There is absolutely nothing wrong with using steel plate if you get the anti-spalding rubberized coating. They have been shown to take 7 rounds to nearly the exact same spot before failing. A small increase to weight however you benefit from overall lower prices and significantly thinner plates.

Not much of a gear queer, but a guy had a plate carrier, a bunch of pouches, some plates, and a bladder for $100, and I bought it as an impulse. I've been doing some reading, and I'm gathering that Condor is shit. I did some googling, and it looks like that's what I got. Posting here to get your guys' confirmation. I'm not going to be bummed out if it is a shit rig, because it's more for funsies, and I can always save up for a better one if I like the idea of having a plate carrier.

its a condor for sure

they do work in a slight manner, the stitching tends to be shit and they fall apart quickly in serious use. They do hold armor though. just use it till it falls apart and save money for a better PC if you so choose to buy one. Just know that the condor you have is going to be really heavy, hot and not comfy at all

Stolen valor SAPIs are like $100 on Armslist/Craigslist/gun shows, there is no reason to compromise on steel plates.

Honestly, I don't mind too much either way. There are hundreds of reviews that say steel is just as good if not better. I had a handful of anons on a Icelandic rice pudding pen pal registry telling me either wise. In the end I still have plates that suit the need.

If I had to do it all over again maybe I'd get ceramic but I'm perfectly happy with the thinner more robust steel.

No. Ballistic helmets are dumb if you're not in a combat zone.

They're designed to protect you from frag/shrapnel. How often would you ever see that as a civilian?

It's not worth the weight penalty. A quality bump helmet is the way to go.

Those china plates are pretty light though. And $233 is very cheap. It is cool that they're also level IV hybrid plates, as I haven't seen to many of those. Peltor Rangeguard anon here again, thanks for the (you)s last thread. Florida anon my question to you is:
>>34564497
Amazon review says the following:
>Despite information saying these could not be used with the Peltor RangeGuard electronic earmuffs ( ), I had also seen information saying they could be used, so took a chance and ordered a set.

>The gel seals are mounted on plastic rings, with adhesive. The plastic rings they are mounted to are not compatible with the RangeGuard, However, the seals can be carefully peeled off the plastic ring. The same is true of the foam seals the RangeGuard has from the manufacturer. Simply carefully peel off each set of seals, and put the gel seals on the RangeGuard rings. I did it in less than 10 minutes.

Is this accurate?

>frag/shrapnel
>How often would you ever see that as a civilian

Very often. Extremely often.

What are:
>pressure cooker bombs
>pipe bombs
>factory explosions
>car explosions
>your sylvia plath neighbor who blows up their house
>natural disasters
>civil unrest
>riots
>nigger lives matter
>niggers at all

And those aren't even bullets. What do you think happens to a bullet after it travels a long distance and loses most of its energy? A fairly slow moving metal object isn't shrapnel? If any of this shtf nonsense fantasy were even remotely close to happening in the US, it's going to be 99% overweight bubbas taking shots at several hundred yards which have a decent chance of being stopped- even if it's a direct hit, and more likely if it's a ricochet or anything.

Yes, notice that on very few Armor tests they have anything above the plate, usually it's just on a torso with no head.

I've seen a few videos where guys did use a torso with a head attached and the spalling on steel armor goes directly up into the chin/neck

Would be a very bad day and almost impossible to fix.

It makes sense, because the bullet flattens out when it's stopps, and the fragments fly directly off the sides of the plate.

Most "Spall Liner" steel armor has is literally just truck bed liner.

Honestly I'm surprised that 3A doesn't get more love here. 95% of gun violence is handguns, and 3a soft plates are like 1.001lbs each.
>>
>>34573064
Even as an urban-fag I still own hard plates. It's true that more crimes are currently committed with handguns (poor data collection at local levels make it unclear to what extent this extends to rifle-caliber pistols like dracos).

That being said your average anon is not buying armor to defend against "typical" violent crimes. In a mugging situation obviously your 3a is useless unless you really wear that shit daily. In a home defense situation either soft 3a or level III or IV hard plates will probably get the job done if you even have time to throw armor on.

In a more serious situation like rioting, societal collapse, etc there is no real reason to believe that criminals will just continue using pistols when there is less need to conceal their weapons, there is a greater need for firepower, and semi auto rifles are this common.

Serious answer, the effect might be mitigated, but rule of thumb if it's going high enough velocity to mess you up it's fairly reasonable to assume it's going fast enough to puncture a carrier

but the ballistic program is the whole reason I'd get it over my current 401
>>
>>34574622
Yeah, Idk about that shit. Im just gonna get the 601. 250 is fair. But I guess if I was the DOD or a long range shooter, it might be nice to have. My guess is they had a high price, because its a collab of sorts with Applied Ballistics and the 701's will likely get a government contract of sorts. So it benefits them to up the price. I agree its stupid though.

