What gun to buy my gf?

She's said that she's kinda offput by living alone in a relatively large house, and that she'd like something for piece of mind.
She's thinking a pistol, I'm thinking a shotgun, but I also have an AK fetish.

Would it be stupid to get her a draco or something just because I love the aesthetic?

Hand her an AK and see if she can actually shoulder it with good form. Lots of girls are actually to weak to do this. An AK being front heavy doesn't really help. Also her living situation and the proximity of neighbors should influence your decision.

The FOV is small but not super duper small and it sits high but I've got a bigger chin so getting a chin weld for me isn't difficult at all, plus you get used to both of those so it isn't as big as an issue as you'd expect. Still though for the money I'd still recommend a PRO or MRO unless you're specifically wanting a Slav optic, then the obzor is cool but don't kid yourself and think it's the best

>>34496685
Okay real talk so no bully, we waited til we were married to do just about everything short of kissing. The night of our wedding I carried her through the door of what was my apartment and now our apartment all stereotypical like and embarrassing in hindsight. We were awkward virgins and that's how we wanted it to happen so we waited until we were married for everything, honestly it was the hardest thing I've ever done. We were young and dumb, highly doubt I'd be able to do it all over again that way if I had to do it today
>>
>>34496752
>Are you smaller than that ?
Nope, 5'8" but with bad posture that makes me appear shorter. Being the same height as most midwestern middle aged white women makes me want to kill myself tbqh
>>
>>34496834
if you're 5'8 and wanting to kill yourself it's not your height at fault, I'm 5'4 and live comfortably with my height knowing i'm a manlet. you can't complain about average. Only thing wrong with being as short as I am it just makes it hard to find girls either your height or shorter then you, cause I damn well know I wouldn't enjoy dating a girl taller then me and she wouldn't want a guy she looks down too. Still plenty of fish in the sea under 5'4.
>>
>>34496834
Fix your posture. I lost an inch due to bad posture but corrected it. It's uncomfortable at first but eventually it becomes the norm.
>>
>>34496930
5'10" is the male average. Around here your average white dude under 30 is like 5'11"+. Just because you're a turbo manlet and can rationalize it away doesn't mean my regular manlet-ness is something I can rationalize away.
>>
>>34496949
The problem is I look autistic as fuck with perfect posture.
>>
>>34496958
My father and grandfather were also short as hell around my age and they eventually outgrew it somehow. I'll probably end up 5'6-5'8 and be cool with it. But I guess everyones gotta have some sort of insecurity. Fuck my life would be miserable if I let my height get to me.
>>
>>34496976
Think about it this way, average Mexican-American guys you see on the street are like 5'4-5'5.
They've always got a thicc little cutie and 6 kids trailing after them.
>>
>>34496810
That's actually super cute. Honestly, my experience so far with the girl I'm currently dating has me convinced that mundane experiences are underrated. A big part of why it's working out so well for us so far is because we've been very upfront about what we're looking to get out of this, as awkward as it was to hash it out. I think movies and TV and shit have convinced people that you have to dance around actually discussing the "meta" of a relationship to the point where most of us feel pressured to do either the bare minimum of "hanging out" or expected to do these huge, opulent displays of affection to convince a girl you're serious.

>>34496785
Pfft, the Russian Army will be lucky to get the AK-12 at all. Lots of things pass field trials, not all of it makes it to general issue, and fewer still makes it there in any decent quantities.

see also: AN-94, AEK-971, T-50 PAK-FA (VVS is expected to buy a total of 12 at the moment because Sukhoi can't get India to sign the dotted line), etc.

The Russian military, whether it wants to admit it or not, is broke as fuck. I'd expect to see more widespread adoption of the AK-74M3 kits than anything else.
>>

>>
>>34496999
you're 100% right about that. I dated a mexican american in high school, she was great. non-shitty mexicans are some of the nicest people i've met.
>>
>>34496966
Most likely you feel autistic as fuck because you're uncomfortable, or you're not used to good posture so you seem awkward. Bad posture gives off major beta vibes. How many chads do you know with a slouch?
>>
>>34497013
They don't make the AK12 anymore. It got replaced by the AK400 project and they scrapped that
>>
>>34497054
Pretty sure the guy who asked about it was meaning the semi-auto civilian "AK-12" that was announced before the sanctions went into place.
>>
>>34497054
I don't understand why they keep coming up with all of these rifles. There's no way they can afford to replace the 74m and there's no reason too, rifle is fine. Guess it's just these russian companies that keep coming up with them and the military is like yeah, cool, but we have no money so no thanks.
>>
>>34496999
Also true. I'm a mutt but primarily Mexican-American and I top out at 5'7". The girl I'm dating is a petite Asian girl who's like 4'11", so it balances out.

