Plate Carrier owner, when do you wear them. Thinking of buying a package from Spartan Armor Systems. I don't know where I would wear it though. Seems like it would sit in the trunk of my car until a shooting happens in my city.

Hi
>>
>>33733905
Chest seals, TQs, combat gauze, ETBs, and conventional rolled gauze are all good to have.

I suggest avoiding the powdered hemostatics. Combat gauze is the current gold standard for noon-compressable arterial bleeds.
>>
I figured this would be the best place to ask but, I'm a Marine and I'm looking for something to replace my issued MTV for daily use. I am attached to the MEU but CIF decided not to issue me a plate carrier so i'm stuck with this fucking awful thing. I want something to replace it that doesn't look super different but is more comfortable and gives better freedom of movement. I was looking into the Eagle Industries MMAC but i'm not actually sure if it's releasable or not which i am pretty sure is a no-go for flying on Helos off of the ship.

I was hoping /k/ could help me out. It's just got to be Coyote, and fit standard ESAPI front and side plates and preferably releasable.
>>
>>33733914
Not a big deal, I'm picking them up with my tax return when they come in two weeks. Getting so much back, I am contemplating a ballistics mask, just because I can afford it for wonce.

Im debating something and just wanna run it through the autism spectrum before i pull the trigger.

Im getting a boltgun of some sort unless i find a socom16 ny comp.
If not then a mossberg scout in 308

Fav caliber is 308. (Actually 257 roberts but my 257 isnt comp with taco pouches)

I want a nice pack and battle belt first.
Thinking
Pack
>tad fast edc in black
The pack looks and operates amazingly. Ive wanted one for ever
Belt
>Hsgi suregrip in black possibly multicam or khaki.
Id put 2 308 mag pouches pistol mags KnifePistol setup and usually goodies. Buttpouch (maxpedition senpai) Ifak. Dump pouch
>whats a good dumppouch?
As well as a dropleg holster for either a jericho45, 1911, or a mp45

I have no clue what kind of carrier i want. I want:
Low profile.
Room for admin pouch and 308 magpouches preferably tacos.
Lightweight as possible

>helmet
This is a weird one. I see a lot of people with nonballistics. But honestly a helmet might not be my thing.

Probably gonna but the belt after. The months over.

I cant justify it until i get the rifle and pistol.
I only have the moss500 and a 22 ruger after i moved.

Also. Any reqs for 308 boltguns?

Try this. It uses a quad release buckle system which is 110x faster to reassemble than wire cable systems. Also, it's much more affordable than other systems.

What's the best chicom chest rig?
>>
>>33736267
type 81

4 ak mags or 8 ar mags, holds isreali bandages and radios in the grenade pockets.

the 56 is ok but you can carry less ammo. the extra two grenade pockets aren't worth it.

do you have a battle rifle?

the flaps will not close over any 30 round mag because they are too tall. you have to use the flap as a retention (pic related) it will not secure your mags in any real way nor will it protect them from dirt and mudd.

if you have a m14, FAL, G3, scar 17 then the 20 round mags will fit fine. i've seen people use them for 20 round mini 14 mags aswell.

what guns are you planning to use it with?

i prefer the 81, i like that i can carry alot of ammo for an AR or a better amount for an AK then with the 56. If i had hand grenades or something i would probably feel differently. I just see the chest rig at my ammo source and if i am rolling with that and a camelbak then i have everything i need to hike light weight. I love chicoms because i can wear a rucksack with them when i go backpacking and the straps are so minimal i can't feel them.

I'll definitely go for the 81 then, I mistakenly assumed that the retention on the 63 would be tight enough to not need the top straps.

As far as grenades go you could always make smoke grenades to stuff into the pouches, which are arguably more useful for civillians than frag grenades
>>
>>33736391
you can buy premade smoke grenades from enola gay that work as good as military smoke grenades. they are like $15

Sup QC, I'm looking for a plate carrier that has some throat protection; anyone have anything to suggest? Already plates and pouches and stuff.

Kind of like this but not some shitty airsoft garbage.
>>
>>33737467
What you are looking for is an armor carrier. Maybe look into surplus IOTVs.

