You'd only have needed to go an inch and a half longer and the suppressor world would have been your oyster.
You could've easily had the option, even if you never used it, of canning up and having a not-horrendously-obnoxious source of .308 firepower no larger than an unsuppressed Title 1 gun.
You fucked up, admit it.

Doesn't work any better than a properly installed Sadlak mount for an M14, and weighs twice as much.
It's ugly and ruins the lines of the host rifle.
The alternative is sending your dustcover to a guy to have a rail glued onto it.
Scoped FALs look like shit either way.

Thats what I did too. Dont sweat it, Ive heard the Bundswehr sighted in at 2 and used 3 as the general purpose setting.

1 is really just for CQC and night time.

>>33564505
I cant really tell you but I have the 91F and its very enjoyable and accurate. Handguard rail was a blessing as putting an AFG on it made a world of difference for comfort.

PTR is a fine choice. The rifles look beautiful, totally different build quality than Century and they have great customer service. Don't listen to the haters in these threads. Delayed roller blowback action is nice, and they eat steelcase like its fucking cool.

Awesome upgrades are the enhanced trigger pack from HKparts and the extended charging handle. I wish I didnt have a california castrated receiver so I could have gotten the paddle release. Now If I want to put one in I'd have to do some work with drills and dremels. The 16.5" barrel length feels very balanced compared to the longer lengths, but that's just me.

As for the sights, its totally preference. I happen to like the drum style, just know the 1 setting isnt actually meant for normal use. I've hit dead ass from 300m in the standing position without really trying. Getting the Enhanced trigger pack makes the kinda shitty stock trigger feel more like a bolt action rifle trigger. It's awesome. Get a muzzle break too and now youre slinging .308 with no muzzle climb like an absolute madman.

Downsides to the CETME/G3 design are no bolt hold open, magazines rock in like the AK, and you pretty much cant put any attachments at the 9 and 12 oclock positions lest you want to get in the way of the charging handle. HK slapping is worth it though, kek.

Cool thanks for the write up.
What do you mean the "1 setting" on the drum isn't for normal use?

I have an AIMPOINT PRO. Would that make any sense to put on a PTR or should I get some magnification to take advantage of the .308 range?

>>
>>33565941
The settings scale by degrees of 100m (I think on PTR they adjusted it for yards actually) but you can sight them to however you want. I'd say half the owners of PTRs just sight #2 at 100m because the 1 setting is not fun to use. Like I said its more for CQC and night use. You'll see when you get your hands on one.

I would say take advantage of the .308 but I mean its up to you. Its not like only using iron sights makes you a better distance shooter than using an aimpoint. The 16.5" feels like a great carbine.

PTR is fucking weird because in their catalogue and some other places the 16.5" is labeled as an 16.5" but the PTR website says 18". my barrel, measured from the chamber is definitely not that long. The case my rifle came with labeled 18" as well.

Kind of fucking irks me actually but oh well.

I shoot almost exclusively Tula and have never had a failure. Tula does very well in the PTR's blowback action and is accurate. Some people say brass is actually worse for the action as it has more of a chance of breaking in the chamber because of the insane pressures. This only really happens if you are dirtyfag and never clean the chamber flutes. I've put tons of rounds of dirty as Tula through it between cleaning and the flutes didnt get clogged up, just so you understand.

Forgot to mention the other con to this system is your spent casings get fucked up by the flutes. HOWEVER there are people who dont give a fuck and still use them for reloading, so it is possible. They just dont do it twice typically.

Not magazine fed or select fire, and it's too old.
>>

Are those the qualifiers?
>magazine fed
I could buy this one. Internal magazines do kind of push it.
>Select fire
I don't think anyone on /brg/ actually owns a battle rifle then.
>Too old
This one seems kind of bullshit to me. Most of the battle rifles are old designs.
Still though what would you call the M1 then? Service rifle?
>>
>>33568462
The term Battle Rifle was to separate the WW2 rifles from the post war style .308 class infantry rifles from the assault rifles coming out in the 70s.

It's close enough for the purposes of this thread.
>>
>>33568795
Okay I got you. Still, is there a proper term for it?

Buy receivers as a set
Unless your getting a noveske, armalite, or a specifically cut rainier, your getting a DPMS pattern headspaced barrel.
Match all other part specs to your receiver manufacturers comparability page. Think handguards and lower parts.

Is the mpt-76 a battle rifle? I don't really know the differences between a battle rifle and an assault rifle, is it just the caliber?

I want an AR10 with a binary trigger.
>>
I'm now the proud owner of a FAL. Does anyone have any optic recommendations? I have a Vortex viper pst 6-24×50 in mrad, but I feel it's a bit much for a FAL. I also have a Vortex crossfire 2 1-4×24, but it has no reticle hash marks. It's also kinda cheap.

I'm also probably going to paint it someday. Any tips for that?

Sup /brg/ I just got a FAL kit from Gunplumber. My safety can go into the full auto position. Is it legal to use this lower with a semi receiver? I did some poking around on the net and it looks like the parts that make an FAL full auto is the ejector block with a safety sear and the upper receiver being cut to allow for the safety sear. I think I'm good but I wanna be safe.

tl;dr: can I legally build a semi FAL with my FA lower?
>>
>>33581016
The upper will have a semi auto block in it. Dont worry
>>
>>33581016
If it's anything like ARs, you can use any combinations of parts you want as long as you use a semi receiver and the end result is a gun that can't go full retard.
If you're really worried, you can always send it back to Gunplumber and have him put it together for you.

The SCAR is FDE by default.
The black version was an afterthought and should be avoided unless you have a compelling reason not to, e.g., you're a LEO buying it as a patrol rifle and your department has a "no brown rifles" policy.

Like I said. I just don't like FDE. Not sure why. Maybe it's some form of autism. I just prefer my rifles in black.
