I carry a GoalZero solar charger with phone cable, AAA (2),AA(2), 123(2), and 9v(1) batteries and charging adapters in my big pack. The charger also allows normal, non-rechargable batteries to be hooked in and used to charge a phone as well.

2nd question, how heavy is "normal" for a plate carrier setup?

almost done building mine, and by adding up the last pouch I'll be putting on (still in mail) It will be about 26-26.5ish pounds with side armor, a stuffed to shit IFAK, and a large water bottle.

That about par the course?

>2nd question, how heavy is "normal" for a plate carrier setup?
Some rough weights:

6.5-8lbs per rifle plate
2-3lbs per side plate
2-4lbs for an empty carrier
?????lbs for each pouch

Puts us at roughly 22lbs without any pouches so 26 isnt unheard of. If you need to carry specialized equipment then obviously that will also add weight
>>
>>33939838
I guess, can be different depending on hydration pouches, full mags, etc. But it should be around there. I dont run side plates so my vest is a bit lighter

Then why do people keep sperging that steel is heavier, when all LVL IIIs are in a similar weight range or lower?
Sure, the rating is lower, but that doesn't make the product "heavier". It's not like people are buying steel LVL IVs.

Because it's impossible to make man-portable lvl 4 steel. Simply doesn't exist.

You can't downplay that it has less ballistic protection while being heavier. That's just fucking retarded.

>>33941012
>why do people sperg out at a product that gets you less for more in a product that is meant to save your life
Would you rather have a TQ that is a quarter pound and know it will work or spend less for one that is half a pound and can also only be tightened to 75% of the other?

Yes I know TQ does not weight that much, just an example.
>>
>>33941012
I'm not going to give my usual anti steel shpeel, but weight is at the bottom of the list of "reasons not to buy steel". I can sum it up by saying, steel is much, much less efficient as body armor than ceramic.
>>
>>33940740
That was the list of shit in the pack tourniquets are on my rig.

And the prep pads are a gret antimicrobial. Doesnt hurt to give it a solid wipe so the shit wont get infected if your not currently getting shot at, or after the bleeding stops and your changing the dressing to just clean it up and act as a general antiseptic.

id say the weight(nothing) to benefit as an antiseptic alone is great.

Are there any good methods for attaching a chest rig like the SKD UCR to a plate carrier? They won't work with standard qasm kits like say a TAPS uses because the ones on the waist are opposite and the vertical buckles are too large.
>>
>>33941434
>not getting square cut
>>
>>33941046
My point exactly. People know LVL III(+)<LVL IV, but "steel being heavy" isn't much of an argument.

>>33941053
>while being heavier.
But it's not though. Entry level IV ceramics weigh as much if not more than lightweight higher end steel.

>>33941370
>weight is at the bottom of the list of "reasons not to buy steel"

Bulletproofme has ultralight steel with weight lower than entry level IV.

>comparing "entry-level" and "higher-end" is totally a valid comparison
It is when pointing out that focusing on weight only when criticizing steel is nonsensical, which is my point in the first place.

I'm not arguing that steel is a better option. I'm just saying "STEEL IS HEAVY" is a shit argument by itself.

Then why did you even start talking about weight? You are the first one in the thread to say anything about weight. There are people in this thread that will mention weight but that's not the consensus here. It's about spalling, energy and coverage.

You're talking about these steel plates that aren't real heavy, you are talking about the ones with a weird shape to lose that weight. They have shit coverage to shed that weight. If you are going to compare plate weights, no matter the quality, the factor to go by should size. Coverage should be the same.

