K31 Swiss or a cheap .308 like a Savage or something.

Do not get nugget that meme is dead. Nuggets used to be like 50 bucks and that's what made them nice but now you are paying like 200 plus for a garbage rifle. A K31 is a little more on the expensive side for "cheap" but the Swiss still use the ammo for the general purpose MG so you WILL be able to find ammo unlike most surplus rifles and the rifle is outstanding in terms of craftsmanship and accuracy even in terms to many modern day rifles and will absolutely spank and cheap bolt gun. The downside putting a scope on something like a surplus is going to be really hard compared to a cheap bolt gun. Pay more attention to caliber as opposed to what rifle. Like I said .308 is best all around in terms of bolt gun caliber, price, and ammo availability.

You are an Aussie so all that I said is subject to change. Maybe Aussies have a shit ton of cheap Enfields or something that we can't touch much like how Canadians have a shit ton of SKS floating around.

I see alot of these on youtube. Are they a bit too cheap and nasty? The money isnt a huge issue.
>>
>>34044295
Swedish mauser. I don't know the prices in AUS, but it's a great rifle, although a bit heavy (if you can get the m38 which is the lighter and shorter carbine version).

>>
>>34044312
Range shooting see this:
>>34044304

Consecutive shots increases barrel heat and accuracy suffers, thicker barrels combat this.
308 is probably the cheapest ammo since you can (most likely) get NATO surplus.
>>
>>34044320
The recoil wasnt overly bad for me. Wife wouldnt be able to shoot it though. Main problem was the noise desu. Was an extremely loud gun for some reason.
>>
>>34044295
Just get a mark III enfield. Should be cheap and easy enough to find in Australia
>>
>>34044315
Right off the bat you should not being looking for a bolt gun then if kids and wife are involved. Go with a .223 or 6.5 creedmoor. Going much smaller is circus entertainment tier for a bolt gun.

Get a ruger 10/22. Doesn't sound like much but it can do a number. Subsonic rounds with a makeshift suppressor and you won't hear a thing. Or at least that's what I'm told.

I'd ask if you handload, but probably not.

At any rate, I'd recommend .243, .270, .280, 7mm-08, .308 (very common suggestion, but I'm only suggesting it because ammo is everywhere and its relatively mild recoiling). .30TC. is a very nice cartridge as well, but can only be handloaded.

As for the rifle, if budget is between 3-600 dollars, go savage axis 2. If 6-900 go with a remington 700, if above 1000, get whatever feels best
>>
>>34044366
Forgot to mention, any of these calibers would be suited for ranges out too 1000m. Out of all of them, the 7mm cartridges (.280 and 7mm-08) would probably be best due to them not being as affected from wind or bullet drop, where as you'll have a tough time with .308 and any of the other 30 cals at that distance. Definitely still doable though.

Savage Axis or Ruger American

If you want a rifle that's really cheap to shoot, look at a Cz527
7.62x39mm Tula or Wolf steelcase is cheaper than ur mum.

>>34044296
The Nugget is really not very good for the prices it goes for these days. Ammo is cheap still (about $1/2rds), but the guns are just rough.

Unless you want it for collecting/history, there is precious little reason to get a Nugget today, you're much better of looking for something like an Austrian Steyr Mannlicher M95 or Yugoslavian M48 Mauser, they're infinitely more nice and can sometimes be cheaper to buy,
Or a Swiss K/31, but those have crept up in price. The ammo isn't dry though, since they make batches of 7.5x55mm every year.

So I want to get a Ruger American Ranch, and I want to eventually suppress it, but I don't know what caliber to get. It's between.

>5.56
-Already have an AR, so I have plenty of ammo
-Have a Nikon 223 scope already
-Ammo is cheap, and subsonic relatively available

>.300 memeout
-Designed to be suppressed
-Nikon scope could still be used, but ballistic chart necessary
-Ammo a little more expensive, but decently available in stores near me

I'd be shooting at a maximum 300-400 yards, most frequently 150-250 yards, and possibly using the rifle to hunt deer or boar. Is .300blk a better option for a suppressed rifle than 5.56? Both rifles cost the same.

Remington 700P. Got to shoot one of these last week and at 200 yards, it was almost a 1 hole group with hand loads in .308. I'm sure the .223 model would be just as accurate if you're looking for something with a little less oomph. That or the guy next to me was shooting a Savage model 12 5.56 heavy barrel and getting respectable groups at 200 as well.

DO NOT get a Remington 700. I bought one a year ago and it groups at - i shit you not - about 3 to 4 inches at FIFTY YARDS. Handed it to someone more experienced than me and it grouped at 2 to three inches at the same 50 yards. I really wanted to believe that the "Remington is trash" meme was just a meme, but it's the truth. The only thing you can trust from Remington is their ammunition and their shotguns. Nothing else they manufacture is worth your money or your time.

If you want quality for the same price, get a CZ or something.

I want a rifle like OP's criteria, but I want it to be a durable, wood stock rifle. I want a battle ready bolt action that I know I can flip around and clock a motherfucker with the stock without worrying about cracked polymer or things like that.

I had a nugget but gifted it to a friend cause it was rather inaccurate and cleaning out the bore after shooting spam can ammo all the time was a PITA. I loved its heft and durability though, would /k/ recommend a mauser? Or perhaps an enfield? Open to other suggestions as well.

>>34051993
I'm in the same boat. My research is leading me to believe they really aren't all that different performance wise and opinions are split over really minor trade offs. BUT if you reload your own ammo, the 30-06 case is larger and gives you more versatility. .308 might be more available as well, in both rifles and ammo at the store. I'm leaning .308 but I haven't picked a rifle yet. If I fall in love with something only chambered in 30-06 then so be it.
