After I run out of bombers I'll start dumping other folders. Got something like 15 years of images saved off /k/. Time to share.

B-29, I believe. It's odd. They're separated by over a decade in development but they have very similar flight decks.
>>33586878
ok, it was the stepless cockpit.
>>33586869
It's all good. Been savings these since maybe 04 or 05 and managed not to lose them despite going through several different computers. What ever you have is welcome.

On a scale from very hard to impossible how hard would it be to get that turret to shoot at incoming missles? Seems kinda outdated. Still a beautiful aircraft
>>33586956
Didn't know that. Thanks for the info.
>>33586965
its fine. they worked along side these
b17? i have a 50mm for that
>>33586959
Pretty damned hard, but not impossible. The B-52 carried a 20mm tail gun until the mid 1990's on the offf chance a fighter was dumb enough to get in close. The Russians tended to look at what we were doing and said, "Well, the Americans are doing it. They must have a good reason, so we'll do it, too."
>>33586959
>>33586993
it may be like the tu95s tail gun, used for firing counter messures
>>33586992
Why waste a perfectly good 50mm on a B-17 when you could be popping Shermans with it?
>>33587008
it was hitlers last ditch atempt to stop the bombing raids over thr riech.
version with out a 50 is pic related
>>33587006
Quite possible. Perhaps a former crewman will come along and illuminate us.
>>33587019
you think 50mm was odd?
wait till you see the 75mm(next post)
>>33587015
It's a good looking plane. If Hitler had pulled his head out of his ass and stopped insisting on turning the 262 into a bomber, it might not have been necessary.

love this meme
flying dumptruck is here
>>33587042
He got obsessed with "wonder weapons" since he knew Germany was seriously over matched in production and personnel. The irony is, the 262 WAS a wonder weapon, and if it had been deployed when the fighter version was ready, it would have cut the daylight bombing raids to ribbons. No allied fighter with the range to escort could have matched it.
>>33587070
and for added memeing power, a toilet
>>33587081
only issue with it was hour engine life time, and the fact that it was very easy to get when landing/taking off
b57 looks good
>>33587070
What a beautiful machine.
people still posting?
>>33587118
Yep
>>33587094
Yes. All of which made it practically useless as a bomber but a still perfectly viable, if cantankerous, interceptor. If I remember correctly, Hitler's reasoning was that since dive bombers had been instrumental in the Blitzkrieg of Poland and Russia, he wanted all combat aircraft to have that capacity, at least in theory. Which is why Germany never built a four engine heavy bomber. And they could have used them when the Russians moved their factories into the Urals.
>>33587118
Yep. Keep em coming. We hit the image limit, I'll just make a new thread.
>>33587081

Well, yes, that had something to do with it. There just weren't enough good engines to go around.
That's it for my "Bombers" file. Going to "Warbirds" next.

both prototypes were scraped after 1939. this flew comabt missions
>>33587171
theres a hs129 that still flys? holy crap
>>33587164
Alright, I should have said "Never put four engine heavy bombers into regular production." The point still stands that the Luftwaffe needed a heavy bomber and didn't have one in significant numbers to matter.
>>33587070
I wish we'd built some A-1s or at least something that was externally similar for our new COIN plane program.
>>33587188
Um, Yes.
>looking around to see if anyone notices anon clicked a thumbnail of a picture saved years ago and didn't realize was a model
>>33587129
It was the bombers that were all to be more or less dive bombing capable, because early on the krauts thought that was the only way to make the bombs hit the right zip code. Obviously this made a large, four-engine, long-range bomber a hard sell in Berlin.
Then they got to take a good look at the Norden bomb sight, and may have felt somewhat silly about it all.
Pic unrelated.

Yup. Gave the Germans fits until they realized they could just run at them head on. No forward facing guns. I think most of them finished out their careers as night fighters.

>>33587613
Tons. I don't remember correctly, but I strarted coming to /k/ in 04 or 05. I've been saving images ever since. I've got planes, armor, demotivationals and memes so old they've fossilized. I've always backed up my files, so I've managed to save them through the death of four different desk tops. The reason I haven't dumped any Corsair pics is that they get a folder to themselves. i blame seeing Baa Baa Blacksheep as a kid in the 70's for falling in love with the damned things.

There was nothing wrong with the 75mm on the Hs 129, it worked extremely well against ground targets i.e. KVs. I hope you don't think they used it against bombers.
