What does it shoot? I've heard that some of the later models use 8mm Mauser as opposed to the m/88 ammo.
>>
>>34504347
Most 8mm loads are still considered too hot for a GEW.88 reveiver
>>
>>34504402
They were updated by the Turks, who took the receiver and modified them by adding removing some material to allow for the long spitzer round and allowed them to function with standard mauser stripper clips as apposed to the enbloc style ones.

AFAIK they also depended the rifling, which can be indicated by the Z and opened up the chamber which can be indicated by the dimple shown here, >>34504347, (could be the other way around. but I am positive that the S stands for Spitzer)
>>
>>34504428
Not SAAMI spec loads, which were made weaker with the 88 in mind from what I understand.
>>
>>34504323
Thats a reasonable deal. Your fine, cleaning rods alone can be found for sale @ 20 dollars by themselves.

SAAMI specs are for Gew 88 rifles that still have. 318 bored, so you can safely shoot .323 bullets out of them. If you have a .323 bore rifle (likely) you'll be fine with the vast majority of commercial loads and handload data. Just don't be an idiot.

Posted this in the last thread, but it died soon after soooo...

Just spotted one of these beauties at my LGS and I'd like more info/opinions. The side of the receiver was marked "etts continsouza mle-m16" and it's in 8mm lebel. They want ~$480 for it. Should I get or pass?
>>
>>34505087
It's a fair price these days, though not anything to brag about. If you want a Berthier I'd get it, but be aware clips aren't cheap and ammo is seasonal at best (unless you reload).

Dad just passed down his Vz24 and dont know much bout milsurp my question is what type of ammo can I use safely it's chamber in 8x57 and looking around for ammo there is alot to choose (7.92/jrs, and some other shit)but what do I buy
>>
>>34505280

from what i understand anything called 8mm mauser, 8x57 js, and 7.92x57mm is good to go

8x57 jr is a rimmed version that idk what rifles actually use it.

Anything labeled "8mm Mauser". "8x57IS", "8x57JS", "7.9x57mm", "7.92x57mm"; it's all the same shit to a .323" bored-rifle like a Vz.24.

Not anything with an "R" in it, because that's rimmed (e.g. "8x57mmJRS").

They're out of most primary channels now I think. You missed out by a couple months.

Mitchell's Mausers are primarily looked down on because they refinish the rifles, but the M48s might not be refinished since they mostly weren't issued to begin with.

Not knowing much about Mausers I picked up what I thought was an M48 for a good price.
Took it home and looked at it more and I guess its actually an M98/48. Is one any more valuable than the other? I paid $300 (in a gun unfriendly state) and I hope I didn't get screwed.

Also are there any manufacturers marks on the gun that wouldn't have been scrubbed away when the Yugos refurbished it? I'd like to know the original manufacturer and year.
>>
>>34510889
300 is fine for that you didn't get screwed. It would be easier if you posted pictures of the markings than having us guess at them

>It comes with a single clip and I do reload

PPU ammo are pretty correct, altough the load is a little hot for the true WW1 feel. If you reload try to use .327, .323 will do but you will lose a lot of accuracy.
Problem is, i think only Partizan is foing this caliber and it's FMJ only

Loving that cartouche, all I've got on mine is a rack number. Have you shot it yet? Because mine might be my favorite milsurp rifle, the bolt is super smooth and crisp.

Too bad mine is on standby: I've got to put in the new ejector box I got for it since the one it came with is toast. I'm probably going to do it on Friday since I've got time, I'll post some complete disassembly pictures in the next thread.

I have an M24/47 and an M48 that I STILL haven't gotten the Cosmoline off of.

And yes, I know it's a vz.24 bayonet.

You can understand the hesitation. I don't need feds breathing down my ass for a couple hundred bucks.

But yes I'll ship to CA.

Yugo Mausers shouldn't be over $400 unless they're special in some way (and they probably aren't special). M48s are post-war, mostly unused, M24/47s or /52cs are refurbs, if you can find an M24 that wasn't refurbed it's mildly special.

>>34517576

Not that guy, but local FFL had one last I checked for $900 here if you're interested. It's on consignment IIRC, so you can make an offer and see if they'll pass it on. You'll want to see if they ship first obviously.

Interested in their info? I'm going to bed soon, so if I don't respond tonight you might need to repost if we get a new thread.

They have both straight bolts and bent ones, which ones are better?
I'm sorry for so many questions, I really need to pick up a book and stop shitposting so much.
>>
>>34522838
Depends what you want. M48s are often pristine and in great condition as they're post war. The M24/47s are returns and less likely to be matching. Both are good guns but look for a bolt that matches the receiver as you'll get a better shooter. Real non-refurb M24s only have straight bolts I think. Straight vs curved is personal preference. As a lefty I love straight bolts but curved are good too. The Yugo M48s have two types of curved bolts, a wide curve and a tight curve style. Ultimately it comes down the price and condition of the rifle. Look for marching parts and a good stock.
>>
>>34522926
>Real non-refurb M24s only have straight bolts I think.
The Type-1 M24 "cavalry" carbine has a turned-down bolt of a unique shape. The M24 "Chetnik" carbine also has a turned-down bolt, and I think the "Sokol" carbine did too.
>>
Hey guys I had a real quick question since I'm not so well versed in misurp rifles. A local gun shop has an old mauser made in Berlin back in 1895 that are indicated by the stampings on the receiver. The main thing that caught my eye was that 7.62 was stamped on the reciever as well. Of course the counter worker knew nothing about it. Again I'm not all knowledgeable about the milsurp subject so excuse me if it's something blatantly obvious.
>>
>>34523220
1895 Chilean Mauser that was rechambered for 7.62 Nato. They aren't known as the most safe rechamberings so you might want to steer clear
>>
>>34523220
Most likely a 1895 Chilean Mauser that was rechambered back in the 50's for 7.62 NATO. Pictures?
