You fucking idiot.
The OP didnt mention a brand. He actually asked what radio would be best for that application.

Rather than attempt to offer advice, you just spout assholeary.
He asked about radios, and your answer was "none" then proceeded to claim that radios are low powered with shit range.
You have clearly never even used a HT if thats what you think radios are like.

And you are a scumbag.

Ill make a deal with you. Ill post an edit of my license, and you post yours.
If mine is higher than yours we jump into IRC and we get a mod to ban your faggot useless trip code.

Sound fun?

For your average /k/unt? What you posted right there. Pretty easy to use, and you can access non armature bands like business bands and radio stations.

You can reach out a decent distance, an will always have enough power for line of sight communications. Anything in the mountains you'll want a longer radio antenna, such as a whip antenna. Battery time is decent and there are plenty of accessories and guides to get you started. Stay on GMRS and FRS stations, don't do any communicating on allocated ham bands unless you wanna go for your license or its an emergency.

For a real operator? Something more like a Yaesu mobile station for your vehicle, as well as a UHF, VHF, HF capable base station at home.

Communications is a must during SHTF or any disaster, small or large. These things will work when the cell towers go down and the power is out.

Don't listen to any retard saying "Hurr these are too complicated you'll never use them."

They are so incredibly useful for camping and innawoods activities. They are as simple or complex as you want them to be. Not to mention they're fun to fuck around with as well.

Just in case someone might need it:

1. Scroll up to the top of the page, and click on "Settings" in the upper right corner
2. Expand "Filters & Post Hiding"
3. Check the box next to "Filter and Highlight specific threads/posts"
4. Click the edit link next to "Filter and Highlight specific threads/posts"
5. Add a tripcode, like "!!5d7D/G3pIM6" for example, to the pattern field. Watch out for a space at the end.
6. Type should be set to "Tripcode"
7. Check the box under Hide
8. Click save

I'm currently using Scanner Radio for listening to ham radios and to Fire/Emergency during bad weather, etc. but I really wished it had multi-channel scanning since I live smack dab in between 2 counties and 3 cities.

Is there a phone app out there that does this, or should I look at one of the <$100 scanners available on Amazon.
>>
icom is love icom is life. I bought a few v80's, I got the one that comes with the rechargeable battery because it includes the charger and just bought the AA pack separately saving roughly $60. I keep the AA pack as a backup loaded with lithium batteries because they last (retaining charge) something like 30 years without use. I typically keep my v80 in my backpack that goes everywhere with me because it's water proof and super rugged, if just a little bulky and heavy. It's very easy to program and the BNC really opens up a ton of simple antenna options, I use a 2m J-pole at home and some random antenna when mobile that I picked because due to size constraints in the bag. If you're looking for an all around cheap 2m ONLY HT that can take a beating go with the V80. But don't over look so called "base rigs" like the Yaesu FT-2900 (75w on 2m), they are great for mobile car operating and much better than HTs for just sitting at home and getting air time practice, I got my FT-2900 a few years back on clearance for $70 from DX and I couldn't be happier with it though I only used the 75w mode for a test as it's super overkill for hitting most repeaters with a decent antenna.

>implying /k/ has a gf/someone to talk to

Yaesu ft2900r. Good home base comms and scanning the dial after the bombs fall. can be mobilized in your jeep head unit or under a dash. more important to have: a hand crank AM/shortwave radio. i've had a cheap Eton for a decade, works fine. surviving communities will use civilian equipment to pass news to civilian population and restore the state. the only people i expect to be using handhelds like OP are fast moving raiding parties that need continual headcounts and coordinated squad movements. the other use would be communities that have prepared for disaster, are drilling their defenses, and keep 24 hour guard. this implies OP will be buying a dozen baofengs to give to his neighbors.

aside from fallout larping, baofeng are cheap, noisy shit. of course /k/ loves them. pic related is my home DXing shack, receive only. sometimes output goes to the PC and runs through SpectrumLab for analysis.

I know that the BoChang catches a lot of shit these days. I don't know if it is because all the OG /k/ommandos and it's the new generation of /k/ or if the damn thing was actually a meme. But I do not have an operator license yet and I finally bought one of these a few weeks ago and I enjoy it. No I can not transmit but if you get it tuned it you can use it to listen in on local LEO and EMT. Plus I was looking for an FM radio to take with me camping and this little ditty fits the bill in my opinion. At the price they go for hell why not grab one but make sure you get a longer antenna, BOWCHANG MASTER RACE WILL LIVE ON FOREVER
>>
>>33581992
You were beaten to the Ft-2900 by a few mins I love mine and the option to boom out 75w if needed, but you're underestimating HT's the instant access to the weather service broadcast and any emergency alerts is highly valuable. My V80's are like bricks compared to a smartphone I doubt I'll ever break one, and unlike cell or wifi I've never been unable to rx the weather service less than about 3x3.

Get a Baofeng or two, if ya can splurge a bit, go for a tri-power model (7 Watts) and a nice Nagoya antanna, the 701 is a good model, make sure to get it from a REPUTABLE seller, because fakes are out there as is common with any chink shit.
Get a USB comm cable so you can use the Baofeng sofware CHIRP to load profiles on it and mass edit channels, you might even be able to hit some police/safety stations provided they haven't moved onto DMR/Moto Phase 2 or some other digital trunking system up there in the 800Mhz range.
If you have some Hasgunz friends try to get them to agree on a SHTF/WROL freq profile to load on to your radios (VHF has better range) but for dry runs stick with LEGAL FRS/GMRS radios using LEGAL settings. (FCC PLS NO BULLY)
Alternatively you can get ur Ham licence and legally operate it, which might cause HAM syndrome creating an unnatural desire to buy radios, have an elaborate base station and to DX on the HF band.

Uncle Sam truly is generous, unless of course you actually bought that in which case do you hate having your money? I'm not judging as a DoD civ Uncle Sam has provided me with many gifts. Funny enough after about 5 years I realized I had a literal box full of tinted safety glasses that I brought home and forgot to take the next day which meant I had to get a new pair from supply (rinse, wash, repeat), when I was joking with a GS buddy about it he told me that they were paying a unit cost of 200$ per pair which fedlog confirmed. Meaning I have about $10k worth of safety glasses at home, so that 15k radio isn't so bad.

Okay anons, I want to get into HAM transceivers. If you've got a license, what's your setup? Tell me about your antenna design. DSTAR is fine, but I would prefer something that will survive nukes and the resulting EMP. Assume the internet is destroyed, power grid and repeaters are down, and I'm on a homestead running off-grid solar and homebrew ethanol generators. What is the optimal radio/antenna for establishing comms with distant cities? Assume location is Texas/USA.

Not using superior range CB radio mobile with 10,000 watt kicker.
>>
I have 2 UV-5R, 1 in my trunk, 1 in my house. Each with a better antenna for range.

The base idea is communication or listening for communication if cell phones and land lines are down.

In a scenario where everyone is not friendly, these can be a liability when used to talk. They can be pinpointed down and located by hobbyist easily with the right antennas. So keep that in mind.

>CBs are extremely simple to teach to friends and innawoods noobies compared to any HAM equivalence

So on and so forth. I keep one of these in my car along with a hard wired cobra CB for recovery purposes and another on my chest rig.
