I've heard a bunch of times the following fixes for Canada's antique gun laws:

1. Pre 1898 with no restrictions on caliber, type, etc.
2. All muzzle-loaders (even new) treated as antiques.

Are there any others that could work? One idea I had was to treat all post 1898 muzzle-loaders like cap and ball revolvers as PAL only instead of RPAL for pistols. That would be an intermediate step to making them antique status. I don't think we could jump immediately to unlicensed pistols, as the media would freak out and the Liberals would rescind it the moment they got back in power. An intermediate step would help keep things calm. After all, if incrementalism worked for anti-gun initiatives, why not try some for pro-gun?
>>
>>33718177
>antiques
the usual context for discussing these in canada general is when criminal scum / medically diagnosed mentally unstable people want to get a 'gun'
>>
>>33718207
Well, I like antiques, but I don't like the stupid restrictions around caliber, or in the case of long-guns, magazines. It's ridiculous that a 8mm 1892 French revolver is an antique, but a similar-aged revolver in .32 would be prohib.
>>
>>33718235
No if it's 32 rimfire
>>
>>33718235
Antiques are classed as non-firearms in the Firearms Act and are not subject to the 25/32 caliber or 106mm barrel length requirements.

They are however still defined as firearm in the Criminal Code so just don't be waving one around.
>>
>>33718682
For the purposes of the Firearms Act they're not firearms, for the purpose of convicting people who use them in crime, they are firearms and you suffer the same consequences.

They are subject to the .32 caliber requirement, but not the barrel length:
>manufactured before 1898 that can discharge centre-fire cartridges, other than a handgun designed or adapted to discharge .32 Short Colt, .32 Long Colt, .32 Smith and Wesson, .32 Smith and Wesson Long, .32‑20 Winchester, .38 Smith and Wesson; .38 Short Colt, .38 Long Colt, .38-40 Winchester, .44‑40 Winchester, or .45 Colt cartridges.

Hmm, .25 is left out.

getting the license isn't overly difficult though

You get the m1 (have to take the g1 along with it), then you take a course on driving motorcycles at a college (about 2k or so). At which point you go for your m2 (only a few months, not 18 like a g2 wait). Most people rent a scooter to pass the test easily, at which point they'll switch the their preferred ride and ride that. You'll have to wait a certain period of time (not too sure how long) to do your M test and then you're set. Have a brother that got his M, but he only has a g2. He went from a three wheel scooter to a regular speedster motorcycle. The school course will have you work with manual and automatic bikes, ranging from scooters to dirt bikes and such.

I thought about doing it, but opted to focus on just getting my G license and spend the money on gats.
>>
>>33721107

This sounds like Ontario. In BC it's like this.

>Take written test, Pass it, get L
>Take parking lot skills test (go around cones without falling.) get second stage L
>Take road test, get N
>Now you can ride by yourself, just can't have any blood alcohol
>Take another road test, get full license
>>
>>33721127
Yep, thats Ontario.

I used to live in Alberta, back when you could get your learners permit to drive at the age of 14. I was excited for that. However my Dad got a job back in his home province of Ontario and so off we went. Leaving my home province behind. Went there last year in September after being gone from Alberta for 14 years. I actually prefer Alberta to Ontario.
>>
>>33721142
Lmfao at all these requirements and costs

My fater told me that a while back when he got his driver's license, they simply asked him "Would you like motorcycle with that?" And charged him an extra $5 and he has it to this day
>>
>>33721186
Sounds about right. My dad went to Alberta originally to work in the Oil fields. Did it for 17 years, was driving some of the big trucks at the age of 19. With the lack of safety gear and such back in his day I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was the mindset of getting a drivers license.

Then people have the gall to say firearms and firearm owners are a problem in this country.
>>
>>33721186
That reminds me how much I hate how they separate licenses into GDL and Full.
>If you want your full driver's license you pay us an extra $300 and take another road test
>No, this totally isn't a revenue scheme by the province
It's a fucking waste of time and money, that's what it is.
>>
>>33721279
Yeah Albertas licensing system is also bullshit. It is just a revenue scheme and a jobs program for the nasty women who work in the registry's offices

Hey guys... I'n new to leaf thread on /k/, and I'm not sure if this was answered or talked about before, but I just learnt of this news:

The law comes into place effectively June 1st... is there no petition to counter this dumb shit? This stupid law applies to anything firearm including airsoft, airgun, and paintball. This law will seriously wreck Canada's firearm (and airsoft and paintball) industry and community as a whole. If there is a petition out there, I'd like to sign it as soon as possible and let others know of it too.

Please and thanks!
>>
>>33721493
I'm sure there was pushback a few years ago when it was announced but its far too late for anything now, we basically lost that battle when the liberals won the election.
>>
>>33721582
Stephen Harper said to have pushed it back to June 2017 before the upcoming election of last year. Trudeau is now taking advantage of Harper's pushback to enact the law effectively of June 1st, 2017.

