Can /k/ ruck for 10 miles at a 15-minute-per-mile pace?

does /k/ even go /out/?
>>
>>33996887
No
>>
>>33996887
probably not now, but once snowshoed over 10 miles and 4500 feet elevation gain in fresh deep powder by myself w/full backpack...fuggin grueling.
>>
>>33996887

Was in the muhreenes so yes. Not gonna lie i let myself go but i can get back in shape quickly
>>
nope

i'm a recovering lard ass who's still busy shedding excess weight
>>
I can't walk 100 feet without assistance.
>>
>>33996887
Easily, with a 45lb dry ruck + 5 liters water.

15 minutes is chill, anon. If you're going hard it's more like a 13 minute pace.
>>
>>33996887
Not exactly, but i've done 10 in about 3hrs, just slightly over your par. 40lb pack, 3L of water, rifu, sidearm and ammo.

I am what would be considered a fat fuck., but I can go farther, just at a slower pace. I think the farthest i've gone inna day was about 30miles.
>>
>>33996887

Yes, easily, but to be fair my job is pretty much just rucking shit back and forth in a warehouse. I do about 12 miles a day moving about, 20k steps according to my phone app.

How much weight would you ruck with?

How can I get /fit/ if I have severe and permanent nerve damage? Most I do are upper-body exercises and the occasional pool therapy.
>>
>>33996887
not currently, but im working on it.

I ruck 2 miles at 15 minutes per mile pace. I'll probably stretch out to 4 next week, and by the end of the quarter, 16. then it'll be about adding weight.

Can do the endurance for sure.
Depending on the pack weight I'd probably be slower than 15 min. miles
>>
>>33997105
>>33997114

i've actually never been that fat but i know i'm not in shape enough to haul weight on my back for long periods of time

15 minutes/mile for 10 miles, 150 minutes, probably not on flat terrain, yes it would be tough depending how much you're carrying considering my regular cardio "exercise" is 30-60 minutes without weight
>>
no way. i chased my dog up the street the other day and was out of breath.

Nah, but I could probably do 3 miles in 20 minutes under duress and then want to collapse and die. I can run fast but my lungs suck.

I don't plan on going offensive in the coming civil war. Just going to give very temporary quarter (unless they want to camp on the land, then stay however long) to right leaning groups.

Everyone else gets dismantled, and maybe put in the icebox if things get bad enough.

Taboo? Its just kinda dumb desu. That shotgun that will only ever fill some tiny marginally worthwhile use could be swapped out with any number of far more important things like more ammo, more water, etc etc.
>>
At the I-LRRP school in Weingarten I was invited to join an instructor's march as a visitor. I'd retired some years previously from that kind of thing, but I was glad to take up the challenge and they were eager to have me set the pace as I was old. It was the height of summer and I promised them a nice jaunt down to the Bodensee for a few beers and maybe a bit of grilling.

I ragged them. I got really into it, against my better judgement, and took them for a 65km slog in full order. My legs nearly fell apart at the end. A Norwegian captain soiled himself. Fortunately no one jacked it and I think they had a sense of humour, as none of them beat the shit out of me afterward. Maybe they were too tired.
>>
>>33996887
i've done tons of ruck marches in the army so yes.
>>
15 minutes is easy money OP
>>
>>33996887
Actually, just started training for wild land firefighting this summer. Ran 6 miles yesterday in 70 mins, gonna start rucking with weight next week. I'm a 135 lb godamned twig though, so the strength building aspect will be the tough part.
>>
fit gun-owner here.

Im having a poolparty tomorrow. There will be girls.
>>
lol im a dumb faggot lemme just destroy my joints rq
>>
>>33998215
Don't bother training with weight. Train in your running shoes with no carried weight and start playing a sport, in addition to your gym and swim work. I'd recommend also skiing or cycling on the side, climate/location permitting.

Even if you know how to pack a bergen properly (you probably don't), you're still not doing yourself any favours. Get to half marathon fitness and you'll be fine when you need to carry it.