Protip, you will try actually shooting with the throat protection exactly one time. You will then understand why no one willingly uses it while dismounted.
>>
>>33737526
For my line of work I need something that can carry all my shit and protect from spalding as the most common rounds used in attacks here are non-military rifles firing lead ball, or birdshot or 22; all of which tends to hit and expand throwing bits of metal into the throat and arms.
>>
>>33737565
Ok. Then you definitely want an armor carrier. You may even be better off just skipping plates altogether. Mind if I ask what you do?
>>
>>33737610
Is the difference between armor and plate carrier just size and beefiness? I am a member of a security company that works in south africa. Most everything we need is bought by us but money isn't really an issue.
>>
>>33737631
Armor carriers incorporate soft armor over the entire torso. Many include attachments to accommodate neck/arm/groin armor.

Pic related is one common example. Before you ask, yes you can get it in other patterns.

Why do you shoot without earpro? Literally why? You know it will damage your hearing over time, and most likely give you eeeeeEEEEEE.
My uncle was born with extreme tinitus, which got worse as he got older. When he was 55 he literally had to tire himself out every day by cycling for hours, so he could fall asleep.

There is earpro that you can connect to radios as well, or comms that you can have in one ear and have earpro over it.

Would def lool into it, not sure if there are any restrictions for only LE and Military, but I believe most is on sale. If not then you can find a lot of it on eBay. I know the Siege-R optimized is very popular amongst LE, personally only used the AAC, since I went for a lightweight setup, but I'm really satisfied with it.

https://youtu.be/KOa9XdSE9OU
>>
>>33737838
Thanks. Shipping restrictions like that usually only apply to the US, and lightweight isn't really what I need. In most cases it's response necessary.

The AAC doesn't look bad at all.. I think I need to just browse for a bit. Ill stop back in a bit to see if anyone else has suggestions. Thanks a ton.

>>
>>33737872
Most of the munitions we encounter in my work are makeshift or improvised. Usually it's soft metal or soda cans melted down that flake insanely when hitting a protective plate. Even the double coated SAPIs. I've personally seen people get more fucked up from spalding than actually taking the hit. We encounter more home made firearms than actual machined rifles/pistols at a ratio of almost 4/5.

Not a single person i've met has said positive things about crye combat uniforms.
They all said the same thing, even with mild usage they tear apart after 3 days.
They were all airsofters playing in woodlands, mind you, so no high speed low drag stuff, just some dirt, gravel and thick spiny bushes.
Still, pretty disappointing to hear that such pricy uniforms would fall apart so soon.

This was a couple years back so im not up to speed with the latest versions, i would hope that's not the case anymore though.

I think the new trend is to get soft-t wides instead of cats, at least for an ifak config. cats are hard to loop into a limb with only one hand, or impossible if say your hand was caught in something whereas the soft-t has a pretty simple hook/buckle thing and if anything has a much stronger metal windlass over the plastic cat one

I wouldn't hesitate to use cats if i was using them on someone else however, but for the same price it seems like soft-ts might be a better investment

If you find a good lightweight armor that is in your price range, stops M193, M855, M80, 7.62x39 and the like, then go for it.

If you actually care about stopping AP black tip .30-06 well then yeah you need level IV.

My friend just bought some Dyneema/SiC Ceramic/Polyethylene that aren't rated Level IV, but IF they are multi hit rated for M80, M193, 7.62x39, and are around 4.4lbs per 10x12" plate. If they stop M855 I would be all over them.

Also someone buy my carrier and plates. Will ship.

Knew saying that buzz phrase would trigger you

I didn't bring up the fact that the non level IV plates were multi hit rated to take a potential stab at level IV, fallaciously implying that level IV isn't multi hit. I brought it up to that non NIJ rated plates can be multi hit as well.

Multi hit is a perfectly reasonable expectation to have of armor. As soon as you start talking about armor that isn't NIJ rated, you probably should be careful to include if it is multi hit or not.

the other standards (FBI, US Army, US SOCOM) are not available publicly. so good luck.

There's no reason why you can't come up with your own standard but frankly speaking most random gun enthusiasts know nothing about armor. The majority of the people with knowledge came by that knowledge through work for a manufacturer, for a testing lab, or for the government.