>>34574634
I recommend to people to get the 401, which is awesome and more affordable than ever. But for gear queers its nice and new. But there is def. some new features that are worth it IMO. It will be more durable, longer battery life, night vision compatible, supports GPS, Glonass, Galileo, better screen res.

--

I wouldnt really recommend to someone who has a 401 already to upgrade to it, but if your in the market for a GPS, and you dont have a 401 already. This is a step up. As someone who has used the 401 a lot, and has multiple garmins, I look forward to getting this and letting you guys know how it goes.

>But I guess if I was the DOD or a long range shooter
thats why its bothering me, I am just starting to get into long range shooting and would love the 701. I think im going to just go with a 601, the applied ballistics app for phones is $30 and I just cant bring myself to pay them an extra $350 to flash the app onto the thing.
>>
>>34574743
iirc 5-6 weeks. I ordered a small though and I know that they dont make those a lot. I think id give it two more weeks, they shipped pretty quick once I received my notification that it shipped.

Yeah, the 701 would be nice. Shame its priced for contracts and not really individual pricing. If it was something reasonable like 50-100$ more, id pick it up. If your long range shooting at a range though the app is the way to go, since you wont have to worry about breaking your phone on a hajji hut or someshit.

Does anyone have any experience with the Peltor A-Bravo bump helmet? It's really cheap, $59 for a base one and $75 for a tricked out, super tactical yadda yadda yadda one is kinda suspicious. I intend to use it for mounting night vision, earpro, light and protecting my noggin from getting hurt. Is it going to work for that, or is it better to save up and pay the crazy $270 for an Ops-Core BUMP or a Team Wendy Exfil LTP?

My Howard Leights pick up all sorts of electronic noise. They did shit all for shielding.

Still waiting for the industry to release a decent pair of electronic ears for around $100 that work with radios (Howard Leights don't really since they cut out the mic ambient input if you're using the 3.5mm jack), and that don't have shit squealing like the Howard Leights.

Alright, so I'm this guy from yesterday. I was planning on hiking around (mucking) in a marsh today, and I did NOT wear my shorts, and boy am I glad I didn't. I was pushing through tall grass for about half an hour along the banks, and my pants were soaked, and it was a fairly dry day. Also, had I not been wearing pants all kinds of shit would have gotten into my boots including water.

Shorts are not okay for anything except range memeing or possibly innadesert where there are no low lying bushes or cactii. I'll stick to pants.

I like wearing shorts when camping or hiking, but definitely not for operating, and especially not for going off of trail. A good pair of pants will breath decently enough, and the comfort of being a bit cooler is not worth the increased exposure to bugs, and little miscellaneous cuts and scrapes.

Having shot an 80 dollar, used Polish kevlar helmet over 40 times with 9mm, .40 SW, and .45ACP without anything going through, I can definitively say that this is a lie. Frag rated helmets are designed to protect from frag, IIIA helmets are designed to protect from IIIA threats.

10x12 should work no problem.
>>
>>34576999
Small/Medium SAPI sized carriers should fit smaller 10x12"s that have actual dimensions of around 9.5x11.5"

If it is a true 10x12" plate you might have a hard time squeezing it into a small/medium SAPI sized carrier. Some people on here have had that experience. At the same time you might be able to get it in. 10x12" seem to be kinda a toss up that may or may not fit well or not so well in either small/medium or large/XL SAPI sized carriers.

Sorry for the absolutely useless info. To be 100% sure you're going to want to actually test it if you can, or get the information from someone else.

Yes Anon is right 6094 is definitely more forgiving, should fit anything but the most horrendously oversized 10x12"s just fine.

It does depend on the carrier, and the 10x12". What 10x12"s are you looking at?

I think overall its fine, but a few upgrades id make... (not a criticism just you asked)

- An IFAK that is a tear away. I spent many years with a non tear away ifak and im glad i upgraded.

- Might as well replace the closed AR mag pouch with another taco or open pouch. Just for fluidity. If I were you id consider replacing it with one of the tacos on the belt. Since you don't have suspenders I usually dont recommend two AR mags on the belt.

-Add a TQ to the belt, if its not in the IFAK. The belt is perfect as a way to have the minimum supplies, if you have to drop your chest rig or PC.

-A sling

-Adjust the belt to the perfect area, and secure the excess straps better. Ive used that buckle before and it works well, but It still can have movement. Not much you can, but it is what it is.

- Ditch the grenade pouch and add an admin pouch. You can do far more with nav gear, note taking gear, and a radio, than you can do with one grenade.

Just my 2 cents. Overall not really bad. Just giving some ideas.

Not sure what you mean? If your talking about chest rigs, there is a reason they are called chest rigs. They arent meant to be belly rigs. They arent supposed to be on your upper pec. But either way, I know most rigs ive tried on have a ton of fabric to adjust with.
Also you can buy S M L plate carriers? And plate carriers arent supposed to protect your groin. So im not sure what you mean.

