What would you recommend as a good first handgun for a woman living in a bad neighborhood?
I'm looking for
>quality
>ease of controls
>ease of recoil (so here's to hoping no one recommends me anything above 9mm)
>conceal-ability
All I've shot in my life is a full sized service handgun.

literally any full size handgun not made by hipoint, keltec, or taurus
or any AR15 claiming to be milspec by any manufacturer because handguns are a bitch to shoot , especially as a grrl

Sccy arms CPX 9mm or a glock 43/ 26 if youre looking for a carry gun.

Hey, a taurus judge is a great home defence weapon. You are almost guaranteed to hit anything you point the gun in the general direction of but if you see a bad guy and he's 5 ft from your TV then say goodbye to your TV.

Way to bring politics in to this, fuck nut. Maybe I just like the either series.

How do they work? Do I need to worry about safeties on either one?

>Sorry
Don't be. And to contribute to the thread, one of my favorites is S&W Model 36. It's small, compact, and has really nice wood grips. Most are coming into the market as used from old cops so the price isn't too bad and most of the time they're hardly actually used.

shit, I forgot a few
>charter arms
>cobra
>jiminez
>SCCY
>Lienad
>Phoenix arms
>any used firearm not made this century
>any Ruger LCR not in .38+P
>any revolver larger than a J frame
>any revolver not in .38 special or .357
avoid all these and you won't end up with your gun used as a orifice spreader in your rape
Glock 19 gen 4
>quality
known as the most reliable handgun
glocks used more by law enforcement and military than any other pistol
>ease of controls
no safety
no confusing single/double action hammer to mess with
just point and shoot
>ease of recoil
9mm is light even by women's standards
9mm is the lowest caliber to be viable in self defense situations
>conceal ability
as a woman you won't be able to conceal a weapon on your body
just stick it in your purse
>>34622585
after thinking about my girlfriend's hands i change my answer to either the glock 43 or 26. You should research whether you prefer single stack or double stack.

It appears you are unfamiliar with the rules. Time to GTFO.

ashamed of all of you right now. I'm going to nuke this thread. deus vult.
FNX 9mm is SA/DA semi automatic handgun that holds 17 rounds, polymer grip with stainless steel barrel and slide with interchangable back-straps to fit your hand. Its my concealed carry and my third child. My wife would get one but she prefers the Baretta 92FS. She also carries a purse so has the room for the dang thing.

I'm a fan of the Ruger LCP Gen 2
>Good quality
At least mine is, eats whatever I put into it and I haven't heard about quality control issues in the rest of the class.
>Ease of controls
Good ergos, no external safety to worry about, nice trigger pull and sights (I hear the last two were shit on the gen 1). Smooth enough that it won't snag on the draw
>Ease of recoil
.380 is fine even in such a small pistol.
Concealability
It's fucking tiny. Great concealability. I wear slim, light-weight slacks or scrubs most work days and this is one of the few pistols I can get away with. Also comfortable in summer.
Of course I'd prefer my glock with 17 rounds of 9mm but the best gun is the one you have with you. The LCP is comfortable enough that I can have it within reach 24/7 and completely forget I'm carrying it.
As for stopping power - no one wants to catch a bullet in their chest. Train to hit center mass and .380 will save your life as well as anything else.
>>34622684
Bersa Thunder Plus gives you 15+1 rounds of .380 on tap.

Purse carry a shit. Unless you enjoy giving your gun to any nigger that snatches your purse.

First off figure out how much you can spend. Note that you may not end up spending that much, but that way you can eliminate what you can't afford.
9mm is just fine and dandy with good shot placement. .380 or .32 ACP allow for a smaller/lighter gun, but skirt the minimum level of stopping power. No cartridge is sufficiently powerful to compensate for sufficiently poor shot placement. Be prepared to practice or just get some mace or a taser.
Ultimately you will need to go to a range and try couple of pistols and see which ones works best for you.
>>34622422
>blue board
>>34622652
This isn't a bad choice. Good DA/SA trigger, very light recoiling .380, easy to rack. The finish is a little rough and the safety decocker is on the slide and sort of stiff. EAA Witnesses/Pavonas are pretty simple to use budget choices with light slides.

This.

Are mace or a taser really that good for self defence? I hear a bit of conflicting evidence, especially towards mace. Tasers I hear are generally effective though.
