Ok /k/ Starting to build my first AR and so far I've gotten a stripped Lower, Charging Handle, and complete Upper Anderson Receivers, BCG from PSA. Already in the process of scoping out deals to build the lower with buffer tube but I'm not entirely sure which kind of hand guard to purchase. Looked into Geiselle and mag pul but wanted to know /k/'s opinion on which to get for a baby's first AR-15. Not really on a budget just bought these parts due to convenience and was told they are ok value.

Straight up, that's an Element clone. I have real and these one, aside from the switches these are great options for $60. Anything short of the newer LED models, these clones work just as well.

Thanks for the keen eye though. I like using the clone bodies as I file them slightly to fit my Troy Alpha rails without any mounting hardware. Keeps real close to the bore.

It seems like your terminology is off. A complete upper has a rail(hand guard) and barrel installed. An assembled upper is just a stripped upper with FA, dust cover, and that stuff.

mlok is the current favorite, as it was tested to be stronger than keymod and is lighter, sleeker than picatinny rails but with that you lose some durability over the former

if you have money to burn some of the more popular options are geissele, KAC URX4, DD MFR XS

I've got two triggerpullers unconvinced it's a fake yet, we're still confirming. Screws might be replacements, barrel nut is steel, and some odd mismatching in mfg dates between the upper/lower halves seem like something the chinks wouldn't do but happens in mfg.

If you've got any supplementary evidence, I'd surely appreciate it either way. Just don't want to call a fake one real, or a real one fake.

Gen 3 is obviously going to be better, its worth holding out for imo. For the price of most new gen 2 prices you can snag a lightly used gen 3 off arfcom (the wife figures out that hubby spent $3k on a gen 3 tube and makes him sell it). Also keep in mind the auxiliary costs associated with a NOD (helmet, laser, mounts, balance, ideally a suppressor) , they are great toys and really a force multiplier but you have to put some time and cash into making them work well

I just come home and toss them in the corner until they get tossed in the closet. I've only given my AR like 1 cleaning, the initial cleaning. I might wipe the bcg down with a cloth then reoil it but it's not like a really give a fuck about it. No loss of accuracy, still cycles fine.

And if you think that's bad, you should see some of my pistols. I don't clean my revolvers until I can't get rounds in the cylinder from all the crap built up.

Noob to AR modding here - So I got a 12 inch quad rail drop-in hand guard, but the stock hand guard is 6 inches (the front sight or end of the gas tube is 7 inches out from the upper). Is there a piece I can get that goes inside/ or around the barrel of the new hand guard that keeps the gas tube at 7 inches?

you need to replace your frontsightblock/gas block with a lowpro gasblock that fits under your new 12inch rail.

this is impossible without replacing the barrel
what you could do is lowpro gasblock and a fake dummy fsb in the front for the handguard cap like a mock dissapator. though it would be much easier to sell/return the dropin and buy free float rails.
2 gas blocks is going to be like 60 bucks then you need a drillpress to install it.

I really like the quality of my VTAC sling over my BFG slings that I've had. However, I really hate the slop of the VTAC and think the BFG slings are cleaner.

Also I don't care for their foliage or OD green. Get coyote brown or multicam if you wanna go snickers.
