I'm really wanting to take a trip to Minsk sometime in the next few years, and it got me thinking what kind of AK stuff is Belarus still using? I've always assumed they're still using old AK74s they've had left over from the USSR but I'm not 100% sure, and I'm also curious if they have any cool AK stuff that is strictly Belarusian. I've never really looked into any of this and now I'm curious.

The early 74M stocks are fairly scarce compared to other 5.5mm folders but in the last couple years have suddenly become available as take-offs from refurbished 74Ms are showing up basically as surplus. A truly rare stock would be one like yours except in mint condition. I think I have two like yours, one with a regular hinge and one with a screwed on hinge. The ones with the screwed on hinges are more rare.

Yours is a takeoff set obviously, I think from my old research it's probably around 1994 or so.
>>
>>33836076
To the uninformed this probably looks like a salt and pepper shaker collection. or possibly a flask collection.
Now i want to use mine as shakers and flasks.
I really like those duracoated square ones at the bottom.

>asbestos
A lot of countries still use asbestos and lead and other shit
Vodka cleans all, besides the cork seals are dryed out on most oil bottles.
I wouldn't trust the seal on them, or the metal, or my cleaning ability.
I would like to do something with the handful of bottles I got.
I guess I could just use them as intended as long as they don't leak.
Can't be worse than those small plastic bottles that always leak or bust.

>>
>>33838744
If you find a kit, it should have the flash hider. Actually, any given RPK-74 kit in the US, except for gray area deact kits, should already have a barrel. The ORF kits were imported before the machine gun barrel ban, and those are the only legitimate RPK-74 kits in the US of any quantity.

I bought mine in hopes of doing an RPK-74M conversion out of a Vepr of some sort.

Veprs are RPKs, so they're thicker and heavier, while the Saigas are AKs. However, I've heard that Veprs are less prone to jamming and malfunctions than the Saiga. Also, Veprs are still being imported, while saigas are not.

I should've messaged you but it wouldn't have made a difference actually, they ran out only a few minutes after I got mine. Makes me scared that they might have actually oversold them and they don't actually have a barrel for me and they'll have to refund it. Sorry
>>
>>33840246
Kvar continues to insist that these are "preban" barrels, but I don't see why these barrels would be banned for import, the only banned barrels I know of are barrels that were previously attached to machine guns.

This isn't the first time they've made this assertion and I'm not sure what they mean by it. It seems to me like they could import as many of these barrels as they please.
>>
>>33840246
Yea, I'm tied up in my house now so the polymer slab I just got will be the last thing I buy for a while that's not ammo. I'm sure more barrels will he available in the future
>>
>>33840315
It's just to get people to panic buy. If they had a steady supply of it all they wouldn't make as much money than if they mysteriously """find""" some """old""" barrels and had a bunch of people rush to buy one or four because they're preban and once they're gone they're gone. Having a steady supply of barrels in stock is 100% a thing they can do but they've got to play it off like they're actually rare barrels so that they sell super easily instead of just having them available all the time for when people just want one whenever.

tl;dr kvar gay

Paging Vepr Anon

I think I remember you posting a picture of the Vepr-1V and Vepr-12 trunnions side by side, and they were not the same, and the stocks were not interchangeable.

Please confirm or deny if you see this.

Goodbye for now.

I'm in between work and I need to save money, but nearly ever day I see shit in here that I feel like I have to have, like those fucking barrels. It was all I could do to resist buying a shitload of them.

So I'm going to stop coming to /akg/ and pretty much /k/ altogether until I get some income coming in.

I know I'm anon so none of you know who I am, but I post here a lot.

I know I won't be missed, but I'm saying goodbye because in a way you guys are like online friends.

The listing on K-var has been updated to describe these barrels as "From Russia."

According to KVAR on TAKF they were labeled Bulgarian by mistake. Dunno how truthful that is. It may be that the barrel blanks were made in Russia and turned down and finished in Bulgaria.

My order still says "queued," I'll be pissed if they don't actually have enough to fulfill my order

Honestly with selling the CR I'll probably just find a used SGL21 and go from there, however inefficient it is. It seems like the 94s have settled into the hands of collectors at this point.

What can ya do, by the time you get a couple hundred rounds through it it's a losing game already. So we lose $500-700 in an inefficient conversion and autistic parts, if you enjoy the rifle for a few years minimum that's cheap entertainment.
>>

I already bit the bullet and have a ribbed 103 mag as well as a polymer slab. I'm taking to someone about getting the gas block, muzzle device, cleaning rod, and 500m rear site.
The 5.5mm trunnion, latch mechanism and polymer furniture are a dime a dozen so not too worried.

>Looks like one dude used a Vepr with the folder to make an RPK 74M clone.
I've heard of people using square-back vepr 545's with bulgarian rpk-74 kits to make them.
An actual vepr sporter with a 23" barrel will be missing the cleaning rod guide on the gas block, raised section for the cleaning rod guide in the middle of the barrel, and collar to put the bipod onto.
It'd be more like my vepr 308 and missing that stuff.

