Cross-Dominance

I'm not dominant in either eye, and I have no idea how its possible for you guys to have this problem.

I drive left-handed, drink left-handed, use my phone left-handed, and eat finger foods left handed. Anything else is right handed.

Right hand, left eye.
When I shoot handguns I use my right hand anf just keep both eyes open, I use a red dot, so it doesn't matter.
When I shoot my rifle, I close my left eye and use my right with the scope. Left handed shooting feels awkward as fuck.

I'm left handed and left eye dominant.

I'm trying to train myself to shoot right handed and be right eye dominant.

It's more or less easy to shoot right handed, but I have to fight for which eye is focusing usually by briefly closing my left eye and then holding the focus in my right eye when I reopen.

You're not the only; my left eye is 20/20, and my right is 20/35. I can shoot both ways but heavily prefer lefty. Shooting bolt actions are a bit akward, but I got used to it.

I still shoot left handed sometimes, but it would be nice sometimes to either not get brass in my face or be pigeonholed into 'lefty' guns. Ideally I'd like to get to a point where I'm comfortable using either hand and either eye to suit the situation best.

A pro tip if you're cross-dominant is to train yourself in using your non-dominant hand as retraining ocular dominance takes time, requires a patch, and is just tedious compared to the alternative.

I actually swapped to being left eye dominant at around 14 due to astigmatism in my right eye. After a few months of glasses i switched back. Go figure.

Right handed left eye dominate here. I just close my left eye when I shoot. Why do you guys keep both eyes open? Is this some tacticool shit I am unaware of? I have been doing this my entire life no problems.

I am the same way, luckily with archery it's easier because as a right handed shooter, I hold the bow with my left and draw the sting with my right allowing my left eye to aim down the shaft.

Pistol shooting I don't use the sights at all and my CCW instructor, a former Israeli out here in Wyoming taught me to use my thumbs as to aim. Damn accurate with rapid shooting

Rifle was tricky but we found a solution to be tohave higher sights. Took awhile but I found a stock that has a low cheekwell and high sights to allow the use of my left eye.

Luckily for all three cases I am ambidextrous, even in writing so I really just need to gauge the situation for what would be best.

Right hand, left eye here. With handguns, I maintain right hand and left eye and do bretty good. Instructors have told me I should shoot rifles lefty though.

I usualy close my non dom eye then once i am able to locate the sight i open it back up. I feel more accurate like this as opposed to only using my dom eye. Vision in my right eye is like 20/80 so I would be a dogshit shot if I tried to shoot thay way. I learned to shoot very young so it was easy and natural to shoot left handed. I shoot pistols right handed though.

I've really never tried to shoot right handed, though I've thought of trying it to get kind of proficient operating rifles right handed.

I have no dominant eye. Found out when I joined the army. Since I'm right handed, I predominantly shoot right handed. If I'm going for long range accuracy beyond all else, then I shoot left handed. Hands drift less my I shoot lefty and I jermiah the trigger less. I can still shoot put to 4-500mright handed, but not as good. Still good enough for center mass though.

I'm right handed for sure but I've never figured out which eye is my dominant. Lately I've been practicing quick sighting with my revolver and it seems easier to me to cross my arm over and use my left eye, since it puts the gun center to my head rather than off to one side like with using the right eye. It's also easier for me to catch the front sight when I do that since I'm distracted by the disparaging images.

I am cross dominant and have managed to correct it with training. It's a simple dry fire excercise, shoulder your rifle with your dominant hand and close your dominant eye. Once you are focused on the front sight open the other eye and attempt to remain focused on the front sight as long as possible. To maximize your training time throw in a few dry fires for extra practice while balancing a dime on your barrel, it's a simple low cost training method you can do at home. By repeating this several times a day you will get to the point where you can simply raise your weapon and shoot with both eyes open and your normally non dominant eye will immediately be able to focus on the front sight.

210 average with left 220 average with right

i mainly bowl with my left because there's not a lot of left-handed bowlers and it gives me an advantage

Not OP, you're a dumbass. You do know that there is a no eye dominance, it's like 20% of the world population has it. Like the person you're talking to, I myself have no left or right dominate. If any thing, I'm happy to have this, makes shooting even easier.

Same. Although I've taught myself to use my left for a few things now.

Also was left eye dominant when aiming when I was young and quickly corrected that. Now I can manipulate my eyes and face independently.

I'm right handed, left eye dominant as well. For pistol, it doesn't make much of a difference, shot pistol league for a couple years now and I do fine. Some people struggle with optics shouldering on the right. Honestly, just force yourself to use your right eye and get used to it. Being able to shoot with your off hand is good though, so I guess just learn to use both eyes and both sides of your body.
