I'm wondering how one might make the Enola Gaye EG18X smoke grenades a little more durable and weather proof. Maybe an epoxy dip coating? Can anyone recommend anything?

Also level IV multi curve ceramics at 7lbs per plate, or level III+, M193, M855, M80, and mild steel core 7.62x39 rated multi curve ceramic/dyneema hybrid at 4lbs per plate?

Also what other carriers are out there like the Velocity Systems LWPC?

Front swift clips, side molle, and front velcro are a must. Bonus for rear molle, lightweight, and drag handle.

Also SKD tactical extended their sale for another day. Get the 20% while you can, even though they're bootlickers.

How could a set of ceramics be $300 more expensive than your steels when you can get a set of ceramics for less than $300? Did someone pay your $50 to take their jugular slicing (just kidding) AR500 plates? I wouldn't be surprised honestly.

Also go outside and take some new pictures of your gear so you don't have to use shitty reaction images.

Nice!

Where were you 7 months ago?

Look I've seen 20+ videos of AR550 steel stopping rounds that would decimate people. Most of the SPALDING was captured by the under coating. Ceramic may be better but it is far thicker and more expensive and only really has an edge if multiple rounds strike the same area and flay away the under coating.

I still stand by my purchase. It works and honest to god I don't expect to ever catch a bullet but if I do I'll be tickled fucking pink I'm alive. Not readying and rearing for 7 more.

Like 8lbs each? It is hard to tell since the weight is really negligible if put on the shoulders.

Shooters cut. They cover a great deal of the torso and leave some give for the arms.

It is maybe 1 1/4th inch thick. They are rather thing. Ofter going inside the PC it hardly matters but it was not THICC pancake size.

personally i would go with the special threat plates, if they stop M80 I'm not too worried about rifle threats past that because I live in an urban area where few people hunt and the primary threat is from basketball americans who don't generally commit criminal acts with .270 rem. I already know A2grip is just going to blindly say level IV without any discussion of threat analysis but whatever.

>Shootes cut
I asked what size... Whatever. Spartan Armor systems lists their AR550 single curve shooters cut 10x12"(the size) with buildup coat at 8lbs, 10oz per plate. That is $245.

Single curve 10x12" ceramics are out there for $300, and the patriot armor defense ones are 6lbs per plate, saving you 5.25lbs total, or another 2L or water with containers, or 5 full mags.

>>34458897
The IV are cheaper. I wonder if Polyethylene/Ceramic hybrid 3+ plates rated for both M193 and M855 will also stop M855A1. AFAIK most level IV stops M855A1 right?

>>34458898
The special threat plates are 42% lighter per plate, but are literally 43% more expensive.
I'm wondering if it stops M855A1.

He's right about the IIIA. If you're only concerned about handguns, you can save a TON of weight and have a far more concealable rig by sticking with IIIA. I think cheaper even, but I'm pretty ignorant to IIIA prices.

>Negligible weight differences
If we're talking the Armour wear offerings, the total weight difference is 6lbs. I am also being a bit autistic about it because my multi curve XL 11x14" ceramics were like 10lbs each.

>>34459132
weird, when thinking of shtf I think of it in a completely different way. If there was no medical care avilable and I wasnt moving large distances on foot I would want as much as armor as possible to reduce my chances of needing medical care in the first place. Bugging out and having to walk a long distance on foot is a different story though. Even then, I would still want a IIIA vest in that situation.
>>
>>34459171
Can't visualize myself traveling long distances on foot in a disaster situation.
>>
>>34459171
Except plates are just for protecting your vitals, and they are very heavy. Even the lightest fancy rifle plates are around 3-4lbs per plate. That is once again like 2-3L of water, enough to get your 10-15 miles if you're in good shape and know how to conserve while hiking. Armor is for acting in a group, when there is actual trained medical available. If you're bugging bugging, I'm thinking no armor at all.

>>34459185
Interesting you say that. Depends on what sort of disaster, and how long it has been since the advent, but staying off of roads and out of populated areas are pretty good considerations.

This is why my next carrier setup is going to be swift clip, so you can drop the armor and keep the mags.

Of course this is all just fantasy.