>>34497013
If KC can't afford to produce it for a military contract, what makes you think they can afford to produce a cucked version for commercial export? It's an economy of scale thing.
>>
>>34496976

generally speaking most of the gun owners in the u.s don't give two shits about russian stuff and AKs in general. We're a minority, that's why you go to gun shows and won't see shit. Even Arsenal is choosing military contracts over us. (even if they sell out on everything they sell). The response you'd probably get is

As a general rule of thumb, AK guys grossly overestimate how much the general US market cares about AKs. I can guarantee you that if Molot and KC sanctions were lifted tomorrow, Century would still move more RAS47s and Dracos in a week than FIME will move Saigas in a month, simply because of the cost difference and the "cultural" value currently placed on just having "an AK-47" or "a Draco." Most people don't care where their AK comes from or how good it actually is because at the end of the day they're usually throwing $550 away to have a status symbol they'll shoot a couple of mags through once a year.

Honestly, the only reason any of us even thought we'd get factory RPK-74Ms was that FIME managed to bring in 300 .308 converted VEPRs and couldn't move them because nobody wanted them. There's enough demand in the *collector* AK market that 300 proper RPK-74Ms would sell out instantly, but a shipment the size you normally get with stuff like WASRs and Dracos would leave distributors with a stagnant product.

Fuck they're so fucking boring though. Everyone follows the same 3 fucking formulas it's so tiresome. Go to ARG and they're all copying each other. At least with AKs there's variety, even if it's not as refined or have as strong of an aftermarket as an AR.
>>
>>34497507
even without the giant aftermarket, it's still got a decent one and with the variation of how many countries made AKs it makes up for the aftermarket.

Oh my
>>
>>34497522
Yes, it definitely does have a good aftermarket, but my point was that everyone makes shit for the AR, but they're all copying the same 3 types of rifles. Clones (which is usually M4A1 Block I and IIs, some A1s and A4s), Recce type shit with your variable scopes, and then muh HD carbeen that's always an M-Lok/Keymod w/RDS and SureFire™ WML©.

I have a gucci as fuck AR. It's a great rifle, but there's no soul to it. I pick up my AK and take the safety off and it has that line down the side where the finish is scraped off and charge it with that fuck huge bolt carrier and it rings so loud when it takes a round home. I wish more people in the US would feel this way about guns, but everyone's so up their own ass about muh warrier culture that they've taken the soul out of shooting.

Fuck that turned into a blog post.
>>
>>34495977

>>
>>34497626
You're gonna need way more shit than you can afford/know how to use
>>
>>34497589
>Clones (which is usually M4A1 Block I and IIs, some A1s and A4s)
That shit bugs me so much. I've got a generic HD carbine right now and two stripped lower receivers. I want to build one up as a recce gun with a LPVO since I don't have anything that does that right now, and the other I want to turn into a funsies meme AR pistol.

I still want to have a proper clone AR though, but the even the clone AR community is so fucking boring. Like you said, everyone wants the early GWOT guns or muh service rifle or an A1. Very rarely do you see more interesting stuff like the XM177E2 or even just bog standard M16A2s, both of which are clones I'd want more than anything else because the Cold War was fucking rad.
>>
>>34497635

I did a Block II clone and fuck it did nothing for me. It was the same as everyone elses rifle because it's not a "clone" unless it has exactly what was in the listed package with no exceptions for a soldiers personal preferences. So I had the same EXPS, the same KAC sight, etc.

>XM177E2
Troy did one but they cucked it and charged dumb prices for it considering the overwhelming saturation of the market. Our NFA didn't help either because the moderator doesn't work. So even that's boring because the interesting bit about it is broken.

At the end of the day I just want a decent bare bones compact AWD/4WD extended cab pickup that isn't something that's either out of production (like a Chevy S10 or Ford Ranger) or something that, the only way to get what I want is to pay $35k+. Ideally I'd like to find something used, older model but not ancient, for under $25k, in a situation where I can get an extended car warranty, ideally without 100k+ miles of Paco Sanchez Rodriquez driving it into ground. This is the first vehicle I've bought myself and I really have no clue what I'm fucking doing. In HS I dicked around a bit but ended up just settling on what my parents found locally and gave them the money I had saved up, of course the radiator on that thing has gone twice, among other issues. I know this isn't even slightly related but I can't do shit/go back to university/get a decent job in this fucking small ass town so I need to take what money I've saved up and inherited and commit it to just buying a fucking reliable little shitbox pickup.

