Not north of the 49th, good buddy. It's a fun shooter, can be found in just about every consignment section of any firearms shop (model 60s, too), and costs so little that buyer's remorse is virtually inconceivable. It being a single shot rifle also helps promote good habits. Dad learned on it, I learned on it, and my little girl will learn on it as soon as she's a bit bigger and gets her finger out of her goddamn nose.

Trigger-pull won't win any awards, ever, but on a first rifle that costs between two and three hours wage and puts rounds where you want 'em that's hardly a deal-breaker.
>>
>>34602592
Best low budget option would be a Savage Mark II. They feel like toys but they're reliable as all hell, very accurate, and Canadian made. The sights are hot garbage though.
If you can afford something better, get a CZ 455 of some kind. I'm importing a trainer model from the states.
>>
>>34602572
Well I'm not made of money but I have a halfway acceptable amount of gun money I'm not using because shotguns and rifles don't cut it for me anymore plus the time it will take to get my RPAL processed to save so I'd be able to get more interesting stuff than say a Tokarev.

Also the main thing that got me into guns was CS 1.6 so getting a USP isn't far removed from being a dream of mine. I'd probably get it in .45 though, is that good/bad?
>inb4 9mm vs 45 shitposting
>>
>>34603710
>.45
that's the only correct caliber for the usp.
>>
>>34603766
Yeah before anon said it I didn't even know they existed in 9mm desu
How is .45 for someone who's new to handguns?
>>
>>34603777
it's fine, 'beginner calibers' are a meme.

a usp in 45 will shoot with about the same felt recoil as a lot of 9mms.

the price of .45 sucks, ~50c/rnd so you'll end up getting a 9mm in the future anyways.
>>
>>34603915
I guess that's fair.
Every time I see someone at the range with a cheap bucket of 9mm I get jelly a bit.

Anything but .22
I wanna shoot firearms, not glorified BB guns

Cooey 60 or 600 even better. All the same things, but has a tube mag. Usually can be found for the same price.

Could also recommend Lakefield Mk II (same as Savage Mk II). I got a mint one with a 4x Nikon and good rings for $300 at a show last year, very worth it. I take a lot of nogunz to the range as an intro to the sport, and they all love that one.

Find a old one, like a cooey 60.

My first was a mossberg 46m and it's better than the cooey cos it's faster to shoot. Like substantially faster, it has a <90 degree bolt through, and the bolt is right at the roof of the trigger. You can mad minute this shit.

This meme of the list is nothing more than a meme.

No RCMP is not gonna tap your phone lines, and monitor your emails. Bell, and google are already doing that for them.

You are apparently background checked everyday if you get a PAL or RPAL, but really, if something bad enough happened, you'd be in police custody anyway.

Stop being a meme. Get your PAL, with more PAL holders you're safer.

So they publish the names and addresses of all firearm owners.

That's no special list for you, it's like the government publishing a list of all drivers in the city or whatever. And the government publishing that makes the government retarded and irresponsible.

Firearm ownership isn't a right. It's a privilege. You don't have a choice in that.

What you do have a choice in is to get a PAL and bolster the number of gun owners, to make a louder fuss to get some better treatment.

>>
>>34609825
Yeah I know, I'll no doubt pick one up eventually, but right now I think I wanna go really milsurpy, I'm a big history buff and its a big reason for getting my PAL. Was asking and looking around a bit for Mosins, didn't find really anything but that was just a cursory search, what are they going for nowadays and whats the availability? If anyone knows of the top of their head.
>>
>>34609839
A fair bit, they're likely from the late 18th century, 45 cal. They're actually breech loaders, the barrel screws off the receiver and you load it that way, although the barrels are both apparently seized on to the guns. They've been in my family for a long time. My grandfather gave them to me, and his father gave them to him. They're marked "Playfair Aberdeen", which would make sense as my grandfather was born in Scotland.
>>
>>34609812
How much were those sig green rifles?
>>
>>34609871
>Not him, but that's an old school dueling pistol set.
Not dueling pistols, they're pocket pistols or carriage pistols. They're not a matched set. they were essentially the jennings of the day, relatively inexpensive defensive weapons. Duelling pistols are generally much larger, are in a matched set, and have sights. The lock mechanism on these pistols are actually in the middle of the mechanism. They also have a fairly elegant safety system which locks the frizzen closed and sets the lock in place.
>>

I really want a Type 38 and a Type 99.