>hurr get level IV to stop relatively rare cartridges
>hurr don't bother with special threats innacity they're too rare
>not even knowing where i live but telling me what local crime looks like
Confiscated weapons are by and large the guns found on people's persons or in their vehicles. so of course there are less rifles seized when they mostly stay at home and the only way they're gonna get seized is if the cops serve you a warrant. As for firearms use in crime you have to consider that the most common types of violent crime will change in a situation where the police are unable to enforce the law effectively ala venezuela

>If you covered yourself in IIIA you could carry twice as much! Its firepower vs mobility, if your concern is protection and youre innaurban you are going to be taking shit at point blank range
again you don't know where i live, i can step outside and have a 800 meter line of fire across an arc of like 120 degrees. my point is that most people here don't own hunting rifles in calibers a special threat plate won't stop. there are long sight lines here cause muh urban sprawl

there has literally been so much shit talking in these threads because some people own plate carriers and don't think they will wear them in shtf because of the reasons stated and there are people think they will wear them.

both sides are talking about a hypothetical situation that is really unlikely and its fucking annoying that everyone has been so hostile. Its nice to see you guys talking about it like normal humans.
>>
>>34459239
The reason I think plates are a good idea for shtf is ideally, I wont be hiking and if I am like I said I can just ditch them. I would do anything possible to not have to leave the immediate area near my home because I have large amounts of food, water, ammo, medical supplies, tools, and other shit that I wouldnt have if I had to bug out. A few good real shtf examples im america are hurricane katrina and the LA riots, which each involved people in semi static positions defending their homes/neighborhoods. If im in a role like this why not wear plates at that point.

It is just a hobby. I think we can take it seriously, but also be measured about it.

>>34459300
SHTF is a very ambiguous term, but If you're bugging in a la Katrina or chimpouts then of course plates are a fantastic idea.

>>34459362
Those are solid, and SKD still has their 20% off coupon up. They are single curve, and the cut is a little bit much for my taste.

I am however leaning towards level IV now. I was considering Armour Wear's special threat III+ ceramic/poly plates that are rated for M855, M193, M80, and mild steel 7.62x39 at 4lbs per 10x12" plate, but considering that M855A1 is standard issue and might penetrate those plates I am having my doubts. Furthermore, M80A1 EPR (I assume the new standard issue 7.62x51) defeats Highcom's Ceramic/Poly hybrid plate that is 1.3lbs heavier than the Armour Wear hybrid plate, so obviously it will defeat the Armour Wear plates. The question is will M855A1 defeat the hybrid Armour Wear plates?

What do you guys think about putting a level IV ceramic in front and a level III+ special threat in the back? That combined with the mag weight in the front sure is going to fuck up the balance I guess.

Maybe I just save myself the money and go level IV front and back?

I was really excited to be saving 6lbs, but being able to defeat M855A1 seems like a reasonable requirement.

I feel like I'm turning into Armourus Maximus. I see why he was super into this stuff. It is fun.

Good morning sasquatch.

Looking for a plate carrier similar to the Velocity Systems lightweight plate carrier. Front vertical swift clips and velcro for panels is mandatory. So are side molle for side swift clips. Rear molle, drag handle, and lightweight are a plus. Any recommendations?

idk like $120-$250. He's a about 6", 200lbs of muscle. Nothing special, just want it to look decent, not fall apart, and hold plates and mags. A spot for velcro swag patches would be nice too, but not required.

Live in the Pacific NW, so anything that blends in there is nice. Multicam works, green/olive, fde is decent but not great.

You're in luck as I am a huge smoke grenade fag.
You have two easy options
-Electrical tape the body and a little bit under the cap to create a friction seal. Cheap, easy, wont wear as easily.
-Spray on plastidip. Keep the cap on and spray all over, this will create a seal over the cap that can be twisted off and broken for added security and waterproofness. Depending on how you store it it will wear off easily.
You could also combine the two, but it will add weight to them and to the size.
+Make you some pull tabs
+You can squeeze two into the USGI double m4 mag pouch easily.

>>
>>34463154
If you are an ultra-huge smoke grenade fag maybe you could persuade a smoke grenade manufacturer to sell G.I. style grenades without the fuses. The explosive in grenade fuses became a controlled item sometime after 9/11 and now requires an explosive handler license, but the grenade itself does not. Replacing the expended primer in a fuse from a training grenade is easy.

I was super close to getting the Armour Wear ceramic/polyethylene hybrid plates but alas I've joined you in the boat. In just a few years time M855A1 is probably going to be very plentiful. Level IV it is.

>Electrical tape
>Plastidip
Hmmm. I was thinking something far more hardcore: concrete garage floor two part epoxy coating. It'll add a good deal of hardness, rigidity, and durability to the cardboard canister, plus ensure weatherproofing. The trick is going to be applying it in such a way as to make it work with the caps.

I've got a Tactical Tailor Fight Light flash/smoke pouch coming. I'll let you know how it fits the EG18X.

>>34463891
>Water repellent/resistant

Damn dude you hit the nail right on the head. They're the new LAPG STS pants. $35. Tons of color options. Not goretex but mild water resistance. Durable, integrated knee pad pockets. I like my pair a lot. Decently breathable as well. I went on a 10 mile hike in them at 85 degrees F with the knee pads in and them tucked into my boots, literally the least breathable configuration.
Pants are in pic related. The picture you originally replied to are a different pair of LAPG pants. Would not recommend. Too cheap.
Cheers.

