Are front sight bases on ar-15's generally considered obsolete? I hardly see any in the pictures posted in the arg threads. I myself got rid of them for a low profile gas block with extended rail cuz I kept burning my hand by accidentally extending my arm too far.

I really love just standard USGI to be honest, pic related 2 out of 3, but sometimes memes must be taken.

The gooch Strike CHs will fit a milspec latch. They look neat but the anodizing may not be super tough. I played musical latches recently to find out what I liked most (protip: standard USGI). It just happens that Geissele, unlike all other CHs, makes them oversized so they seal gas better. And the latch is comfy to use. I just wished it wasn't so long and pointy, which is exactly what the Geissele ACH is--same thing, just shorter and blunter. Super Exciting.

I'm a total AR noob, and I'm looking to build a M16A1 clone. I found a site selling XM16E1 lowers (http://nodakspud.com/AR%20Lowers.htm) but I'm not really sure on how to go about milling out the lower receiver. Should I go to a gunsmith and have it milled there, or is it better to do it myself?
Also does anyone know a good person to get it anodized in the correct color?

Pinch, even with huge handles. I don't use my palm like a gorilla because 1: I don't want to take the anodizing off, 2: don't want to break it and 3: I want to control the handle, not rely on the recoil spring for tension. Plus, if you lock the bolt open using your palm on the charging handle, you now have to reposition your hand anyway to pinch the handle to return it forward. You can actually SMELL the aluminum burning when you use your palm briskly.

I only use the left side to lock the bolt open, if it's easier than repositioning my hand. It is handy sometimes when rehydrating at the drinks drawer in the fridge.