Either way don't expect your testing to reflect operational performance very closely. All of the weird and unintuitive testing requirements in the FBI, Army, and SOCOM protocols like point blank shots, temp testing, water immersion, chemical exposure, edge shots, BFD, etc. all exist for a reason.

Hey.

Is it worth getting the polymer rifle plates these days? What gives me an ESAPI equivalent and who masks good ones?
>>
>>33745531
UHMWPE plates are generally level 3 with some special threat rating ones available. They are thick, expensive and generally pretty heavy. They float so if you find yourself on a boat you may find them helpful but otherwise they a shit compared to ceramic.
>>
>>33745634

Really? I thought they were lighter. How is the UHMWPE helmets doing for that matter?
>>
>>33745634

>Poly plates are heavy

Except for the fact that polymor plates were specifically made to be ultra light, buoyant armor plates you got everything right.
>>
Wait, what the fuck happened to K-SOG/Kratos SOG? Their website's down, and I can't find a trace of their social media shit, I just wanted to buy one of their combat sets.
>>
>>33745681

They are lighter.

The methodology behind poly armor is pretty neat on how it uses the bullets own heat and friction to melt and form an apoxy around the bullet.

Basically the area of impact turns to hot glue and rapidly cools making a bullet proof plastic.
>>
>>33742560
I don't get into the coolguygear bickering
>>
>>33745799
> Basically the area of impact turns to hot glue and rapidly cools making a bullet proof plastic.

WTF, I call BS. UHMWPE is susceptible to high temperatures, which is why users are warned against exposing their UHMWPE plates to high temperatures, i.e. a hot car.
>>
>>33744738
I don't know why you would want it in Kryptek but that's sold out everywhere
>>
>>33746229

>"Unlike ceramic, these plates take advantage of the spin of a bullet to slow it down. "The bullet's friction creates heat, which partially melts the polyethylene until it stops the bullet," explains Olsen. Then once the bullet slows and eventually stops, the polyethylene cools and rehardens. Olsen compares the action to a self-cauterizing wound."

>>

Looping back to this. Is there a nice solid sized good quality pack that is easy to rip off the carrier for easy application?

Like something with long ass molle velcro or is it pretty standard to undo the snap in metal buttons at the bottom and slide up?
>>
>>33746846
i can't because i was thinking the same thing. i wrote to the seller that has them all on ebay this morning and says you can also get the kit to mount them on a plate carrier directly for 10 bucks, not a bad deal.
>>

>>
I have a multicam TAP vest in like new condition and two kryptek TACO pistol pouches. How much should I throw these on eBay for?
>>
>>33747054
Idk, i was oriented towards multicam, mostly because i usually use green tone uniforms and i wanted to break the colors instead of looking like a green blob, then again i don't have any OD rig now and it would be nice for a change.
However i dont think i'll get the backpack that goes with it, i really dislike the idea of not being able to reach contents on my own without taking off the whole thing, same reason i tend to avoid molle backpacks for plate carriers.

Singles are great for me. I use both ARs and AKs regularly, so they are a big time and money saver. I used to wear three double TACOs on my belt (two rifle/pistol and one double rifle). I ended up deleting the R/R because I never found myself actually needing four rifle mags in my emergency reload location, and the weight of two full mags messed with retention. Double deckers are very bulky to wear over plates, particularly when one remembers how thick TACOs already are. Prone gets weird when your stuff sticks out that far. Having all that stuff will also make crawling, going through damaged structures/vehicles, and working on anything like a downed guy or any admin tasks a chore.

Yeah now that I have them on and worn it the whole day I can definitely understand how these could be a nuisance if you have to do anything other then stand and shoot. Crawling would be pretty much impossible except on flat grass and no obstructions. Plus I cannot see anything below me. I'm like a fat guy who can't see his own dick when my hands work below my waist.

I'll sit on it for now I guess. It isn't something I need for work. A range toy/home protection/SHTF kind of thing I bought just to know I have one. When I invest in a battle belt I can drop down to single mags and just spread them out.

Some of those carriers have stretch fabric to accommodate slightly larger plates and the OCPC is slightly up sized (if I can remember correctly from their email message). IMHO when a company offers are carrier in both medium and 10 x 12 sizes, it's a warning sign. Why would they go though the trouble to offer both sizes? Better safe than sorry.