>>34464240
Why is your image so small? I want to see your sexy PF940C.
Camelback brand camelbacks are obviously the best

Bump for looking for plate carrier recommendations that are like the Velocity Systems LWPC. Needs front vertical swift clips, front velcro panel, side molle for the horizontal side swift clips, plus back molle and drag handle would be nice as well. Bonus if lightweight.

In for RMR arrives tomorrow, I still don't have a pistol to put it on, sold the Kahr CM9 today to fund plates, and G19 felt too small in my hands.

5.7 lbs claimed level IV ceramic/polyethylene hybrid plates for $85 per piece?

Buy one and test it out. I'm skeptical as shit. Highcom has the 3S9, a 5.3lb hybrid cermic/poly plate that is special threat rated III++
Stops M855A1, doesn't stop M80A1.

Maybe the extra 0.4lbs makes all the difference, but god damn those are cheap. Too good to be true rings free when you find a product that is less than a quarter of what reasonable established competition is selling for.

I just spent $285 for a pair of 7lb ceramic level IV plates.

Also just ordered a Velocity Systems lightweight plate carrier.

What is the consensus on integrated packs?

I built one with a molle 2 radio pack, an ALICE rig and some paracord.

Great hunting rig as you dont have to take your gear off and make a ton of movement

>don't have to fight off buddy's back
>pertenant gear can be easily put on back
>just as easily accessed
>aforementioned means a rig can be flat to the ground unlike double stack mags

The us army haversack in 1930 was the last great example and then militaries stopped using them.

Marine reserve in an MOS with cucked cutting scores and realitivly meh PT (also fuck LCPL seminar). Almost have 5 years tis. The funny part is some shit is way nicer than in the Marines, and some is way worse, and it seems completely random what. Like we get nice hard knuckle gloves in the Nat guard, but all I got in the Marines was a pair of glove liners and oversized leather gloves. But in the marines we got nice plate carriers instead of IOTVs.

>>34457220
We too have an Africa deployment coming up.

I like it so I can keep my canteen and random shit when I drop my flak. The lbv doesn't bother me, and it's not like it makes the IOTV any worse than it already is.

Do not do this. People underestimate how much a helmet shifts once it gets shot, that 1-2 inches of BFD will kill you when it goes rocketting back towards your skull because the helmet was designed to be cheap, not effective. People may shit on OCs but as LAPD swat proved, they can take a .44 point blank with minor deformation.

Here was an opscore that got shot from the too down as the officer in question was moving up a stairwell to aprehend a suspect. Protect your melon from melons, cheap shells = more weight and more BFD.

I just got a set of 10x12" Ceramic Level IVs weighing 7lbs each multi curve for $285 shipped from Armour Wear, but that was with a 15% off coupon. I think without the discount it was going to come out to $335?
Patriot Armor defense has single curve level IV ceramics that they claim are 6lbs each, $300 for the set.

$250 is going to be pretty hard. A while back US Palm had level IV ceramics for $125 per plate, single curve, but I think there was shipping also. Armour Wear a while back was clearing out their "carbon fiber" wrapped level IV ceramics for $250 for the set, but those are now long gone.

Extreme anecdotal bro science alert:

EMT buddy of mine doesnt like it at all. Had him put a proper cat correctly on my arm and then we compared my capillary refill after 30 seconds to the rats. While the rats ended up working it was less effective than the CAT.
>I like the idea of a tourniquet that can fit in my pocket.
SWAT-T is another choice. We ran a similar test with it and it proved to be effective we both felt that it would be kind of obnoxious to try to put on a SWAT-T if it was covered in blood.

From our totally legit testing;
CAT/SOF-D > SWAT-T > Rats > russian bel t> pants belt > nothing at all
>>

Do they even still use those officially? I'm sure they're still in circulation out there given that there's photos of guys in Syria issued the old Soviet WWII style canteens and pouches, but have they not officially replaced it with the recent modernization? You'd think they'd come up with a CAT knockoff or something given that they've only just recently gotten to the MOLLE-vest-over-slick-armor stage of development we were at a little over ten years ago (although admittedly their take on the FLC, the 6sh112, is comfier than the FLC).

You want to wear a lot of layers. Your outer layer doesn't need to be thick, but you want it to be wind and water proof. That said, any gortex hard shell jacket should do. For your inside layers, you'll want combinations of insulation and moisture wicking.

Not familiar with the First Spear PC you have but I know routing comms cables through the kangaroo pouch on 6094s was common.

Anyone have the OP template with pastebin links for the next thread? The old threads have fallen off the archive.
>>
>>34488650
Just remembered that the pastebin actually had a template in it. Unfortunately it's slightly out of date and IIRC doesn't include the newer IFAK guides some medfags wrote and something else.

