where you can clearly see the RMR's o-ring hanging over the edge of the slide, ruining the seal.

I also wanted to confirm than if I send the slide in for warranty, when you correctly fit the slide with the night sights that you will also zero them? I shot another box of ammunition through the upper, about 50 rounds, and had several failure to go into battery. I was using brand new manufacture Aguila brass case copper FMJ ammunition. This is a massive reliability issue, and occurred with the firearm properly lubricated. So far I have put about 100 rounds through the pistol and have had 2-3 failure to go completely into battery per magazine."

Im new to the whole RMR on glocks thing but I just had my glock slide milled and cerokoted by maple leaf firearms for $100 and it fits extremely nice and tight. I also used the separate Trijicon screws that came with the sealing plate rather than the actual RMR itself if that makes a difference.

Very very neat. Very very jealous. I'll admit it my 6-9 month build plan is basically your rifle in function, with small changes. Grip, stock, optic, rail, and BFS mainly. Billet flared magwell lower though etc. And I am pretty set on the Omega. I'll keep doing research but it seems like the best bang for my buck.

>>34690767
I knew it wasn't going to be movie quiet, but I was quite pleased with the sound reduction. Wolf gold out of A2s 11.5" and the Omega was more than reasonable.

I've already looked into heavy grain non-cycling subsonic 5.56
Doesn't seem like there is much out there. Plenty of non cycling subsonic factory 55 and 62-63 grain but that isn't what I want. Doesn't make any sense not be be maximizing muzzle energy while staying subsonic and non-cycling by going to a 75 or 80 grain projectile that will stabilize fine in a 1/7 barrel.

It was more about just maximizing terminal ballistics of subsonic within the constraints of the 5.56

Are there any adjustable gas blocks than you can just switch off?

Would a heavy 85 grain 5.56 pushed right to the limit of subsonic muzzle velocity generate enough pressure to partially cycle the action? Ideally it wouldn't cycle the action at all.

>>34690986

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1016549622/atomic-ammunition-223-remington-subsonic-77-grain-hollow-point-boat-tail-box-of-50

77 grain subsonic 5.56
188 ft lbs muzzle energy. About twice the bullet grains and muzzle energy of a subsonic .22
An about 38% the muzzle energy of subsonic 220 grain 300 blk out.

Doesn't seem entirely useless lol.

1/7 should be able to stabilize up to 85 grain, which precisely loaded to 1080 fps plus or minus 10fps would result in 216-224 ft lbs of muzzle energy, almost an honest half of 300 blk out and definitely more respectable. My concern at that point would be that chamber pressures might be high enough to partially cycle the action, but of course not high enough to actually reliably run semi auto.

Are there adjustable gas blocks that can be switched off entirely?