They're really neat guns. Like autistically perfectionist and simple.

Does yours have a matching dust cover to bolt?

Also what's the possibility of importing old guns from US. i have a contact in the US who can get me jap guns, but idk how complicated it is to bring a gun into the country.
>>
>>34609992
>Also what's the possibility of importing old guns from US

Get in touch with Irunguns or Prophet River, they can help with imports. For something like an old bolt-action it should be fairly straightforward.
>>
>>34609992
All parts are matching on the rifle except for the sling and cleaning rod, which are reproductions.
I need to get a Type 99 next but they're even more uncommon.
Importing from the US isn't too hard but very costly. You have to convert into US dollars, then pay at least $100 for the import fee as well as shipping.
>>
>>34609956
Thanks for the info, and that's a great link thanks very much. That Chilean 1918 Mauser in .308 is very much peaking my interest, specially with that price, ill have to ask around the surplus thread about those. And hell yeah im interested in some hex mosins, imma check that out.
>>
>>34609955
>Why .223 wylde? How long ago did you get them?
.223 Wylde because the tighter chamber tolerances lead to more consistent groups. With handloads or good ammo it shoots MOA. I got the NR rebarreled carbine about a year ago, the restricted carbine I've had for about 6 years. I did have 2 others, both full sized rifles, a Classic Green with diopter sights, and a Black Special flat top. They were both quite good, but the carbine is a little more accurate and about a pound lighter.

Have any of you guys handled the new norinco m305 in 7.62x39?

Do they have the same QC as the x51 model like improperly indexed barrels and such?
>>
>>34613245
Go to Rimbey's. It's decent
>>
>>34613325
I never said they were less accurate. They have lower reliability, simply because they are not as rugged as the AK and have a much bigger ejection port which leads to stovepiping like on the SKS and many other guns with large top ejection ports.
>>
>>34614424
Unless you're shoveling mud into the open ejection port, then it's as reliable as an AK is. As for stovepiping, if you don't fuck with the gas system or use super underloaded hand loaded ammo then that won't happen either. The only real complaint to be made is the CZ858 specific gremlin issue, and that's because of a shitty semi auto conversion.

The only issue I've had with mine was the bolt catch (fixed for like 10 bucks).
If you mean accuracy it's a moot point, even the Guddi M14s aren't accurate at all by modern standards. The Garand action isn't made for accuracy even if you can improve it a bit.

About $2000 for a Valmet Hunter
$4000+ for a Valmet M78
Cool gun but personally I would get a Swiss Arms over it, that being said if you love AKs, it'll be just what you want

>>34619882
They choose it to be a special snowflake. The VZ58 is not a bad gun, but it's not as good as an AK. When they were $700 they were a fantastic deal, but now they're overpriced for what they are. They have a poor aftermarket and less reliability. Sure they're better than an SKS, but they're not amazing.
In SHTF I would take my AR15, much less malfunctions than an SKS (stovepipes), lighter and easy to clean.

How's the P226 Legion
>>
>>34621459
The finish apparently wears off very easy, aside from that it's like any other P226 but more expensive.

The Arex Zero 1 is a P226 clone I'm kinda interested in, except it improves on the P226.
>>
>>34621536
The Arex beat it out in a side-by-side torture test, for what it's worth.
>>
>>34621536
>it's like any other P226 but more expensive.
Could you explain
The only handgun experience I've ever had was shooting 20 rounds from a 9mm glocknade
>>
>>34621538
Yeah I saw that. I wonder if he just got really lucky or if they're really all that durable. I also really like that the decocker doubles as the slide release.

>>34621588
As far as I can tell, it's a regular P226 with some kind of fancy finish, nicer grips, a different trigger, night sights, and comes with some kinda fancy collectors coin. When it first came out, there were lots of reported issues with the finish coming off really easy, not sure if that's still the case.
>>
>>34621628
Okay, I'll rephrase
How is shooting a P226?
>>
>>34621656
Not him, but the controls feel weird to me. I instinctively hit the slide release instead of the safety and the safety instead of the slide release...
>>
>>34621656
Oh, I couldn't tell you. I've held, but never shot one. Only sig I've shot is my P320, but that's a whole different beast.

