I was looking online for ALICE packs and I found a site that sold them for $20. The only problem is that their "grade 3" meaning they've seen heavy use.

Hey lads I live near Dawson forest and deep within the forest there is a former air Force nuclear aircraft lab which is described as
"was the site of Lockheed's lab for investigating the feasibility of nuclear aircraft. The site was used for irradiating military equipment, as well as the forest to determine the effect of nuclear war, and its effects on wildlife. The area was closed in 1971 and acquired by the city of Atlanta for a second airport, but its topography was determined to be ill-suited for an airport. Documents explaining what went on at the site remain highly classified, and the entrance to the underground portion of the facility has been buried. The only objects left above ground were the concrete foundations on which the buildings and reactors were placed"

Basically a test side where they blasted radiation at the forest to see what happened

Today there are some remaining buildings and lots of underground tunnels which are blocked off but if u know where to look u can get inside. Some areas still have higher than normal radiation and there are several radiation detectors placed around the forest. There is some interesting local fokelore based around this place including two headed animals and stuff. The forest itself is pretty spooky and I'm friends with the local sheriff that has some interesting stories about the forest (lots of people disappearing and random bodies being found dumped there)

I've been in it twice but never took any pictures and am planning a return visit. Security around the area is pretty tight and there are lots of rangers that will gladly shoo you away so.im hesitant to go full stalker with a gas mask and gun in case i spook a ranger.

There are lots of concrete building foundations along side a few standing buildings. Pump house by the river and the reactor building itself along with some other random smaller buildings. There used to be a railroad that brought supplies in so u can occasionally find random tracks within the forest and there is an abandoned rail bridge as well.

Just buy the new one. I've had the same ALICE pack since my first year of highschool, that I used for books during the week and camping on the weekend. That was a long time ago, and the bag is still great now. I've since upgraded to a better hiking bag, but the ALICE bags will last you a lifetime, so spend the extra bucks for a good one.

Camo-wise? It's a really good choice, but newer stuff tends to be more saturated, which stands out in dusty abandoned areas. Used surplus usually has some fading to it which helps to blend in.

additionally I suggested the roof because its easy to jump down if need be and it's the cleanest part of the house. We weren't sure if the insulation was fiberglass or asbestos because the house was so old so inside of the house at any rate was a bad idea.

The only thing I can think of that isn't decently far south is the cook forest preserve lands where there's a few abandoned structures. Theres a nuclear reactor buried at redgate woods. The reason we wore gas masks is so we didn't inhale asbestos/fiberglass insulation and rat dropings particles. The place was covered in both and I don't want cancer and/or some weird disease.
