You look thicker. That is good. School is a priority. I hope to god I'm not posting this much come fall semester.

Could use some tips for this uncompleted chest rig. I've got 4 columns of molle left unused. I was thinking the Tactical Tailor Fight Light double mag pouch so that the rig has 4 rifle mags total, then either another smoke grenade pouch so I can carry two smokes, or some sort of micro IFAK or gp pouch. The tactical tailor canteen pouch that is on there seems to take up more room that it needs to. Kinda annoying. I want to have a single 1L nalgene on the rig. A TQ will be going on it regardless, but a small IFAK also seems like a good idea.

Anyone want to buy the Tactical Tailor Canteen Pouch? $25 shipped with Malice clips. Fits Nalgene like a glove.
>>
>>34589645
mags off chest will always be quicker than mags off your stupid battle belt thing. Focus on shifting your auxilary gear (ifak, smokes, nalgenes) to the belt and your ammo to your fighting gear
>>
>>34589864
Belt is supposed to be line one though. I guess I could try to make the chest line one. I don't know. Tactical Tailor Nalgene Pouch is annoying. I wonder if LLG would give me a smoke grenade for it.

My single fast mag reload is that Esstac KWYI shorty pouch. Could try it on the chest.
>>
>>34589899
Think about what gear is easiest to shed first, your chest rig or your stupid web gear?

>use up chest rig/carrier
>gotta go fast
>ditch chest rig/carrier
>still have a belt with ifak, water, pistol mags and maybe rifle mag
>>
Does anyone here use a single belt to hold up pants but also carry pouches, firstline gear etc?

Assuming the belt doesn't need to be emergency-release, you could save bulk by having one belt instead of two.
>>
>>34590138
I think you wear a inner velcro belt and an outer rigger's belt with a liner of mating velcro to grab on.

Yeah right, gcode is well marketed garbage. While gcode has been fucking around with "tactical fuzz" and the world's least comfortable belt clips, Safariland has been pushing the envelope with injection molding, new locking mechanisms, and red-dot compatible retention holsters. Would literally never pick gcode for any owb carry method while safariland still exists.

Considered other brands but it appeared that the PD Carrier would be the best I can get

On that topic wasn't gorkaguy supposed to import some for his store? The fuck happened to that?

We need licenses for plates in my province, some do some don't. Under certain occupations, one of which I am trying to get into, I do not require a license for plates iirc. And there's a ceramic IV manufacturer I know about.

Of course but I am balancing that priority with the priority of making the rig a standalone line one piece of gear once I take it off the carrier. Also the Tactical Tailor pouch has a fucking top. Any steel plate weighing 5.5lbs is absolute shit.
Level IV ceramics vary in between 5.5lbs to 11lbs depending on size, cut, and cost. The high end Poly/Ceramic hybrid level IVs can be around 5.5lbs, but cost hundreds of dollars per plate. My ceramics are 7lbs per plate. Patriot Armor Defense has $300 10x12" pairs that they claim are 6lbs. I believe that they are 6lbs, but question the backface deformation.

Which one is "better"? For now it's going to be my first and only plate carrier. I intend to use it as my "minimalist" carrier (likely will wear an H-harness kit over it) since I plan on getting an LBT 6094 during this year's black friday sale as my "main" carrier.

As far as a belt mounted horizontal tear away IFAK its one of my favorites, theres some good options out there, but so far this does everything I need it to do well. Some other pouches out there are nice but are vertical, or dont have any way to mark them besides like a sharpie or paint. The build quality and thought that went into it is pretty good too. Its expensive for a pouch but they didnt skimp out. Good zipper, good buckle, good velcro.

they do take a TLR-1. the 17 or 34 models have a plastic block you can pop out that will then allow a threaded barrel. all models of 6354DO accept suppressor height sights.

Is it autistic to be putting together a thermal signature reducing parka?
>>
>>34595810
yes because it probably won't work cause heat will still escape from whatever openings it has
>>
>>34595831
I've looked at the really encompassing designs and worked back from that. I don't know why people think "if it's not 100% effective, it's 0% effective". Something providing overhead and most of torso cover is still a big step up in terms of concealing hotspots. Thermal operators are mostly still just people looking through the cameras and they are looking for big man-sized spots. A few small, dispersed hotpoints is a lot more likely to get overlooked.
>>
>>34595885
>Thermal operators are mostly still just people looking through the cameras and they are looking for big man-sized spots.
The thing is that anything human temp is going to automatically draw attn. from the operator, even if it's a few spots, since it's rare anything gets that hot unless it's a person or an animal. if there's any temp difference between the outside of your suit and the terrain you're going to have a visible outline and get spotted once the operator takes a closer look because they saw some small hot spots.