>>34621675
That's one of the other ways the Arex improves on the P226, the decocker doubles as the slide release, so the slide release is in a natural location, and then they put a safety where the slide release would be on a P226.
>>
>>34621694
Oh shit, DO WANT.
>>
>>34621409

>>
>>34621702
Shame they're not available right now. They were only on irunguns and they sold out. Maybe you can import one from the US site? They were 633 USD, which comes to 795 CAD before shipping and taxes, but it's still less expensive than a P226.
>>
>>34621772
Not like I have the dosh for it now anyway.
>>
>>34621656
I have a MK25
>>34621675
I don't know how he has a SIG with a safety.

For me, I had to train around the slide release, otherwise I would ride it and the gun wouldn't lock back.
Otherwise it's a great shooter, the finish is bomb proof, and it shoots better than west german's I've shot.

If the AREX was around back then I would have bought it instead. I still will likely be buying an AREX. Alot of people seem to complain that it has a safety when normal P226's do not, but the safety literally has to swing near 70 degrees upwards to activate, your hand will come into contact with it guaranteed on the draw, and it's not in a location where it can easily activate
>>
>>34621775

There aren't very many wrong options. Ruger 10/22s are great, but they're like the glock of .22 rifles and you're probably going to feel a strong desire to dump money into it to improve it the more you play with it. Marlin Model 60s are apparently good, but I've never shot them before.

Savage Mark II for bolt actions, they feel like toys, but they're reliable as fuck, canadian made, more accurate than you and I are, and dirt cheap. The sights on them suck though, assuming you want to shoot with sights.

CZ 455 is like the best when it comes to .22 bolt actions, but they're a lot more money.

Quick message to my fellow Canucks, some of my ebooks are free for the weekend. For those interested, Living amongst the Dead is the first book in a zombie survival series based in Canada, lots of travel involved, heavy emphasis on realism and survivalism. Firearms seen/used are ones commonly found in the county.

It's a nice build. I'm not usually all that into optics or paint jobs but it's lookin' good. I notice that the scope is far ahead enough to where you can still reload with clips (if you have a clip feed guide, can't tell) which would be smart. If the mag capacity is limited to 5, might as well carry clips instead of mags. Even if you use AIA 10-rnd mags, with practice you can reload with 2 clips just about as fast as by swapping mags. Even if the case was that you had unlimited capacity, it's still handy to carry half the ammo in clips since it saves on weight, bulk, and money.

>>34610910
The vZ and AK are visually appealing in their own ways, personally I look the look of beaver puke furniture. As for the issue of reliability, the tighter tolerances suggests a theoretical 'yes' to it being less reliable than an AK, but I'd have to see some actual side-by-side tests to accept the claim that the vZ is less reliable than the AK. Either way though, I personally think the vZ is the more desirable of the two. Can be reloaded with either clips or mags, bolt locks open on an empty mag as I recall, about the same weight as a Russian AKM but has a milled receiver, alloy mags are SLIGHTLY lighter than plastic Russian mags (by .05lb, practically negligible but I consider it beneficial none the less), and the only thing I truly consider it to have as a known negative to an AKM is that its mag release isn't ambidextrous.

>>34610920
>no bolt hold open
It not only helps with clip reloading; it's a physical and visual way of informing the shooter when they're empty. I still think it's a valid point to the vZ that it has a bolt hold-open while the AK does not.

How did you go about doing it?
>>
>>34628144
I go shooting around muskoka whenever i can, cos i don't like ranges, and rather spend the time camping fishing and shooting innawoods for like 2 days.

I had my smol game tag which i got along side my fishing tag, and walked around with my 22, and was really looking out for what is available around that area.

Again no experience under my belt, but i did cap a rabbit that was standing around which i roasted later.

I was really looking out if there was something like durr or larger game around. I could justify stalking with my smol game tag if asked, and did only have a 22, that was my thinking. I know deer was in season at the time, but i didn't see any.

Keep in mind i got my licence last year, and only did this one. My next plan is to try and go turkey hunting with my SBS, and see how that goes, but again, 0 experience and i live in Toronto so will probably never find a hunting buddy.

On another note i need suggestion on a better hunting vest, i got a el cheepo at can tire and it's very uncomfortable.

