What AK should I buy Chimps-sensei?
>>
>>34517432

Makes sense. But functionally it should be a fine rifle, correct?

My other option at this point is a WASR, and I'd rather no Y/I stamp than no dimples, and apparently the Polish guns have a much better fit and finish.

I'd go ahead and get a Polish parts kit, FB radom barrel, Childers receiver with all the fixin's and build yourself as exact a rifle you can. The WBP new parts kits are "meh" at best.

I was trying my hardest to find an out of focus/blurry pic of an AK by a lake, but no joy.
Can't believe we're at 350 already.
It's only been a year since I started the numbering.

I've got an Arsenal 107R coming in Thursday as well as a cncwarrior 14LH to M24 adapter to put on an arsenal 74 style brake on it.

I assume the slots are for the detent pin, but what holds the brake on besides the threads? I'm worried that the brake will slowly walk itself out or not time correctly to allow the ports to do their job?

Sorry if this picture is for ants.
>>
>>34518667
Where are you finding an SLR104-34? If it's the same price then I'd go with it since you can always get an Arsenal polymer stock later. The rear trunnion and pin are identical, both 4.5mm pins with the hinge/trunnion/stock mechanism function identical to the AKS-74.
>>
>>34518720
The detent's are big enough to still stop the brake. It's a pain in the ass set up tbqh though, the adapter will want to rotate on it's own from the brake, the only way to really solve this is to figure out which detent is the tightest on your rifle, then mark it, then weld your 24mm brake onto the adapter with the tightest and the detent of the brake lining up completely.
>>
>>34517474
Hey /akg/, I have decided that my first rifle will indeed be an AK variant. Congrats on convincing me the superiority of an AK compared to an AR. I am wondering if I should get a 7.62 (47) or a 5.45 (74). I understand 7.62 is much cheaper and easier to get, and I would like that heavy round in case I wish to go hunting, but is there a lot of difference in power with the 5.45? any help appreciated
>>
>>34518746
I'm confused. How will the adapter rotate if the detent pin is in the slot? Sounds like a real pain in the ass.

I was hoping it would be a simple screw on job, but then I realized the brake had nothing to stop it from coming loose.

Also how will the detent pin be big enough to stop the brake, but still allow the brake to pass over them to fit flush against the FSB?
>>
>>34518757

7.62 is best ak
>>
>>34518757
get 5.45 and kill the taliban
>>
So i've been obsessed with AK's lately and I was wondering if getting an n pap m92 pistol with the SB pistol brace and Krebs flash hider was worth it. I want an Sbr without the paperwork. Also can you fit a side mounted optics rail on them.
>>
>>34518757
I started on 5.45 and have 0 ragrets. But I also got into it for like 1/5th the price most people would have to. Would honestly recc just buying both but start on 7.62 unless you can find a cheap 104fr
>>
>>34518789
It will rotate because in order to put the brake on your have to push in the detent which makes the adapter want to move. The detent pin WILL stop the brake, the adapter will just want to move every time you push in the detent.

I also thought to put the brake on the adapter first but since it's left hand threads with a right threaded brake when I try to screw it on the brake will loosen up.

Those push buttons on the side folding stocks, how hard should they be? I picked up an sbr draco with one today and the button wouldnt go in, I didnt try very hard but I couldnt get it in with the amount of effort I figured would be necessary. It had a faux suppressor pinned to make it legal.

Also, do you think its ok to buy an AK with the intention of swapping out some parts to make it function like an AK? It had a buffer pad and when I took it off the bolt got stuck back so I figured it would need a need hold carrier and maybe a recoil spring to function properly. For $650 it seemed constructed well enough despite that. I'm pretty tired, so this might be a bad idea but it appeals to me right now.

>>
>>34520338
I think you made a horrible decision with that purchase.
>>
>>34520348

400 rounds , FTF and FTE with the mags that came with it but actual beretta mags run flawless.
>>
>>34520357
Still a horrible choice
>>
>>34520366

Why is that? It's a pistol , that's going to have a brace on it , same mags as my actual pistol , and something that can be fed cheaply that's reliable.
>>
>>34520386
Because no only is it ugly but it's worthless as anything but a plinker. It's barely even AK shaped and has proprietary everything.
>>
>>34520396

Most fun things are proprietary. It's worth being a HD gun and for my wife to use as her go to rifle until I can shell out for a better PCC or just tax stamp this thing.

