My front barrel band on my VZ24 won't budge. What do /k/? I've already tried to lube it up and heat it up with a blow dryer. No success

Get that stock fixed
>>
While applying pressure to the capture spring (you do know there's a capture spring, right?) stick a flathead screwdriver in between the rear of the band and the nose of the stock. Twist back and forth carefully to inch the barrel band off until it can be removed by hand. Alternate from one side of the band to the other if concerned about damage to the stock or band finishes and it continues to be stubborn after breaking loose.
>>
>>34238033
I don't want to gouge the wood, the capture spring ( I assume this is the thing you press down on to take the front band off, normally being easy) seems to be depressed even when the hole is lined up with the nub. Ill give it a shot though
>>
>>34237558
Get a clamp and some padding, and clamp that forward band spring all the way down. Next you just have to do the brute work of hitting it with a punch and mallet.

Make sure the rifle isn't hot or humid, because the small amount of wood that the forward band contacts can be seized by the wood swelling onto it.

On my spic mauser, the spring lever things were so full of gunk that the only way I could depress them was to put a c-clamp on there. Maybe try that if that's the problem? I also did some other things that it hurts to remember. Had to get a little medieval.

Not him, but I actually like K98k sights, but no other Mauser sights. The K98k has a deeper notch and a narrower post, and I think it's a clear enough sight picture.

I like them better than my Mk III's sights, but my M91 Mosin or Type 99 are my favorites.
>>
>>34240063
fair point, I never knew if they were superior but i've always had an easier time with the sights of the mosin then the kar98k sights. I replaced the kar98 sights with a mojo sight so guess I just forgot about the shit sights.

That's a 20th series by Kokura Arsenal. Their very first series they made. Yours would have been made around late 1941.

It's early enough it would have been matched with an assembly number on certain smaller parts like the extractor.

I want to stab shit with the bayo but there were lots of people at the range and didn't want to look weird/wait for cold range again. Will definitely have some fun with it next time I'm innawoods though.

I did put the bayo back on in march when I was leaving and heard a fudd audibly 'whoa' behind me.

Is approx $450 a good price for a Sverige Mauser (it's really fucking long if that helps you pin down which model it is)? The stock isn't cracked, the inside looked clean af, bolt turned well and the wood looked fine and it didn't reek of cosmoline/feel sticky.

How bad are the costs for 6.5x55? I'm in no position to do reloading as I have no experience with it.

I asked this in the last thread before it died, but I'll ask again here. Anyone have a favorite load for 8mm Mauser? I've ordered a bunch of 198 grain FMJBT bullets, and now I need to decide on the powder.

I saw one vote for IMR4064 from /k/aptbilly in the last thread. Any particular reason? I'll admit to a fair amount of ignorance about why you would choose one powder over another. I understand different powders have different burn rates and pressure curves, but how do you determine which one would work best for your rifle?
>>

I only follow them because they may have reasonable milsurp again...someday. I got my Schmidt Rubin 1896/11 for 300, and that's all I've gotten from them.

I toy with the idea of rolling the dice on an M39 from them, but I already have a Finnish M1891, so motivation for another Mosin is pretty low.

>Any particular reason?
It's a powder I have for a lot of other milsurp loads. That's the biggest reason. 4895 or 3031 will work just fine too, though I'd have to look up load data for those powders. I don't shoot enough to test for peak performance, nor do I particularly care to achieve it. I just like plinking and so I develope my loads to be cheap and still reasonably accurate. Also I try to keep them on the lower ends of the pressure curve to extend brass life, again to keep costs down.

I think with the 198gr bullets you want to use a 46gr charge of 4064 will be pretty close to the WW2 military loading.

Where are you getting your load data? The only reference book I have is the Lee "Modern Reloading" book that came with my press. It lists 44.5 grains as the "Never Exceed" load for 4064 and a 200 grain bullet. But as I understand it, SAAMI specs (which I assume they're using) for 8mm are pretty anemic compared to the military specs (though I don't know exact numbers for the WWII loading).

I currently use 3031 in my .303 loads, so I'm interested to see if I could get extra use out of it for 8mm, even though 3031 seems to be a pretty dirty powder. It's not listed in my reference book for 8mm, though.

