Anyone got any recommendations for a 1-4 or 1-6 scope? I saw a vortex strike eagle 1-6x24 on gun broker for $299 that I might go for. I like the idea of a fixed mag prism scope too and I see some decent ones in my price range from burris and primary arms and some others I guess.

Just gathering info now. Might wait till next month to buy and just keep rolling A-2 style

Top rifle is a VEPR, correct? I've been considering getting one while they're still relatively inexpensive in 7.62x51 or possibly 54r, but that would mean less time/cash/ammo for my AR. I would trust my life on both of them but only with hot 5.56 ammo with pressure above m855.

it's a nice rifle, 100% reliability as long you use right ammo. myself i would test its function with my preferred defensive ammo which's 64gr golddot which is not 5.56 spec and if it act like its barely cycling i would step down from factory h1 to carbine buffer.

I really wish they came with large gas port and adjustable gas block.

remember jamming when plinking at range is fine just dont use weak ammo for defensive loadout or thoroughly test defensive ammo and your remedy to reliability issue if it arise such as stepping down buffer weight. if it is weaker.

also replace gas ring as soon they fail "does gas ring stop bolt from falling in the carrier test"

My rifle as of now, well at least recently have carbine gassed 16" CL barrel with RED springco and h3 buffer(just month or two ago it was h2). If i deliberately artillery hold the rifle with h3 and sparely lubed when shooting weak 223 ammo it will fail to lock back/pick up next round but when i shoulder it like regular its 100% reliable. With h2 it's ungodly reliable in any condition at all. I think I might go back to h2 after playing around with h3 bit more.

after I decide between h2 or h3 I might do a special modification to the internal weight making it shorter and accept tiny spring to reset it's position just like vltor a5 for bolt bounce and soften recoil impulse at end of cycle.