It's reliable , takes common mags , built like a Russian dirty whore. It works fine and I don't see rifle parts breaking from pistol ammo any time soon. Also it is built on a AKM receiver , handgaurd is odd because it has to hold the mag adapter in place. Sure when I have enough time might be able to widdle a wood handuard as a time killer.

>>34520468
They are ugly , but as a PCC it runs great and it's compatible with my 92 so looks aside it works great. Also when I'm not working 60hr weeks I'm wanting to widdle a handgaurd to replace it , seems simple just a pain in the ass.
>>
>>34520449
You gotta be kidding me. The most important part of feed reliability is the consistent positioning of the magazine. This depends on the handguard?
>>

AK74 has two solid roll pins because the pressure held inside the muzzle brake will try and rip the FSB off. An AKM only has one solid crosspin that holds it on the barrel. Because it's not under any forces other than potential impacts.

The directions of the pin and the barrel are perpendicular. I don't know if there's a more appropriate term. I call them cross pins because the pins rest across the barrel.

Only one of the pins actually goes across the barrel. The other simply keeps the detent from coming out.

Only one of the pins actually intercepts the barrel.

AK74 and krink front sight bases require two pins because they're under much more force thanks to the muzzle device being attached directly to the FSB. I have heard of people actually launching FSBs like they're rifle grenades when test firing their AK74 build before pinning the FSB.

The gas block needs two solid pins because equal and opposite reactions. It's getting pushed forward as hard as the bolt carrier is getting pushed backwards which is pretty fucking hard.

Are vanilla AK sights hard to shoot with or do just really suck at shooting? I was told at 25 yards I should be putting holes through holes, but Im getting groupings 6 inches wide, at rest. Is there a chance my rifle is just broken?

>>34521835

>>
>>34521785
If I can hit my 13in targets at 400 yards with them pretty reliably, you just need to git gud.
Also, ammo selection, especially in 762x39, can make a pretty big impact on accuracy. I'll only touch golden tiger personally.
>>
>>34521785
Normally I would just say practice more but a 6 inch wide group at 25 yards is pretty damn bad. I'd say 90% of the time cases like these are caused by jerking the trigger. If you know what your sight alignment is supposed to look like then there shouldn't be much of a technique issue there. Just remember that for the most precision you should be focusing your eyeball on the front sight post. The rest is just alignment.

But it doesn't matter how long you spend aligning your sights if you fuck it all up by yanking the trigger. You have to make sure the sights stay aligned until the hammer has fallen. Otherwise you're just wasting your efforts.

Only other likely possibility I see is that there is something wrong with your gun, but for something to be that bad wrong, I'd imagine you'd be getting keyholes on your targets.
>>
>>34521848
This was the last of my ammo, a mix of golden tiger and red army standard.

>>34521849
Sounds like it's just my aim. i've taken the rifle apart enough times to feel like I'd know if something were that wrong
>>
>>34521871
I shouldmention that I was shooting at a small black dot I drew on the underside of a pizza box. Dot was pretty hard to see; still though that's aterrible grouping
>>
>>34521871
Ammo will not affect accuracy by any significant amount at 25 yards. If you've played call of duty at any point in your life for more than 15 minutes you should know what your sights are supposed to look like. The rest is just technique.
>>
>>34521871

Nice wood

AK triggers are generally pretty bad and take some discipline to use, try to work on some dry fire while focusing on keeping the sights aligned throughout the entire trigger pull, mix that with live fire. Also if you can't see the dot you drew then you're just shooting at nothing. I draw my dots about 1.5" with a sharpie and fill them in nice and dark.

I'm going to assume your issue is just your point of aim shifting slightly due to recoil. But that is assuming you have a basic understanding of how to pull a trigger and are not just jerking it every shot. Assuming the former, try holding your rifle down harder next time.

Just picked this up today. What are good places to buy ammo online?