Is there really no way to rally against this? This is ridiculous, my colleagues are all firearm owners... there should be some sort of protest, there has to be one. Thoughts?
>>
>>33721736
Some folks on the various Canadian gun forums have got together and are working on a website:

http://stopunmarking.ca/

You can learn more on Candiangunnutz and gunownersofcanada. Also, CSSA-CILA is pushing pretty hard against this legislation. CCFR is trying to educate MPs about how useless these laws are.

A lot of people are working on it, but the problem is that it's hard to get the ear of the policy-makers. Even Wayne Easter has been complaining about the lack of ability to talk to the boys in charge of the PMO. You may not believe it, but apparently it's worse than when Harper was in.
>>
>>33721493
Non-compliance is probably the best option we have right now in the absence of a unified large-scale action.
>>
>>33721736
Not trying to take the wind outta your sails but its best to look on CGN. Trying to get anything done here is pretty pointless.

>>33721782
We can't really not comply everything is done by the importers/retailers. Aside from boycotting our own gunstores which is just counter productive as they share the same views as us.

From the application:
>If you answer yes to any of the questions in this section, you must provide details on a separate page.
>16. d) During the past five (5) years, have you threatened or attempted suicide, or have you suffered from or been diagnosed or treated by
a medical practitioner for: depression; alcohol, drug or substance abuse;behavioural problems; or emotional problems?

people who answer yes have still gotten licenses. just takes a bit of explaining ie. you were treated and you're fine now, or you're still being medicated but feel fine now. worst case is what, you might have to get a note/signature from your doctor? assuming you are mentally and emotionally adjusted now, go for it.

It depends on the recruiting center. My whole process took about 7 months. Whenever the green weenie is involved, check as often as can be reasonably done.

The way recruiting centers are done, your file could get coffee dumped on it and thrown out and they won't notify you that they need more information until you phone four months later.

Hi friends, it's me again. Just came back from Kemono Friends marathon, that was a good show. Apart from that, I talked with my colleagues yesterday. They told me for the time being, I'm overthinking things. Here is the reason why:

>Trudeau simply cannot issue the UN markings effectively on June 1st so easily
>He can not make it as a law immidately since that would supposely be illegal
>He has to discuss about it on June 1st with Parliament
>There is a tactic in Parliament where you can prolong the discussion until "discussion time for each issue" times out
>If discussion time to pass it or not or do a vote times out, then this bullshit UN markings proposal would be pushed back again for another time
>I was told to look through the Parliament website's list of issues they need to talk about everyday
>There's no way you can simply "make something into law" from a list of issues/proposals without discussion or vote first

So that's that. It appears to be fake news again.
>>
>>33741728
I thought it was already law but the implementation date was set at 1st June?

Hello there fellow leafs.
I have a question.
I shoot mostly 9mm, 40 S&W and 7.62x25 and I have been looking into getting a Skorpion from tactical imports. However I dont really want to start shooting and reloading .32 ACP.
Do you know of any conversion kits that could change it to 9mm or 7.62x25?

Not possible. The only "conversion kit" is the 22lr one but AFAIK the kits aren't available just the complete "rifles".
There is also a .380(9x17) version which you I believe you can jerry rig 9x19 dies to reload with.

Stephen Harper pushed it back to June 1st to talk about the Liberal proposal again. Just because it's pushed back to June 1st 2017 doesn't mean Trudeau can simply say "oh, let's make June 1st the day we enact it as law, my rules fuck off." Apparently, that isn't how things work around Parliament, so I assume the news sources that got such info that Trudeau would enact it as law on June 1st is wrong. Hope my colleague is correct, but we'll see.

The law was proposed since 2004. Trudeau simply cannot make it into law on June 1st, it makes no sense even if Canadian Justice Laws website says it would "come into force" on June 1st.

Take a look at this (((CBC))) article: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-government-misfires-on-promised-gun-marking-measures-1.3445444

>In their election platform, the Liberals said they would "immediately" implement gun-marking regulations.

How can you "immediately" implement a law of your choosing so easily after more than a decade of delays? During those "delays" Conservatives and Liberals debated it during Parliament for so many years, correct? Please and thanks.

>ambi AR mag release as fix for mag release problem
I've seen and shot a friend's T97 and the area on the other side of the mag release is solid metal, how the fuck would you just install an AR mag release into it?

also, when did these fucking abortions need a forward assist? the common problem has always been bullet smashed into feed ramp and back into the casing and therefore jam, no feeding. the springs on it are Soviet tractor tier, if the round passes feedramp, it's chambered -- not fully going into battery is never reporter as an issue
besides:
>thinking it's ever a good idea to force a malfunction-prone Norc-built firearm into battery if it didn't go into battery on its own

>>
>>33742919
Its more of a problem of the release still being hard to hit because its so far back of the mag well.
About the only useful thing you can do is get an ambi release and a jumbo button.
>>
>>33742776
Nigger T97 owner here
The AR mag release drops in. Ambi means you can hit it with your left hand thumb as you grab the magazine. Crazy, I know.

