Do you guys think I could cut up a receiver with a hack saw to turn it into a parts kit? I don't have a torch and it's stamped not milled.

looking to get a red dot for my 104FR. Was looking at the new primary arms 30mm red dot with lifetime warranty. Just trying to figure out which mount I want to go with.

http://www.opticsplanet.com/midwest-industries-ak-30mm-red-dot-sight-side-mount-mi-ak-rd.html
VS
RS 302 with a 30mm red dot ring/

The MI mount set up is about $40-$60 cheaper, but I have not had any experience with it. I do have experience with a couple of the RS mounts and know they are rock solid and work great. Any input is appreciated.

Yeah I'm not planning on scavenging parts but more if it's not an all-out every man for himself but there's still traders/shops with limited supplies of common parts. Not that I think it WILL be that way, just that it could.
So regarding those parts (spring, extractor, firing pin etc) will they be cross-compatible between stamped and milled/AKM vs AK47 vs AK74 etc, assuming same country of origin?
Thanks

I told a coworker that I'm thinking of selling an AR for AK money and today he asked me how much I was wanting for it. I had no clue. What the fuck are ARs even worth these days? It's a bcm upper on a spikes lower with a dd omega rail that I put about 1300 rounds through before I bought my first AK. Is it even worth selling these rifles right now?

That looks shockingly similar to my old AR build. You still probably won't get what you put into it, but $800-850 is probably fair, I'd think, given that BCM still sells their uppers for like $460 without BCG or rail.

The real problem is selling the virtues of the quality parts on anyone else, given that your average normie just goes "well I can buy a PSA or S&W for $500 or less" in regards to ARs these days.
>>
What's the best thing going on 5.45s right now?
Atlantic has pseudo-Tantals that seem pretty fun (I love how Tantals look) but for almost $900 I feel like I'm better off waiting for an Arsenal.

Can you build a krinkov kit onto a homemade receiver and have it be considered an AK pistol?

I want a krink but I don't want to have to do all the SBR shit.
If it's produced on a receiver that's never had a 16 inch barrel on it then it's not a rifle, correct?

I know a lot of mosin obrez fans build their own receivers to avoid the SBR nonsense.

Pretty much that.
>>
>>34534159
Where are you finding for that price?
>>
>>34534644

I will say x4 or a variable 4-6 psop. There calibrated for the round and works well. If you want American you will spend a lot to get a rail and then the optic itself.

Again if they broke down a American optic will be less hassle than a rommy one in warranty
>>
>>34535488
I'd like to do this with a Vepr 12 so I can have a "firearm" with a 12.5 inch barrel and a sig brace.
What exactly does it mean to turn into "scrap"? Like what would fit the definition of destroying the gun?
Could I just Half way cut it from the bottom?(so that the rails where the bot slides on arent cut and then weld it?

For a mosin receiver it's just cut in half that makes it scrap.
I've got no clue what the rules would be AK wise.

The rail is what is on the side of the receiver, large caliber veprs use a svd rail. You will need a mount that will fit a svd rail, they are different than ak rails but there are a few mounts that can fit onto both. Midwest only makes ak style mounts

from what i understand veprs use the latest "universal mount" that will accept both svd and ak style however anything bigger than the 24mm objective won't fit with the SVD plate, because its too low and will interfere with the rear sight. meaning if i want a bigger scope i would need to use an ak mount.

My kit build had some around the center support too, as mentioned last thread.

I think it's just anti-seize or similar that was used when pressing the rivets, which later seeped out during the finishing process. In my case, the finish was baked on, which probably caused it to come out of the holes.

Mine wouldn't go in past a certain point, nowhere near as deep as shown in the installation video. I essentially wasted the first pin trying to get it in because it started to crumple instead of continue downwards. I tried compressing one end as they suggested, didn't help AT ALL. I ended up just hammering the second pin in as far as I could until I saw the top start to deform, hit it a few more times and then filed about 3/4 of the pin off to make it work.

If I could do it again I'd probably find a way to make a surplus FCG work, but the arsenal trigger in my 107 was from the soft batch and it was starting to deform pretty badly.

Does anyone know anything about the ITM Arms 74's? I found a deal for me that seems pretty good. I've asked some people about it and they said they were okay but I'd like to get some other opinions.

I've used 4x24, 6x24, and 8x42 scopes over the years.
I'd NEVER buy an 8x42 again, they turn an already hefty rifle into a heavy pig. Maybe you don't care, but it drove me nuts because I don't usually shoot from a bench.

A friend offered me his Lancaster Arms milled Bulgarian parts kit AK74 for 600 dollars. I know the reputation associated with Lancaster, I know it's milled. I've shot it numerous times and never had an issue with it. Is 600 dollars a good price for both of us, he's a good friend in a bad spot that needs cash.

My WASR has the original trigger from before they switched to the tapco g2. It has a shit ton of travel before the trigger breaks. Is this normal for AK triggers or should I swap it for a Tapco G2 or the Geissele one or something else?
>>
>>34542708
>putting a Geissele in a fucking wasr
>>
>>34542717
the geissele ak triggers are only like 50 bucks. basically the same price as the tapco
>>
>>34542708
Buy some surplus triggers and play around with them. A fair amount of takeup is normal, but a clean break and small amount of overtravel is possible.
>AK triggers can be pretty OK

Race triggers are faggot in AKs
>>
>>34542747
I've got an alg trigger in my arsenal but it's got the long tail disconnector so I'm constantly checking the rivet for damage. How exactly do I make a surplus fcg work in a semi only rifle? What parts do I need to buy?
>>

Someone brought in a Lancaster 74 at the range i used to work at with horrible ejection problems. He sent it to them got it back and it was still fucked up.

Lancaster drilled the gas port to wide.
>>
>>34542788
Gas port is probably oversized or using 91 octane instead of e85, meaning that piston may get pushed back too hard, possibly launching the bolt/carrier back hard enough to damage the gun over time if extreme enough.

As a general rule you should avoid American AKs, the problem with the 63d is the barrel. Shity barrel that will need replacing in 1/8 the round count of a good barrel. For the price you could get something much better that will last long enough to be used by your grandkids. For that price you can find a WASR and for a little more you could find an arsenal, either one of those will outlive you.

If it didn't originate as a parts kit you can't turn it into one yourself. But you can always disassemble it, the receiver is the actual gun so just keep it around and use the other parts for whatever you want.