Thanks a lot, the support is highly appreciated. Explain your preferred collapse a bit more. Sounds basically like electronics are down, Government is down, Police lost control, lawlessness, and in a way it's the apocalypse without the zombies, but perhaps towns and cities still exist somehow? Or are they out too, with only some enclaves of people who work together either for nefarious purposes (gangs who want to rape/pillage/steal/murder) or for self-preservation (groups that get control of territory and defend it with lethal force but with no intent to fuck with other groups)?

I THINK I might have something to that effect. Firearm Valhalla, slightly post-apocalyptic, technology has taken a huge hit but lots of firearms and ammo about, everyone carries regularly, bad shit happens, it's basically my 'gun porn' book and to a small extent I also took inspiration from the STALKER series but only in that I love the idea of there being a HUGE variety of firearms that people carry regularly, but nowhere near as many AKs about. Also, it's dedicated to /k/, says so in the book itself right at the start. Also, I took the picture for pic related myself. Great rifles, each and every one of em.

grid down is a very elegant and clean sort of collapse scenario: everything changes while seemingly nothing changes. one second your cellphone and tv were working, gas station was pumping gas, lights and running water were taken for grandted and the hyperconnected society with billions of communications mananging complex automated and fine tuned systems that run our society -- just shut off, a switch is flipped and for the first few minutes probably nobody even notices.

it's a sort of hard reset of the world, but it is for the most part extremely fair. there is no nuclear war to damage nature and resources, there are no alien invaders with insurmountably superior firepower or zombie hordes that introduce a massive shift in reality -- nothing changes and everything changes.
the readjustment period and initial paradigm shift, the new reality that requires people to refocus on basic necessities, is a sort of polar opposite of the society we have today. having a world suddenly stripped of technology and communications means the large systems can't be sustained, government can't govern, banks can make loans, police can't maintain order and enforce laws without as much as basic communications, never mind supply lines to supermarkets, no heat and water. people watching and beginning to realize just how far we have strayed from nature and from being self-sufficient, just how little real world skills we have and how dependent on the system we have become.

it's a reboot where everyone has equal chances to survive if they are prepared to do so, if they can manage the skills and the supplies (prepared ahead or gathered) if they think faster and are more ready to act, etc.

I will check it out too, btw, you might want to consider changing the cover. maybe put the guns on like a nice concrete texture or wooden deck or just grass, the flash-lit room with guns in a crumpled bed is just not doing it

idk man, it isn't an AK variant and they aren't trying to make it one, it's the retards at TacImp trying to cater to muhAyKayy autists, refinished old wood on the rifle to be way lighter than standard and marketing the fixed stock while original Chinese use almost exclusively the collapsing one. The original aesthetics of the rifle are great and aren't supposed to look like AK

if I could go to local shop to fingerfuck one, I'd consider it. honestly aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder, I think FNC, G3 and Stoner 63 are sexy as fuck and would happily melt all the FALs in the world with their ridiculous Pinocchio barrels and goofy looking receivers if I could get those three to be non-restricted and available
>I think Stoner 63 is technically NR but the original semi-only models are unibtanilum and the Robson clones are apparently trash (it is Robson after all)
TL;DR: to each their own

as it is now, I'll wait for reviews and a few thousand rounds down range before considering it. it will likely be within 700-750 range in a few years, remember when T97 first came and they were like $1200 or so in the first run?

>I'll wait for reviews and a few thousand rounds down range before considering it
I seriously doubt there'll be any in stock past the preorder for at least a couple years at best.
>>
>>34630451
eh, I know TacImports said this is one run and then they'll have to wait until whenever factory is ready to make more, but I honestly believe that's a sales tactic. once a factory tooled up to produce a rifle, they're not going to retool for something else after one run, they'll make some for Southeast Asian markets, which Norinco sells in like hot cakes (I think first review of Gen 2 of the T97 was from Pakistan), and chances are if the first batch sells well and reviews are positive TacImp can kiss their exclusive goodbuy; just like with other Chinese stuff, bringing up T97 again I guess, one dealer got to skim off the first run, then all the others started making orders and selling them too, and price went down fairly quickly
at best the next run is a year away, which is probably the amount of time we should wait for thorouth beta-testing by guys who bought in on the first run and get to enjoy them first