Buy a 13 ton shop press, a dremel, a beer for a friend with a drill press, and a tool steel bolt.

You can rig up a riveter from the shop press and the bolt.
The drill press buddy is self explanatory.
Now, go look up BFG movies on YouTube (this is Flandres YouTube account) and watch his build videos.
He uses the special snowflake tools, but you do NOT need them.

Also, buy a NO GO gauge and skip the Go gauge.
You can remove the firing pin and just use a live round of you're careful.

They're wanting to replace them because their current stock of AK-74M's is aging and wearing out, so much so that they're starting to go back to modernizing far older rifles the Soviet era. Now is as good a time as any to replace/update/tacticool up their service rifle as much as they can. All the modernization kits add a lot of weight, so a rifle built from the ground up to have a hinged railed dust cover and better selector controls helps save some of that weight will allowing them to add western style optics without relying on the side mount that gets in the way of folded stocks (With an optic).

A 4 prong or even a bulgy birdcage will hide flash just as well, without the added weight.

I mention my Bulgy parts kit because I want to make an AK-74 pistol to put the 4-piece on and not feel guilty about. Will a builder even build an AK-74 pistol?
>>
>>34499465
The weight is an issue, but for that amount of flash hiding, it might well be worth it depending on the situation.

A 74 pistol?
I mean, 7n6 is already banned, it's not like you'd being tempting fate.
Go for it.
>>
>>34499473
>I mean, 7n6 is already banned, it's not like you'd being tempting fate.
That's my exact thought. I'm curious why we don't see people having AK-74 pistols build, at all. I've never seen pics of one aside from that one Polish company that was going to import them (but not really).
>>
>>34499476
Because people didn't want to be the one to get it banned.
They are out there, I think people just won't post them for some hope that 7n6 might somehow come back.
>>
>>34499484
I'm 99% sure the ATF doesn't care if a home builder does it, I thin they're more concerned if a manufacturer makes them or an importer imports them.
>>
>>34499493
Yeah, but that won't convince builders, who are indeed "manufacturers", to be the guinea pig example.

Which one?
>>
>>34499729
What rifle and what are the 3 mags with the preowned?
Also how many round are claimed to be through the preowned?
>>
>>34499734
Saiga 223 sporter/unconverted. Rounds in the preowned are unknown. I can only assume the 3 magazines are 1 factory and 2 aftermarket - i didn't think to ask.
>>
>>34499754
Even if they're ((10))s, the unknown round count would make me at least somewhat hesitant.
Personally, I'd rather spend the extra 2 Benjamins and get a rifle I knew the round count on (in this case, effectively zero)
Because regardless, you're going to be spending some coin getting it converted, and getting extra mags.

The other major one will take 2-3 weeks to contact the guy you're buying from/selling to.
>>
>>34502610
the old ffl i went to did this often. they either: want to do all received in batches, busy, or lazy.
>>
>>34502610
My FFL did that shit too. Drove down "oh we didn't receive it". Call customer service. Sir we delivered it. It had signature confirmation. I go in the next day they and they give me that logging it in spiel.
>>
>>34502647
>The other major one will take 2-3 weeks

Jesus fuck.

>>34502661
The FFL I ship my AKs to is a little slower, sometimes a few hours from delivery though always the same day, but it's a pawn shop so they're frequently busy. They're also the cheapest in town and a 5 minute drive from my place so a few more hours won't kill me.
>>
>>34502874
What else do they "have to log"?
All they need is the serial number, make, model, and my information that I give them when I pick it up?

They're probably sitting around fingerfucking it desu.

>>

Chances are they could do it quickly but they're either preoccupied with some other bullshit or waiting for another carrier's delivery so they can knock it all out at once.

They're probably molesting your rifle though.

I'm guessing it was the waffle-mag variant of the rifle
>>
>>34503041
Yup. Honestly I'm getting the mags for $20 each right now so I wasn't making a huge deal about it. I have two more on the way from somewhere else and I already had two 42 rounders so I got to shoot it before I left. Free pmag with aug though. Can't complain.