He had 4 or 5 milsurps and I ended up buying his m44 for $150 and a really bubbad krag for like $290 or somthing. I think i got a great deal on the m44, it was refinished but not really bubbad up and I think it looks good. 1945 izhevs and all matching with 70%ish blueing and bore was exelent. Moral of the story? its average or slightly less than average depending on condition. i see them from $350-700, condition is everything. noob buyers dont understand this and are the reason the market is fucked right now

i wouldnt recommend 6.5 if you dont reload and plan to shoot regularly. if you only take it out once or twice a year its not a big deal, your gunshops probably wont have it in stock and you will need to order it online, theres a handful of manufacturers, its not a very popular round in america

I have 3 different manuals (my favorite is Speer 14) and i also look online at various forums. Rarely will you find two loads the same between different sources, hence the advice of dropping a load by 10% on your first try being prudent. Buy a few reloading manuals and look around online. Then compare what you find and look for big discrepancies.

I think I did pretty good. It's got a shiny bore, zero pitting, all the bluing is intact, and the stock has basically zero dings/dents in it. The only issue is the bolt is an M24/47 bolt (straight bolt instead of curved), but it functions correctly in terms of headspace.

I'll take pictures of it later when I'm not busy. If I can find a stripped curved bolt, I guess I'll replace it.

The owner before my friend sporterized the rifle back in the 50's, however they made no modifications to the rifle, just replaced the stock with a sporter stock. I did some digging before I purchased. The only money that I have in the rifle right now is the stock. I'm not swimming in cash but I'm not a poorfag either. I want a dependable, great shooting rifle. The stock I ordered was a German production, Norwegian capture stock with all numbers on the stock matching. The one I linked on their site is considerably worse than the one I am getting. I live in an area where none of my local shops have spare parts, or stocks for surplus guns, and the closest gun show is 4+ hours away. Mexican Mausers being made in 1931 were M98-pattern Model 1910s. If it's an M93 dated 1931 it's probably Spanish. If the crest says "Fabrica de Armas Oviedo" with a crown it's Spanish.

>what's my next course of action?
If you decide to purchase it, you contact the seller and arrange a form of payment. Credit Card works best and is the most secure on your end. Then you find a Federal Firearms Licensee near you willing to do the transfer, and have them send the seller (via e-mail, fax, or snail mail) a signed copy of their FFL. They will be the shipping address for the seller, and you'll be the billing address. Make sure to have the seller send you and the FFL the shipping information so you can track the rifle en route. Once the rifle arrives at your FFL you will go there, complete ATF Form 4473, pay a fee to the FFL for using their services (shop around a bit to see what various people charge), and then you take possession of the rifle.

Classic Firearms. Main guy is Ben, he's a husky sort who seems to have some moderate breathing troubles when he does videos for them.

Not worth their time with NFA right now banning mailing direct. That and a contract of a one time shipment of a couple hundred thousand is way more sensible than dealing with thousands of FFLs.

Which is probably why Samco went under.

They went under because they had a terrible website that was also impossible to find. They were also the importer so they sold at more or less wholesale prices to everyone

Is it an M1892 carbine or the M16? Is it good for N balle ammo? Matching?

Usually Berthier carbines can be had for about $200-$300 depending. The ammo is hard as fuck to find and expensive when you do, so it coming with brass and dies are worth it if you reload. The clips are also about $5 each.

I would say if it is a matching gun 1892 carbine its a decent deal. Not a steal though.

It took me maybe a month from mailing it out to getting my license. Probably closer to 2-3 weeks actually.

$30 for three years and I get milsurps shipped to my door. I got a fuckin pallet of Mosins delivered. The money you save in FFL transfer fees is worth it alone.

I got a reply from the store that's selling the Mexican Mauser.
>Hello anon, thanks for inquiring on this Mexican 93. The gun in itself shows hard military use that can be seen in the dents and various other imperfections in the stock. This rifle has a matching bolt and receiver. It also does have what appears to be a fully matching stock. The rifling on this gun shows to be good and we can confirm that the rifle does indeed work as we have test fired it previously. The condition of the bore shows to be fair which can be accredited to it's military use.
What do you guys think?
>>
>>34251493
I've had decent luck with that ammo in my M48, had 1 or 2 cases that required some work to get the bolt open, otherwise it works just fine for me.