Bought some of them today. I dont have a D3CRX infront of me but the "large" ones are the size of a coke can more or less and the small ones are about half that size. The small ones might fit in a pistol pouch if it has enough stretch because they are round and not the traditional square shape obviously.
>>
I have a pistol belt (in black) for a Beretta 92FS. It consists of the following.
>Black HSGI 1.5" Cobra belt
>Black Crye MRB
>5.11 Thumbdrive for Beretta 92
>Black Blue Force Micro Trauma Kit NOW
>Black Blue Force Ultralight Dump Pouch
>Black Blue Force Boo-boo Pouch with Leatherman and 9mm cleaning kit and stuff
>Two Black HSGI pistol TACOs (the LT model)
I have this for pistol shooting and just generally wearing around and feeling like a badass modern-day gunslinger. I have a Chicom that I use for carrying 6 AK mags, a Baofeng, a compass, a spare Baofeng battery, a small rifle cleaning kit, a single Israeli bandage, and 3 mags. It's got a custom map pocket sewn onto the back side of it with velcro closures and a yellow lining sewn in for high visibility. I keep maps and a notepad in a plastic bag there. I'm planning on sewing in some loops to have some chemlights sticking out the top of the map pouch for cool factor and ease of access. I'm not sure how well my pistol belt and chest rig integrate together. It feels blocky and too black. Should I just use the pistol belt for pistol shooting and recreation, or should I wear it with the chestrig as a means of carrying a sidearm, dump pouch, and IFAK? If shit really hit the fan and America turned into a Syrian-style clusterfuck, sidearms wouldn't be super useful. Should I just get a Blue Force micro trauma kit with belt loops, a dump pouch with belt loops, and a rifle pouch with a belt loop and wear them on my pants belt with the loaded Chicom for when I am using only a rifle? In that case I would use the IFAK/dump/rifle mag on a pants belt when I just use the rifle and keep the pistol belt in storage for recreational use and also because it would be able to integrate into a "system" (I hate that word...) with the loaded Chicom if I ever needed a sidearm. Does this make sense as like a well thought-out system or am I splitting hairs and overdoing it?
>>
>>33946240
TL;DR
I have these groups of kit.
>Chicom with custom map/notes pouch, carrying 6 rifle mags, Baofeng, spare Baofeng battery, compass, Izzy bandage, small rifle cleaning kit, maps/notepad
>pistol belt with holster, 2 spare mags, dump pouch, small utility pouch with Leatherman and pistol cleaning kit, and simple barebones IFAK (TQ/bandage/chest seals/etc.)
These are for the rifle and the pistol separately. The problem is that in most real life scenarios, a sidearm is not used. Therefore, the pistol belt is more for recreational use at the range and messing around with a pistol. Also for the possibility of around-the-house wear in the event of civil unrest in my neighborhood. Should I get a dump pouch, bare bones IFAK, and rifle mag pouch that can mount to my pants belt just in case I only want to use a rifle and don't want to wear the full on pistol belt?
>>
>>33946240
>>33946260
I wouldnt carry a cleaning kit on my belt but thats just me. That gear setup as a whole is probably going to be plenty enough. I would look into maybe a south african pattern 83 rig so you can gain some more space on the chest. I would run both the belt and the rig if it was me
>>
>>33946319
I was thinking I would have the rig as a definite for running rifle mags, but then the belts could be changed out. For when using just the rifle, I could have an IFAK/dump/rifle mag pouch on my pants belt, but when using the rifle and the pistol I could use the rig and the pistol belt. As so:
>Rifle + Pistol = chest rig and pistol belt
>Just Rifle = chest rig and IFAK/dump/rifle mag pouch on pants belt
>Just Pistol = just pistol belt

>I wouldn't carry a cleaning kit on my belt but that's just me
The pistol belt is primarily for recreation, so the cleaning kit on the belt isn't a full-on cleaning kit but more like a little plastic bag with a 9mm bore brush, mini oil bottle, patches and cord, and a disassembly tool. The rifle cleaning kit in one of my Chicom pockets is the same. I modelled the idea off of the small barebones cleaning kits issued to East German conscripts. Does this make sense, to have a semi-modular system? I don't have plates because I have a small frame and not very much muscle mass (femanon) and armor is very heavy and expensive.
>>
So on recommendation from an anon that graces this thread I am looking into buying a First Spear AAC for use on my next float. I'll make sure to give you guys the run down on my results with it afterwards. Still have not pulled the trigger just yet largely due to shipping considerations (being long term TAD to another unit makes this more complex than it needs to be by an measure). And if anyone can give a better recommendation for something, that is releasable, comes into coyote and will fit ESAPI front, back, and, side plates I am more than glad to hear about it.
>>
What are your guy's opinions on battle belts in addition to PC setups. Like, I run 3 mags on my issued PC, and then an older style 2 mag pouch on my belt for a total of 5 + 1 in the gun.

I'm running a heavily laden suspended battle belt as 1st line, and eventually a medium load carrier.

Battle belt is main IFAK, 4 rifle mags, 2 pistol mags, pistol, 2L of water in Nalgenes, dump pouch, and radio.

Carrier will be another 4 rifle mags (3 front, 1 left side), another TQ, maybe another pistol mag, maybe another 1L nalgene. It'll probably just be the rifle mags though honestly.

Since $100 is a lot of money for you to scrape up, I'll give you the standard /gq/ poorfag advice: Get a ChiCom or a used UCP FLC (and dye it flat color). These are your best value saver options.

