But yeah for the Anon interested in a fluted barrel, if it the same weight as the other barrels you're considering then definitely go for it especially if you're trying to make a precision rifle as it more certainly will help with cooling.

If the barrel is both fluted and lighter, it might also be a good call depending on just how much lighter and on what sorts of rapid firing you may or may not be doing.

I'd like to do a 9mm AR pistol. Obviously barrel and BCG are required, but do you need a special upper receiver?

I'd most likely be using a standard milspec lower with a magwell conversion, but I'm not completely married to that setup if dedicated 9mm receiver sets are that much of an improvement.