They're what the rifle was originally designed to feed from. High quality, durable, fully translucent plastic mags. Magpul makes a gen 3 pattern AUG mag for a little under $20 as well.

There's cheaper Yugo kits out there but >Yugo

The canted sight on your SAR-2 won't be too bad as long as it zeroes for windage. My Maadi is kinda fucked too but it shoots where I am, so I don't care.

Neat, I might have to buy an SLR-104 when they come back stateside. I've got a few thousand rounds and growing worth of 5.45 but I know I'm just going to end up babying my '83 build, so I will probably eventually need a gun to just abuse in the same caliber.

You can get them for less than they sold for new if you don't mind waiting for a panic dumper and buying a used rifle.

I don't have Krink lust so much as I just like having things that are a bit different, and having a ton of 5.45 ammo and mags. Part of me wants to have a more "normal" AK-74 I can play with parts on and beat up a bit without feeling too bad about it, but on the other hand Krinks are cool as hell.

Who knows, maybe I'll end up with both some day. I bounce between projects a lot. For the moment I'm just focusing on getting stuff ready for when my Scorpion's Form 1 comes back and rounding out my handgun collection some.

>I bounce between projects a lot

I have stress dreams about the amount of different firearms-related things I want to spend money on at any given time.

I think I should just stick to ammo and mags for a while, maybe get everything equipped with a red dot and maybe a light.
>>
>>34504933
I'm thinking at least $200, it's gonna be a tight one and you'll have the pleasure of knowing it's only ever been you ;)

>>34504951
Matching Steyr StG-58 kit minus an unnumbered Steyr bolt and carrier built on an Imbel receiver with six mags. I really don't want to ship because I hate scrounging boxes for shipping rifles but locally nobody cares I guess
>>
>>34505001
>$200
Ok but that better include some heterosexual cuddling afterward

The anon I go to 2gun with, who's doing the AIMS kit on the 74uLLC receiver wants an FAL at some point. If it's not sold by then I bet you could sell it to him
>>
>>34505039
So far I've only listed it on armslist, so eventually it'll find its way onto the FAL Files. I'm intentionally asking a few hundred more ($1500) than I would ask online hoping someone will pay it locally or that I'd be talked down to what I'm wanting from it

I really do like it and I like FALs, I just don't shoot it ever anymore and could put that money toward something I actually really want and will shoot and thoroughly love. FALs have hit the same spot as milsurp for me, I really like them but just don't have an interest in collecting or even really shooting them anymore
>>
>>34500734
Philistine question, wouldn't it be easier for manufacturing reasons to make a roller locked AK for shitty manufacturers who can't into the AK's heilically cut lugs. Same AK gas system, just roller locked breech, simpler milling ops on good steel instead of casting the more expensive to mill curves at equal to lesser cost.
>>
>>34505128
FALFiles will take it quick. You gonna do an R1 eventually still?
>>
>>34505128
What milsurp do you have?
>>
>>34505204
I really want to but compared to others it's not high on the priority list and I don't know if I'll ever have the money for it after everything else I want

As close to matching as I can get of an R1, don't really care about condition as long as it functions and is matching, is the only FAL I'm really interested in getting my hands in and not keeping. Had I gone with what I wanted instead of what was available when I bought my StG I wouldn't be selling an FAL

I'm a little out of the loop with FAL prices, what's a fair price to ask for what I've got with six mags? I don't want to be too high or too low

>>34505250
Currently only my Garand, and a 1903 that was sporterized by my wife's great grandfather but that doesn't really count. At my peak I had around a dozen milsurp rifles, not a lot compared to other collectors but for me it was the biggest single area of collecting
>>
>>34505380
I'd start off at like 1500-1600 and then go down. If the ones that have gone through are any indication you'll probably get 1300, maybe 1400 cause of the mags
>>
>>34504968
I know the feeling. I need to get a light back on my AR and prepped for my Scorpion Evo, but I keep focusing on trying to get more 9mm to feed my Glock. It's a big reason I have less than 300 rounds of 7.62x39 and only 7 AKM mags - money that should go into my AKM stuff instead ends up being thrown at $.18/rd 9mm and cheap 5.45.

Meanwhile I'm trying to plan building a second AR, buying a 22/45 Tactical, finding a blues S&W Model 19 Combat Magnum, etc. It never ends. I really wish I could just be one of those guys who just buys a couple of guns and that's all he ever owns, because I feel like it'd vastly simplify my life.
