CHF refers to how the barrel is rifled, melonite is a finish for the barrel. Your barrel is button-rifled, which is fine, and unless you're dumping in full-auto, chrome lining isn't necessary and melonite is arguably better. You didn't fuck up, and even if you did, barrels are a wear part that inevitably get replaced.

That would only mean anything if either if the following are true:

Basically, if someone dimpled the barrel and is not retarded, they should have only dimpled the barrel beneath the gas port. If that's the case, set screw spacing won't mean shit since one set screw is always directly opposed to the port (it's how they machine the gas port in the block out of one piece of metal)

Does this look like a decent gun? Comes with a flip up which is neat, I was considering just getting a carry handle sight instead though, so I dunno. I do like that it has the normal looking barrel profile instead of the normal M4 style with cutouts for a grenade launcher I will never acquire that most cheap ARs have.

After shipping and transfer fee I can go home with this gun for $460 before taxes.

What makes Del-Ton unreliable compared to the other options? I was under the impression that if you were getting a cheap AR you might as well go full miser because they are all made on the same milspec parts, and you only actually get more bang for your buck when you put in the money to invest in something more expensive.

Del-Ton is fine. My first AR was a Del-Ton upper, and it's been great. The only knock on it was the 1/9 twist barrel, but I'm pretty sure they're all 1/7 now.

That said, you'll probably be able to get a better AR from Palmetto State Armory. Del-Ton charges extra for chrome lined barrels, but a PSA melonite upper will be less than the chrome lined Del-Ton.

If you're willing to put in the time, you can get excellent results for half the price of Duracoat or whatever. If you have the FDE furniture from Magpul, you can get good results with cheap Rit dye from Wal Mart. I dyed FDE AK pistol grips to match my bakelite foregrips on my parts kits, and I was really impressed with the results considering the costs.
Personally, I'm weird like that. I love the look of of a well done rattlecan job over fancy anodizing like Colt and others were doing for a bit, and duracoat with fancy screen-printed camo decals.

I have the original MOE stuff on my AR but I do like the newer SL grip. You can really pull your right elbow in tighter with that grip angle as opposed to the regular MOE, at least for me.

If you're shooting an AR to kill something, it should be loaded with a minimum 69 gr HP, but preferably a 75 or 77 gr OTM bullet.

You're not limited to military FMJ ball ammo like Stoner was when he developed the M16. There's no need to push a bullet to "LUDICROUS SPEED" in order to make it lethal. Just buy a better constructed bullet.