Thanks guys, I've been fucking around with that cheap-ass chest rig for a while now, I guess at least I got a free water bladder and some MOLLE pouches out of it.

Looked around for the ChiCom and UCP stuff, but I gotta dip for work, but thank you for the suggestions anon. I live in Baltimore, this shit will be put to good use.

How are the pouches? Rig looked less than nice but even condor can make okay pouches.
>>
>>33947882
I can fit 2 30-round pmag's in each one comfortably, and they're stiff and solid. Honestly, I feel like they're better then the rig itself. The side pouches (Not for mags but for random shit) aren't as nice, but for reference they can comfortably carry a 1911 with 2 mags in them.

It's called a "pushup bra" for a reason
>>33947499
It is an Armour wear SPARC.
I figured that I would have to modify it in some way. The chest rig was an impulse purchase because of their recent sale. I don't have to adjust the straps to wear it over my plate carrier, so I can switch back and forth between over my armor and standalone pretty easily. But then I lose out on the quick release feature of the plate carrier, which would suck if I manage to fall in the deep end of the pool while I am tactically clearing my condo's cabana.

I've witnessed some high intensity spergouts about this in reference to the light setups in Blackhawk Down. Personally I suspected that any issue it caused would be extremely small, but I've never seen actual data about it either way.

I know FSB rifles are generally less accuarate (all other things being equal) than low profile, free float rifles, but I was just checking if somehow 6oz of light strapped to it was really an issue.

Yeah, sounds about right.
If it worked for them it will work for you.
Obvious but make sure the light you are using is high quality though. I had a light pass the muzzle on my dissy and it broke after enough daka though you might not even run it out that far.

Had a strike hard chest rig, ended up selling it to someone here because i honestly didn't like it very much. Didn't stay snug, bungees are gay imo, and it literally only works well with 47 mags (which is what it was designed for, but still)
In terms of battle belts, keep it small, tyr gun fighter, ronin senshi, eagle industries make one I believe

You hit the nail on the head. For me it's because I like wearing my hydration system hiking and so it's a different piece of kit entirely instead of being wired into the chest rig. This only matters because the two sets of straps don't sit directly on top of each other which I find to be marginally more /comfy/. Artist of the year BTW.

The jacket in that photo is an ATOM SV LEAF not an alpha jacket.

The alpha jacket is a gortex softshell so its designed to be layered like a PCU. While it provides water resistance and a little wind resistance you should probably have insulation under it.

I kind of want some tiger stripe BDUs just for fun. Amazon has two brands, Rothco and Ropper. I know Rothco isn't great but I've never heard of Propper before. Anyone have any experience with them? Which brand is the better buy?

Additionally, Propper has both "tiger stripe" and "asian tiger stripe" patterns. They look pretty similar to me, does anyone here know the exact differences between them?

Seeing Russians in Syria is bizarre. Their line units remind me of 2003 US line troops, while their special units look like proper 2017 US Special Operations guys.

I'm wondering if they continue to operate in the desert if their line units will start using minimalist plate carriers, modernized boots, more optics on rifles, and ditch the cloth and dropleg look in a lot of their supplimental gear.

And for god's sake get a desert camo that isn't solid colored pink.

Any idea what circuitry the Howard Leights are using to shut off the external stereo microphone inputs when the Baofeng is plugged into the 1/8th jack? Simple grounding loop?

I wonder if you could make it switchable so that you can switch in between Baofeng and external stereo mics.

Even better would be to wire the 1/8th jack into the Howard Leights preamplified signal, but hopefully not mess with the perceived output impedance of the microphones...

My howard leights have a nasty habit of squealing and buzzing. I might fuck with them.

Call of Duty: Suburban Warfare.

Next up on rifle will be a surefire m300 with a switch.
3x magnifier w/ larue mount.
Probably swapping out to a b5 sopmod b/c the gun is already getting nose heavy (though it will be a hair over 7.5 lbs with all that and a full mag in it, so that's nice .
Will more than likely grab a l.a.w. http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/stock-parts/stock-hardware/adapter/ar-15-m16-gen3-m-folding-stock-adapter-prod71553.aspx
and a b.a.d. lever

just 1200$ to go :(

Need to stock up on more ammo (only have around 400 rounds of Winchester Ranger 556 and 223. Need more but it's expensive as hell. Got 800 rounds of pmc trash.

Plate carrier needs lolplates. Having a bit of an issue deciding. Probably going with iii+ ceramics from bulletproofme, but I want this to be a truck gun/rig and I'm in the South and am hesitant to leave ceramic plates in a car during a Southern summer...