Why not just send shit while you're there?

Personally, I'd like to see some deact kits that aren't stupid overpriced, but I'm sure that won't happen.

Still, if you can find a railed Vityaz dust cover/ RSB, or even just the cover itself, I'd pay a couple hundred for it.

I just don't want to look sketchy as shit sending regular packages from Russia to the US as a contractor, so I was gonna bring it in my allotted personal effects shipment when my contract is up

Deact kits are going to be next to impossible, I don't know if I can even buy them as a non-citizen. I'd definitely be down to get not-big slavshit items like dust covers and certain optics

I was referring to this guy's build and how he took the Vepr AK74-21 with the side folding rear trunnion already installed, swapped the barrel and put on a clubfoot. It was a guy affiliated with K-var, so I'm sure he had first dibs on the "lost barrels" quite some time ago.

My 74M actually started life as a slantback, so I know how the process works, and it's a pain in the ass.

>>33846504
>I'd definitely be down to get not-big slavshit items like dust covers and certain optics
That'd be all anybody could ask for.

Seriously though, I'm all in on most railed dust cover/RSB combos. Not including shotgun models. Just interested in rifles and Vityaz

Vityaz mags too. Don't know if you can pick those up, but they're profitable stateside. You'll have to be careful because they're sanctioned.

If I were you, I'd try to find AK100 series recoil rods with the push button. Dudes are selling them for $75-85 and I'm sure they aren't that expensive over there.
>>

>AK100 series recoil rods with the push button. Dudes are selling them for $75-85 and I'm sure they aren't that expensive over there
Also just normal old smooth top covers, they're like $50 here and they can't be that expensive there as they're just stamped steel. I agree with this anon about the push button recoil rods though if you're looking to make a buck, I assume those would probably be the best in terms of ease to get, ease to get stateside, and most money for the effort put into getting them

Check out the rear trunnion rivets. Those are not the factory rivets, so something had to be reworked there.

>>33846474
We're just talking about using one of the FM VEPRs as a potential base for a conversion. Either as a square cut, or as one with the factory folder trunnion already installed. That's why I asked you if there was a difference last night.

Yeah. I must say it's a gorgeous conversion. But those rear trunnion rivets are not original, which causes me to question why a -21(folder) was used instead of a -11.

Since I'd already seen it on the vityaz mags, I just jumped.

Like I said, when I talked to him he said he'll have more in a couple weeks, so keep an eye out.
>>
>>33846883
Can't afford both tho, at least not at the same time

I've already got a folder with the SLR104 but I also want a "true" Russian AKS74, but I also think having a fixed stock 74 would be cool too and it'll feel a little more "original" as the kit was originally an AK74. Plus all plum furniture looks nice and I don't have a rifle for that yet

I'll probably be on the fence about it until I have the kit laid out on the table as a mock up and swap the stocks back and forth a million times

Side rails only became standard on the AK-74M, before that, side rail rifles had the N designation and were used pretty much exclusively for night vision. 74Ns were far outnumbered in production compared to regular 74's, or AKS-74s.

I'm curious about your claim that the majority of the 74s you see in Ukraine pics have side rails. Are you sure you're not talking about the PGMs/Russians with 74Ms?

Maybe, but I don't think it'd be that difficult for a builder to do.

If that were the case, I'm sure he would have just started with a square-back and got the trunnion installed.
>>
>>33847176
Yeh, that's why I'm confused, because they specified that a -21(folder) was used as a base
>>
>>33847016
I'm not gonna, I've got my SLR for that. I want my build to be as close to a period correct clone as I can get it for just either a normal old AK74 or AKS74 that would have been issued to a regular Ivan in the very end of the Soviet Afghan War, and AKS74Ns are too snowflake for that

That's exactly how I feel, adding the side rail just makes it too big of a departure from what the average Ivan had. It's also so rare to see an AK in the US with a totally slick left side, which has a certain sex appeal to me.

Its much more comfortable to carry slung without the rail.
>>
>>
>>33847278
That's another reason too, growing up with my Norinco I got really used to having a slick receiver and that's one thing I kind of dislike about my SLR. I mean I think the side rail is a fantastic way of mounting optics to the rifle (prefer it over pic rails 2bh) but if I have no intention whatsoever of using an optic I'd rather not have the rail as I like it better without it. I thought about keeping my eyes peeled for an old correct style rail for it but decided that'd be too far from reality for just a proper issued service rifle

All I need now is to get a hold of 74uLLC for a receiver and get a builder lined up, but I can't spend more money on it until I sell my XM clone as I'm broke af rn. If I sell my StG-58 and one of my guitars I can have ~$3500 set aside for either another of the same kit but but with whichever stock I don't choose for this one, an SGL to 74M conversion, or a nice DDR kit but before I do any of those I kind of want to finish this one and get a taste for it first before diving in
