My boomer father got super mad this weekend when I kept asking him to define an assault weapon after he kept saying they should be banned this weekend. I managed to get out of him that he considers an assault weapon to be basically any semi-auto rifle that "looks like a military rifle". When I pointed out that the overwhelming majority of gun homicide victims are killed by handguns and that the Aurora theater shooter killed a lot of people with a shotgun (something my dad owns) he accused me of lying and making things up to further my agenda. Of course he could look these things up for himself, but I know he won't.
