If you're punching paper, get 6.5 Creedmoor.

But if you're hunting, yeah go for it. The Rem 700 LR in 300 WM is the way to go.

You can rice them up a little too with the new magpul stocks and a barrel threading.

Or if you want to go gucci, get a 5R Rem 700.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) MD law bans all AR15's post-2013 except Colt HBARs and clones of that.

MSP has decided that any heavy barrel AR is cash-and-carry, but any other barrel profile in 5.56 is an assault weapon.

The 2013 law is a fucking mess. Even the State Police don't know how to enforce it. A total shitshow.

The lower doesn't really matter. A few makes are banned by name (Bushmaster, for one), but I can buy stripped lowers any time.

Pre-2013 lowers can be built into any configuration. Post-2013 is supposed to have a heavy barrel upper and meet the idiotic features test.

The features test being no more than one of the following:

>folding stock (collapsing is okay)
>grenade/flare launcher (y tho?)

So clearly almost any AR can be made MD-legal with a heavy barrel.

Other platforms are not so lucky. With a couple exceptions, AK, FAL, and dozens of others are completely banned, as well as "copies" of those designs.
