Drove to Georgia with my boss today to pick up a piece of equipment and picked these Colt mags up from the military on the way back from Nashville.

Thinking about upgrading my carry to an HK P30sk + stealthgear, IWB from my frightfully plebian LC9 + Galco. Can order one for around $600 shipped+ffl in most available configurations. Any input on V1 LEM vs V3 vs V3+safety and if the factory night sights upgrade are worth the extra ~$100? Or should I just wait a bit for the VP9sk or settle for a Walther now? It FEELS great and LOOKS great, but be super careful not to overtighten the action screws because the inletting in the midsection is very thin. The stock was designed to wedge apart as a method of indexing, which I do not like. You can mitigate that somewhat by installing pillars and bedding the action, which I did, but the material is still quite thin between the trigger and magazine well. I filled that whole void with JB weld and replaced the trigger guard with a nicer aluminum one from DIP to stiffen it up even more.

tl;dr Out of the box, I think Boyd's chose too chintzy a method to support the rifle, removed too much material, and it's not a cheap stock (for a .22). Tentative recommendation.

Was lying awake in bed last night thinking about guns as usual and came up with a stupid idea, tell me if I'm onto something here.

Instead of fine tuning rifles using buffer weights and different gas port sizes, would it be possible to drill holes in a gas tube to bleed off excess gas? Like this:

It would definitely bleed off gas in overgassed systems like pistols and suppressed rifles, but I wonder if it would just invite sand and micro particles into the gas tube, and therefore the chamber?

You're better off just using an adjustable gas block (a la FAL or aftermarket AR parts) to tune how much gas goes into the gas block to begin with, rather than drill holes. If you drop the rifle in mud or sand and clog up the gas tube through those holes, your rifle is going to kaboom on the next round fired.