Moisture wicking base layer; polypropylene undershirt/long underwear

Then fleece sweatshirt/pants

Then water/wind proof goretex pants/jacket

Remove fleece sweat pants or add another sweat shirt as necessary

Do NOT forget some good gloves + beanie and proper boots

To those who were talking about smoke grenades, what are some that LOOK like real military use smoke grenades? The Enola Gaye EG18X seems to preform well, but let's be honest it looks like a toy.
>>
>>34489893
>what are some that LOOK like real military use smoke grenades?
None of them. ATF bullied manufacturers into restricting them for fear of grenades
>>
>>34490206
Restricting something based on purely cosmetic features? That's ridiculous!
>>
>>34490250
The difference between a real smoke and the EG18x is that the EG18x uses what amounts to essentially some matches being pulled over a striker. True smoke grenades use a M201A1 fuze (or similar) with a striker and chemical burn delay. Since thy are threaded into the body the ATFs concern is that you will unthread them and use them as a primary igniter for some home-made grenades. Cartels have been reloading the fuzes and doing more or less that. So the ATF told manufacturers to stop selling live smokes/cs to random civilians or they would declare them destructive devices and the amount of red tape would shoot through the roof (department sales would also fall). Now they can be only purchased for department use on correct letterhead

Question for gear fags. When wearing a t-shirt does your sling burn into your neck after a few hours???
If yes what do you do to protect your neck? I'd wear a collared shirt but I live in the south and regardless it seems like the sweat will cause chafing and blisters.

Yeah, soft topper. I got it because I can fold it down and still load my dirt bike in the back of the truck. Then I can unload the dirt bike and sleep in the bed of the truck.

Made in Boulder and you can tell by the shitty deburring on the aluminum parts.

13 days works for me because I have a camping trip next weekend.

Why the fuck is woodland gear so overpriced?

>>
>>34490660
Enola Gaye makes some dedicated pouches but the large smokes themselves are just about the size of a beer bottle so a standard smoke pouch will probably work.

Do yourself a favor and see if you can find them locally to avoid the hazmat fees, maybe your local airshit store will have them.

>tfw no buyer's club membership
I don't have a buyer's club membership because if I do I spend all my money on milsurp.

The difference between woodland BDUs and that "shirt" is that the BDUs are made out of recycled milk jugs and burlap.
>>
>>34490700

Dude if you want some good outdoors/operating pants but are on a budget check out the LAPG STS pants. I've been pretty happy with mine. Unfortunately no camo, but they are decent pants for the money. Pic related

Congrats on the new truck. Maybe we can start making use of more elaborate barrier and target setups now. What trim? What options?

I've got a Tru-Spec combat shirt in woodland coming. We'll see if Tru-Spec is shit or not.

Fight Light stuff is fine. It is reasonably priced as well. The other stuff is outdated in form and function design, overbuilt with too heavy of a weight Cordura. It is still good to go stuff.
>>
>>34490941
I have some random Amazon tacticool pants. They are fine. Woodland BDU pants appeal to my milsurp fetish is all.

It's a 2017 SR5 automatic 4x4 V6, the only option is the nav/backup camera. They gave me $18,000 for the WRX, which I was surprised by saved me $1,500 in sales tax; I couldn't have sold the car outright for $19,500.
>>
>>34491013
>overbuilt with too heavy of a weight Cordura
Clearly not built well enough :^)
>>
serious question for burgers : why are you so obsessed with having the latest the greatest in gear? don't get me wrong, if you can afford crye g3's in whatever meme camo is the coolest this season then good for you, especially if it's proven and effective kit, but on the other hand guys that do actual spooky shit don't mind wearing chicoms and sleeveless BDUs, which clashes with this murrican idea of the ideal multicam-clad rogain'd sunglass wearing badass, the kind you see all these youtube instructors pushing.
it seems extra silly when i read about people complaining that woodland or non-modular vests are "outdated", as if the gucci expensive shit increases your effectiveness drastically.
>>
>>34491165
A lot of people like to spend that money chasing the last 10% effectiveness when it comes to firearms and gear.

That was the fight light pouch, and fuses burn quite hot. I wouldn't say a lit fuse inside of the pouch is part of the normal intended usage.

>>34491085
Not a bad trade in at all.

>>34491165
No one thinks that the newest and greatest gear increases effectiveness drastically, and furthermore most of us are well aware that the bottom line is that training is the primary thing that goes into one's "effectiveness". However good gear does lend itself to a certain degree of performance, and often it helps to motivate the weekend warriors of us to get out there and use it as a justification for having spent the money in the first place. There is no single reason to procure what we procure, but the primary factors are probably a reasonable combination of hobby/consumerism spending and honest belief in the superiority of some gear over others.