Boxers don't train by having street fights.
>>
>>33998263
now, i am not an expert, but that sounds like the worst advice i've ever heard.

Running a half marathon is not going to prepare you to hump a 30kg ruck and dig trenches for 14 hours a day.

>>33998215
Do not practice ruck runs before you're 100% confident in your ability to run and lift, especially at your weight.

If your support musculature isn't ready, it's extremely easy to mis-set a ruck and blow out your knees or lower back.

Ruck runs are not just running but harder. It's an entirely different beast, and one that can seriously set you back while you're waiting for that pulled muscle to heal, or stop you entirely with a torn meniscus.

Please be safe, /k/.
>>
>>33998263
I've read that wild land firefighters hike in with a lot of gear, so I figured it would be best to train that way. Heavy stuff packed on top, lighter on bottom. I've done some 30 mile hikes and walks with light packs. I hear you about swimming though. I can barely do it, I need to take lessons. What other sports do you recommend?
>>
>>33998228
Can I come?
>>
>>33998290
Thank you. I figure I won't run with my ruck and I'll start light at first. I'm not terribly weak, but you are dead on about joints; my right knee definitely hurts from yesterday's run.
>>
>>33998287
It'll give you the CV base you need. There really is no point in training with carried weight. It's a skill you build by not practicing it directly.

For a task such as carrying a large amount of weight over rough ground at a set pace, there's no sense in doing it unless you're already very fit. It's not something you do to reach fitness, it's something you can do if you have to when you are fit.

>>33998360
It depends on your climate and location. I'd get into a team sport and an individual one, at least.
>>
>>33998362
if you're in or near the 803 and can basically keep your spaghetti in, sure
>>
nope and nope. I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot that I'm still trying to fix. Can't carry any significant weight either because of scoliosis.
>>
>>33996887
Why would I want to ruck?

I'm not a fucking idiot enough to sign up to be infantry and it has zero use for civilians
>>
>>33998410

>>
>>33996887
We do this in basic and advanced training all the time in the idf.
Went 35 km (4 of these while carrying stretchers) with light weight (just gun and battle gear).
Soon doing 20 km ( 4 with stretchers) with 40% body mass load.
Did 3 km (1 with stretchers) in 24 minutes today, with 20kg in backpacks + battle gear.
Not fun at all.
>>
>>33996887
No, because I don't use imperial units.
I can ruck 20km at 12km/h on trails, however.
>>
Nope I run for 2.5 miles twice a week just for cardiovascular/ working calves.
I prefer weightlifting because
>girls be mirin
>picking up heavy shit comes in handy a lot more than running fast in my experience
>weightlifting is actually enjoyable - running just feels miserable

5x5:
Bench - 240
Squat - 305
Deadlift - 315
Overhead Press - 140 (145 on a good day) weak I know but it's hella hard for me
Bent over row - 155 to 160
>>
>>33997501
A sidearm is for when you can't properly carry a rifle. If you have a carbine, you're more likely to use the extra carbine ammunition than your pistol. If I'm caring about how I'm utilizing the weight I'm carrying, more ammunition is more likely to be useful than another weapon with a niche application.

However, if you have the skillset, carrying a light-ish bolt action in a magnum rifle chambering and a short carbine is likely worth the effort.

No, weekly rucks for years destroyed my knees.
>>
Not for 10 miles, I literally have no arches in my feet and the orthotics I wear can make my toes bleed after about 8 miles even in boots. It builds your legs up but there's always a hard limit before the joints just say "fuck you, you're stopping here." It also gives you tight hamstrings and pulls on your entire back so it gets progressively worse as I go with a real pack on. But I can ocean kayak for 6 hours without a break and I did a physical labor job for years so it's not a cardio problem.
So I go /out/ all the time but walking everywhere sucks.

i just try to stay as close as i can to my old standards in the military, but this is the internet s i dont care if you believe me
