Imo .40 is a fine caliber and there's nothing wrong with it but it is an unnecessary one. It was a kneejerk reaction in the 80's when agents armed with .38 special +p revolvers were being outgunned by any criminal with a semi-auto handgun or a high cap semi auto rifle.