Anyone have suggestions on how to keep a center support from rusting? I saw some reddish residue on mine that I don't think is rust since the gun is a brand-new build, but if there's something that people know works to prevent it from happening I'm all ears.
>>
>>34523164
Coat that bitch with grease.
>>
>>34523164
>center support
never even heard of that, what part is that/
>>
>>34523398
The center rivet right behind the magazine, bridging the two sides of the receiver.

I just asked my builder what he thought; he said to just keep it coated in CLP or preservative oils, which is exactly what I had just finished doing when he messaged me back. Hopefully, that's all there is to it.
>>
>>34523668
CLP is pretty magical shit desu
>>
>>34523668
I use ballistol on my AKs and the oil creeps into the rivet holes. I haven't applied any for a pretty long time and it still creeps out to the receiver, mineral oil is pretty stable

Do you have an Arsenal? I'm trying to decide what CLP to use on my AKs that won't ruin my Russian finish when I go to clean it. I've got Break-Free, Ballistol, and M-Pro 7. M-Pro is my go-to lube oil, but I've had better luck actually *cleaning* things with Ballistol than with the others.

Man I hate keymod so much. I only have the keymod because I got the AR pistol in a straight trade for a pretty well used Glock 30sf gen 3. Hated the Glock, will never buy one again.

Was planning on getting rid of the shitty 7.5" upper for a 10.5" anyway. So I'm gonna throw a cheap ass gas block on, sell it, and build a 10.5".

Yep, got these for MSW. Needed some mags I don't care about using. Paid $21.50/ea for 7 of them, including shipping. How much did you sell yours for?

I'm using a pot scraper with good success, I think I'll use a wire brush for the ribs on the front though.
>>
FFL asked me what my occupation was seemingly as part of the transfer, weird. Have any WA anons done a transfer lately?
>>
>>34526929
I sold 6 for $120 shipped so around the same you bought yours for. Had I sold them later or you been wanting some earlier I would have let you have them for $100 even

The plum is kinda ugly but they're still Russian great mags, they were my dedicated use and abuse mags for a couple of years. I only decided to get rid of them because I have tons of beater quality true blacks that I use instead because of my particular case of autism

That makes me feel a lot better. I was imagining you telling me that you sold them for like $12/ea and that I got raped. Now I know somebody is probably itching to tell me that I'm just a chump for not finding ribbed plum 45 rounders for $6 each. But these were already in the country and available for a fair price.

I have a few unsanitary Russian plums I'll take, and I want to pic up a ribbed plum 45 rounder because I see those inserted in rifles in the pics from Ukraine all the time. AKS-74 with a plum 45 rounder is primo Ukraine aesthetic. Just gotta find a good deal on a beat up 45 rounder.

Some of them have these interesting silver ink stamps

If only it took G3 mags like your PTR you could buy dozens of them for $2 each. I have no idea how expensive FAL mags are. Probably not that bad..?

I really want a plum 45 round mag but I want a super plum one like Daewoo's. The ones that are just kinda plum don't really interest me because they look close enough to black and I've already got some black ones

None of my sanitized mags had ink stamps that were legible like yours are, they were all smudgy and melty looking like they had been touched with paint thinner or something

Do you know the specific story behind these? Were they sanitized and then used in Bulgarian service or was it just to get them into the US or what? Seems like a lot of work to sand and paint mags when they've already got their own domestically made mags and could just use them as is without sanitizing them

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO SHOW ME THIS RIGHT NOW I NEED TO SAVE FOR AN AUG NOT AN R1 RIGHT NOW I DON'T NEED THIS DILEMMA IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW

That's a really fantastic Rhodie rifle, but tb100%qh I'd prefer a proper South African R1 as original as I can get without any Rhodie stuff because I'm more interested in South African military stuff than Rhodesian stuff. Both are really cool but at heart I'm a Boerboo and Afrikanerboo

I dunno if they were sanitized by Russia to disguise their origin or if they were sanitized by Bulgaria for the express purpose of importation into the US. The "made in Bulgaria" stickers (English alphabet) make me tend toward the latter. But that makes me wonder why they would even bother spraying these with primer before painting them.

>>34527295
