Its just there because it looks futuristic, its a stylistic choice. No money changed hands, since Hollywood would never outright support a gun company outside of obliquely glorifying the use of firearms.

Gonna get a corvus defenso case deflector and a paint job, but I just snagged one with the short rail for 1330 shipped.
Has the 16 inch barrel, heard it points better and the 3x I had had the 20 inch barrel and I didn't like it, too long and heavy.
>>33914036

Based on what? Its manufacturer has only ever produced licenses copies, yet still managed to fuck that up on a number of occasions. Id wait until the reviews were in on Lithgow/Thales OCdonotsteel version of the Aug before making judgment either way.

>>33916396
Not really. The Bongs used the Brown Bess for over a century when small arms were at a plateau. The Krag was introduced during a period of rapid development in small arms. That has pretty much completely settled right now and we're at another plateau.
>>33916394
That was one of the best episodes.
>>33916440
valid point. I forgot we are in a plateau on small arms development.
>>33916459
Basically it's all about the law of diminishing returns. A technology is fully mature when it works perfectly well, and any improvement in performance is minimal and comes at vastly increased cost. The M4 does everything the Army needs it to do, and while there are guns that are slightly better in certain ways, they're not better enough to justify how much more expensive they are. I suspect the M16/M4 family is going to be the Brown Bess of the 21st Century. Until we find a way to scale down power sources enough that gauss or railguns will be practical at least.

>>33916359
That makes a bit more sense. iirc in Prometheus the weapons the security personel had were more space movieish.
>>33916660
I refuse to believe anything /a/ says until I see it for myself. It's like listening to advice from audiophiles on what speakers to buy. Don't.
Still I'm cautiously optimistic. Most of the staff looks like returning members of the original or TSR team and the original author is heavily involved. Only thing that sticks out to me is that the small arms designer seems like a weird choice. I don't typically think of Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid when I think of good small arms design in chink cartoons.
>>33916684
And a lot of people complained that it wasn't gritty enough. Ridley Scott seems willing to listen and learn from complaints about Prometheus, thank God.

I'm assuming it will be good. As you said, the staff is back.
>I don't typically think of Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid when I think of good small arms design in chink cartoons.
I didn't even know they are bringing on a designer specifically for small arms. Maybe with nothing else in their portfolio they'll come up with decent stuff, in spite of past projects.
>>33913895
>Let's just appropriate popular terms to different boards!
You are the problem
>>33916396
I would bet they just picked it because it's sci fi looking rather than to imply we'd still be using them- and because it can be acquired from Australian and New Zealand prop armorers, where the movie was filmed.
Even assuming that it represents itself, I don't find the notion that modern-day small arms would be in use somewhere- what I question is that we'd send people to another planet with them. They'd probably have something more like a year 2100 interpretation of a combination survival rifle than a not-especially-successful bullpup from the 1980s- that you'd probably find in the hands of third world militias or tucked in the backs of lockers in reserve armories.
>>33917079
The specific model, I believe, is a Thales F90 which is the new Australian version of the AUG. It's got some interesting improvements, and considering Australia's prominent position in the south east, I wouldn't be surprised if the Yutani part of Weyland-Yutani acquired some.

>>33916515
the most likely improvement will be in propellants and ammunition rather than wholesale replacement of existing firearms
i.e. cost effective colder burning propellants that make caseless ammo more viable or new ammunition designs that maximize chamber pressure using less space, something like that

Fuck that. 4 was shit, but 3 was a fitting end to the main trilogy and is only disliked because "muh hicks, muh newt".
On top of that, Blomkamp is a hack that only had one good film in him and is apparently incapable of deviating from his dusty Aaron beck look.

No. Fuck Alien 3. Even worse than killing major characters off-screen (presumably as a big petty "fuck you" to Cameron for changing the genre too much, and the audience for liking it), it was what no horror/thriller move should ever be: boring. I gave a shit about the characters in Alien and Aliens. I couldn't care less about the idiots in Alien 3.

Nah, only for a wee while, its not big anymore. Having advisors was rare as fuck prior to BHD making it popular, but then over the years people came to realize that having advisors means having to take into account their advise, which tend to infringe on creative vision for reasons that at the end of the day most directors dont care about. Take TWD for example, which had an advisor for the first season but the guy had an uphill battle the whole time and was fired before the second season.

Pick up a history book nigger. We had caseless ammo hundreds of years ago and the Prussians issued that shit as standard. Caseless is the past, not future. Cased telescoping (CT) is the way forward. Brits are deploying it now with the French on armor. Everyone is just waiting to see if America jumps on LSAT.
>>33921723
>Pick up a history book nigger. We had caseless ammo hundreds of years ago and the Prussians issued that shit as standard.
Paper cartridges are not the same as caseless ammunition. Technically it lacks a metallic or polymer case, but when people say caseless ammo they mean solid propellant telescoped ammunition. I know it seems fun to be deliberately obtuse so you seem smarter than everyone else, but really it just makes you look more stupid.
>Cased telescoping (CT) is the way forward.
Exactly what I said. Well, I specified polymer, but obviously referring to the LSAT.

That with an external casing to make it look more 70s future tech would be amazing.
That's the problem these new movies have. You can't do a sequel and use current stuff. It looks too new to be 'old' by the story's timeline and doesn't attempt to look 'modern' by the movie's own logic.
That's why the hyper futuristic tech shit in Prometheus looked retarded compared to the bulky space suits they used in Alien and why the guns didn't look great either.
At the point in time that Prometheus occured? You'd assume that the tech they'd have in Alien would be brand new and cutting edge. Having a larger version of the Nostromo would be a better 'representation' of the in universe stuff.
It's why Alien: Isolation was so good because it looked like it was actually from the same universe. All the tech looked like 70s future tech and the people looked like they were normal guys too.