I think they probably fit you fine, and your over estimating the protection of what a PC is supposed to give you. Most people over size them, and they are doing it wrong. Someone will post the infographic and show whats its supposed to cover.

I like mine a lot. Very comfortable padding. I had to do a hack to the cummerbund to make it fit me but I'm a hungry hungry skellington. Comes with the Mayflower APC style quick clips and the hook and loop to match if you are into that. The shoulders make it easy to route hydration tubes.

If there was 1 downside, it's that while it is capable of taking side plates, it doesn't fit the soft inserts I rat fucked.

They get recommended by the slavaboos, and I think they look kinda cool. No actual experience though.

Bunch of initial impressions of the shit I ordered during the 4th of July sales incoming. Haven't operated in any of it yet, but I should be this coming weekend.

Okay so first up is the HSGI AO Small chest rig. This is a swift clip compatible molle panel chest rig with velcro on the rear and 6 side release buckles total, two on top and two on each side.

It is quite well thought out. What I like most is that is that the panel has a sort of interior pouch that one could use to stuff the velcro cover panel when you're actually interfacing with a carrier. The chest rig straps could also go in there during a pinch. nice touch. Has a drag handle, and build quality seems solid. Definitely has inspired me to eventually replace my ATS war belt with the HSGI sure grip. HSGI calls this an 8 molle column panel, but if you're running Fight Light Malice clips you could utilize it as a 10 molle column panel because there are the corresponding loops on either side for two extra columns.

On the chest rig so far I've got the Tactical Tailor canteen pouch. I took this off of my war belt because it was a little hard to use behind the back. Should perform better up front now. Kinda overbuilt, the ATS small upright GP pouches make better Nalgene pouches. I've also got the Tactical Tailor Fight Light smoke pouch. This pouch also seems solid, much less overbuilt than the other Tactical Tailor non Fight Light stuff I've got. Fits a genuine M18 smoke perfectly. I've also got a double stack ATS mag shingle. This shingle is pretty light, durable, and I've used it a bit on my battle belt. Doesn't leave much to be desired except sometimes getting mags in can take a second, and it certainly isn't optimized for speed reloads.

Currently still have 4 columns of molle free. Looking for recommendations for what else to put on the chest rig. Mags?

>Impressed
for $69 so am I. Comes with straps, and HSGI build quality is good to go. I might buy a second to keep as a spare for when I eventually do an AR10 rig.
>Who cares you can't afford it anyway and tomorrow you'll be asking about something else.

I was thinking another double stack ATS mag pouch for 4 rifle mags total, and then maybe Another smoke pouch? Or a micro IFAK so that the chest rig can act as a standalone rig by itself if need be.

Where is Giddy? I want him to tell me if my plates give enough coverage. I took a picture just for him.

I also got a Velocity Systems Lightweight Plate Carrier. I got it in small/medium with large cummerbund on clearance from ATArmor for $135 shipped. I think I got their last Multicam one because I don't see any more. For Anon who was asking about ATArmor, they are most certainly good to go. I pestered them about shipping since they were taking a while (they're in the middle of relocating), and they were responsive by email right away. Little handwritten thank you note with the invoice. Would order from them again, except their inventory is kinda thin.

The LWPC is definitely lightweight. Much lighter than my previous 6094 AWS OCPC. I look forward to seeing how it holds up because you can definitely tell that it is 500D. Design is nice. Holds my Armour Wear 10x12" plates decently well, but the plates are a bit "short", still not too much slop in the plate pouch. Hook and loop is quality, genuine multicam, stitching looks solid with double stitching and reinforced stitching in several key places. I was worried about the shoulder pads as they don't look substantial, but they seem like they will be fine. I imagine Medium SAPIs would fit in here like a glove. My only complaints are that my 10x12" Armour Wears (Actually baby 9.5x11.25") don't fit quite as tight as I'd like, and the shoulder pads aren't removable unless you cut them.

soft armor prices vary greatly, the benefit is added ballistic protection in some cases where you have less coverage with amall plates, also you get somjem impact reduction becasue it helps to distribute the impact force if you get hit. beyond that, its am meme some units in the military use. The added weight might not be great too, unless you are using it to cover less critical areas not covered by small plates

Because the Silencerco Radius is a range finder? Its a completely different product? And the time reference is really just to show prolonged battery life. Its highly un likely that youd use the GPS mode for 48 hrs straight too. But 48 hours of GPS usage can last a week if you only use a few hours a day. So its just a reference. Personally yeah I use a separate watch for time.

I recommend the 401 for the price, but if you have extra dosh and your a gq the extra features are worth the 100$ price increase.

Late to the party, but yes these have been tested by reputable sources on youtube. Don't have the link on me atm, but they are verified to take multiple 7.62x39 hits and 7.62x54 rounds. Get it, great prices honestly.

If you want to make it more accurate, measure from the point in between his heels. You're measuring height, plus the length of his foot by doing it from his toes, given the fact that he's standing at an angle.

7 1/2 at best.