You have nods and need a laser?
>>
>>34599148
But I don't want or need an IR floodlight, and think that a large chunk of PEQ-15 price is the "operator tax". The Russiboo IR box is really stripped down, but as long as it gives me an IR laser, I don't care what it's missing.

The only worse thing is half the battery life, but at least it uses AA instead of harder to find 123 like the PEQ.
>>
>>34599192
Same anon who posted the cheap NODs above. I'm pricing the whole package, since if I get NODs it seems pointless without an IR box.

$2k for everything seems a lot easier for me than $5.5k if I bought TVNC PVS-14s and a PEQ-15.
>>
>>34599195
why do you not need a IR flood

also no the PEQ-15 is not just operator tax, it's actually a good design

https://tnvc.com/shop/ldi-otal-class-1-ir-laser/
>>
>>34599230
I've got a Surefire weaponlight that already has a IR mode, so that's covered.

I don't mind a pain in the ass zeroing, since I've only got to do it once really. If the Russibo box turns out to be decent, I can literally go back and buy enough to mount on all my rifles and individually zero.
>>
>>34599238
Ok, this is a good US substitute for the Russian IR box. Thanks much. The price is competitive enough that it works for me.

Hey you gearqueers, can anyone give me some info on kevlar vests?

1. How many layers of kevlar are in the typical IIA soft panel?

2. Is there some specific name or numeral designation for the kevlar used in soft armor? Like "Kevlar 123 blend" or something like that?

3. Does anyone have some good suppliers of surplus soft armor?

I have a stupid project that I think would be fun. I'd like to take a winter coat, remove most of the padding, and then put some soft armor in it's place as a stealthy way of wearing kevlar without attracting attention. I am trying to decided whether it would be cheaper and more practical to simply buy and chop up an old vest, or if I should buy kevlar fabric by the yard and make my own panels.
Not gonna lie, I got the idea after watching a movie where a character had a leather jacket with kevlar sewn underneath. I thought it was pretty neat.
>>
>>34600232
Oh btw I Googled the stuff I asked, but I got multiple different answers. I found one source claiming a IIIA vest had only 10 layers of kevlar, while another said it was 24. There's also a bunch of listings online for "ballistic kevlar" but I don't know what is bullshit and what isn't.

>>34601588
The whole point of cards is to stick them on the side of your gun like a sidesaddle for convenient reloads and then when it's empty you can replace it with a full one from your load carriage in seconds instead of having to switch to belt pouches or whatever.

Get a JPC 2.0 then. It's lightweight and SOCOM-approved, and modular enough that you can run it slick or weigh it down with a ton of gear as you like.
The 2.0 is compatible with AVS front flaps, so you'll have a head start when you decide to step up to a normal plate carrier.
>>
>>34604579
The 2.0 is a shitty AVS without the harness, anybody yhat bought into that dumb meme has serious brain damage. The JPC OG is far better.

>>
>>34604649
What are the major differences between the OG and the 2.0, besides the AVS front flap and zip-on back panel compatibility of the 2.0?
>>
>>34604741
Literally that's it. They upcharge by 100 dollars for 2 zippers and some velcro. Also the 2.0 can accept a proprietary QR system.
>>
>>34604795
$100 for extra modularity and QR doesn't seem that bad.
It's not like I'm buying plate carriers for a whole department or something.
>>
>>34604845
But see that's the base price. to get it to the normal JPC standard you need an extra 70 for a flap, so now it's 170 more. now of course you need a QR system which they don't give you, so that's an extra 30. But wait yo need to utilize those zippers so that's an extra 80-150 for a back panel. Even without the back panel, just to get a JPC base with QR it's an extra 200. There is literally no point.
>>
>>34604954
That's fair.
>>
>>34604954
>There is literally no point.
>hurrr stop lieking what i don't like

Literally what the fuck are you talking about? The JPC 2.0 comes with E-doff built in. Nobody is forcing you to use a backpanel, although many people want that capability. And most importantly, the 2.0's incorporation of AVS components means that you can easily adapt the vest configuration for different weapon calibers or mission profiles.

If all you've got to complain about is purchase price then I highly suggest you stop calling yourself "cryeguy" when "disgruntledpoorfaggot" is much more appropriate.