Forward assist helps a fuckload if you ever take it out for more than 20rds between cleanings. The bolt on mine doesn't like to fully be in battery sometimes, depends on the mag as these are picky rifles. Fwd assist puts it in battery. No OOB detonation, just don't be a pussy
The shaved bolt is not in the action, its mounted to a hole that comes prebuilt in to the lower rear of the magwell. If you owned one you'd also know exactly what mag tilt does to these rifles. The bolt forces the mag to seat so that the frontmost edge of the mag is as high as possible in the receiver which solves the feed ramp problem without filing, grinding or dremeling. I'm not going to buy a better camera so the concept makes sense to someone who doesn't own a T97. For everyone who does look for the hole at the rear of the magwell. A few layers of tape also works there temporarily for mag tilt
>>
>>33742978
so it really is just an easy drop-in or do you have to somalia-weld some shit together and generally do slav-style engineering to make it fit and make it work?

>>
>>33743056
got it
I still can't believe everyone complaining about it doesn't just buy one and shut the fuck up. every fucking review and cgn comment is about that mag release (well, and safety placement)
>>
>>33743104
The mag release is the easiest fix. The safety is fixed by putting on a T97.ca LHG. The new LHG also fixes the semirare doubletap and fail to extract misfire problem that the flimsy plastic lower gives it. I would recommend an ambi mag release, upgraded LHG, mag tilt mod if needed and nothing else. The cheek weld problem is so shit with this rifle it isn't worth the FTU. Also it isn't accurate enough for a scope, best mine does is 4moa wandering POI as it heats. Standard amongst all my friends who own em.

The AR build I'm waiting on (pls hurry CFO) comes with an optic but no rings. What do I buy?

do it scout style, buy a mount that goes on the rear sight. it will hold zero better than on the dust cover. overall I don't think it's really worth it though. they just never seem to look right with optics on it unless they're soviet style.

Rpals are the most cucked thing going right now.

Especially in the GTA where there aren't even any outdoor ranges. I'm not going to pay 700$ a year to breathe everyone else's lead.
>>
>>33720947

They would love to have you think that.
>>
>>33758953
>I'm not going to pay 700$ a year to breathe everyone else's lead.

They set up really strong HVAC systems specifically for that, you know. Though, you really should get tested for lead poisoning on a regular basis if you shoot guns at all.
>>
Why aren't steel target loads and non-toxic .22 more prevalent? I feel pretty strongly about exposing myself and possibly children to lead. Shit's really bad for you.
>>
>>33759678
Its all about cost.

Plus leads not that fucking bad, just don't touch it too much or lick it. Do people forget that leaded gas was blowing it into the air constantly for most of the 20th century?
>>
>>33760471
Yeah, and the cessation of that was linked to massive global increase in intelligence.
>>
>>33760483
I know, but people act like letting your kids shoot lead is really that big of a deal just because boomers got exposed to way more.
>>
>>33760504
The point is to minimize it as the negative effects are correlated with degree of exposure. Outdoor shooting, and with jacketed rounds, is inherently better than indoor shooting (especially if they have shitty air systems), or with lead rounds. Given our current knowledge that lead exposure is worse for the developing brain, it makes sense to avoid exposing kids to lead as much as possible.
>>
>>33760504
All lead is toxic, dude. It lowers their IQ. Why bother raising them if you're only going to half-ass keeping them from becoming retarded?
>>
Hi guys. My SKS's gas piston is very tight in the gas tube. It's not stuck but I need to tap it with a hammer for it to move back and forth. It doesn't slide smoothly like in tutorial videos.

I plan to take her to the range for the first time tomorrow and don't want the gun to explode in my face should the piston refuse to budge from the gas. Should I be worried?

Sounds like you might still have cosmoline on working parts. Did you double-check the firing pin channel, btw? Wouldn't want it to detonate out of battery or slamfire through your entire magazine.
>>
>>33761246
The firing pin is loose. When I peek inside the gas tube it looks fine. I've soaked it in Mineral Spirits and ran solvent through it many times.

Seems like a good place to ask:

I have a CSA Vz58 in .223 that came with the AR15 mag adapter already installed. I'm not too familiar with them, so I have some q's for anyone that might.

I currently only have one AR mag, a no name 10 round pistol I got from CanadaAmmo.

Anyway, when I pull the bolt back on an empty mag it locks on the mag follower, so as soon as I drop the mag, the bolt slams forward.

Does this mean there is no bold hold open in the gun? Can you even have one with the mag adapter? The guy I bought it off said the bolt hold open was removed for the AR mag adapter, but it wasn't in the box when he sent it, and videos seem to show last round hold open with the adapters installed.

Just trying to figure this out, gonna mail him now to see what's up.
>>
>>33763382
What mag adapter are you using? IIRC there's two available, a polymer one from CSA and a metal one from B&T. I own the CSA adapter and sometimes use it with my 7.62x39 VZ, bolt hold open works perfectly fine. Maybe have look at the bolt catch assembly and verify that it's using the correct parts and that they're not damaged or anything?

Wanstalls gets them every year or so from James River Armory, dunno if they're gonna be getting anymore though. They just got some a couple months ago and they sold out quick even at like $1500.

Your best bet is probably buying from someone or waiting a while to see if Wanstalls ever get them again.
