Have a MICH2000, likely going to sell and get an Ops-Core bump. Idk we will see, I dont really have a use for a helmet atm.

What's the consensus on Ops core high cuts? Worth the four figures or no.

If no, then any solid alternatives to look around at?

>>
>>33546528
Molle bags?
>>
>>33546541
Was I not clear? I meant molle backpacks.

I want one I can use every day without drawing too much attention to myself. Preferably with some internal webbing as well.
>>
>>33546580
I was just wondering if you meant something like >>33546474
with PALS on the outside, or something lime pic related; a MAPP that has PALS webbing on it and molle's onto something else with PALS webbing (ie a Plate Carrier).

If you want a solid backpack that doesn't "draw too much attention to you" then don't get something with tons of camo, Pals webbing, d rings all over the fucking place and tons of tacticool nylon.

Just realized the Rothco special ops softshell jacket is pretty Gucci, despite the gay name. It's tacticool but it's still looks acceptable with jeans on if you have a neutral color (I have black). retains heat, water repellant, windbreaker, etc. Really quality material and it's only like $80. I need to wear mine way more.

Yeah, it's definitely not a gray man jacket if you're going for that look. For my purposes I don't really care about the Velcro. I'm cool with it being there, but it wouldn't bother me if it wasn't. There's very minor differences between the condor and Rothco, like the Rothco having a detachable hood.

Daily reminder that gear doesn't mean shit if you're not in the shape to use it.
>>
>>33550500
>train how you fight

You know there is a great Pat McNamara video that rips into how distorted this saying has become. 99% of people, if there were ever to get in a shootout, wouldn't be in the situation to wear all the gear.

Realistically, "train how you fight" to most people would be using a pistol at extreme close range while either in pajamas (HD) or street clothes (CCW). I love running around in gear innawoods, but calling it anything but recreational autism is dishonest.

Yes, note the irony in my post. Realistically I won't ever have to use this shit, but I think its fun and its become my hobby so shooting and doing drills with it on is fun. Irony is hard to detect in text sometimes. Especially with so many dead serious wannabe gunfighters out there.

And I'd never rip on /GQ/ as a hobby. I love gear as much as anybody. I just kind of get perplexed by civilian people who unironically "train how you fight" in full up DEVGRU kits. The guys who have zero experience but can pontificate about their theoretical gunfighting skills (see:ARFCOM) amuse me to no end.

Oh I know, I don't pretend to be a 1337 operator, I've barely run shooting drills in the first place, I just happen to know a lot about gear due to lurking and my own research over the past few years. I shoot when I can, which isn't often as a student, and grow my skills but it's a hobby and not a job. As much as I'd like to do it as a job, I don't think I'll be doing anything high-speed any time soon.

>>33552280
you can hurt your knees at the gym too, i don't see why one would be more dangerous than the other. bad form when weightlifting can do a lot of damage too.
>>
>>33552426
Rucking is an inefficient way to try and build length strength. You aren't getting a full range of motion.

The other thing is that guys who try to go hardcore ruck mode usually get into ruck running because they think it is cool. That creates high impact on the knees and pretty much all over the body- again without the efficiebbvy provided by high weight, high range of motion exercise. Ruck running wears away important cartilage. You can get away with it for a while, but eventually it is just going to get you if it is a regular part of the routine.

Regular rucking is fine, but it shouldn't be expected to be a source of physical conditioning. You should be conditioned physically already and practice rucking to improve ruck technique and ensure the ruck is well adjusted and fitted. Also strip as much weight as possible, which goes against many people who try to show off how much they haul.

t.a guy who hiked a heavy ruck around Afghanistan and doesn't have blown out knees
>>
>>33552426
Weightlifting injuries are usually accute, while running/rucking injuries are usually chronic. You can be fucking yourself up without even realizing.

You still collecting ruski stuff? Also, if I get some fabric that's shirt-worthy, you think you could hook me up with your suppliers for zippers and moisture wicking material, etc? I can sew chest rigs, but I'd kill to have a set of surmpftarn combats.

congrats, you're now an operator

In all likelihood you'll end up with cover(s) even if it's dipped, just depends on environment. Stop caring and do what you want
>>
>>33554754
Nah, I'm not worried about what's more operator. I guess what I meant to ask was if I wanted a non-standard pattern that would fit my environment than something commonly available, like danish desert (m/84 aird) should I make buy a pre-made cover that fits, take the pattern/cut, and sew my own from camo fabric, or would it be easier just to make stencils and rattlecan it with colors that best for the original.

Sorry if I'm over thinking it, I'm all vyvanved up. I appreciate the response.

I'll say straight up I use mine for airsoft since I'm in the UK (No funs for me but I'm hoping to change that in the future)

It's been great for me thus far, especially since I slipped down a coal heap at my local airsoft field and I took a bunch of skin off my elbow. The PC itself was fine and came off looking much better than I'd thought it would. The construction is solid and the air mesh stuff on the removable shoulder padding and the inside is really comfy to wear. It's got good adjustment options, I wear it on top of a shirt in the warm and on top of a hoodie or jacket in the cold (most of the year in the UK). It had a lot of smaller features that make me like it personally. Mainly the air mesh, padding, velcro rings on the front for management and the included radio pouch that goes inside the cummerbund. It's helpful also being able to remove the padding for the shoulders if you're wearing it over thicker clothing.

I'd recommend it absolutely, it's surpassed my expectations for it's price point, £130 or so but I got it on sale for £100. I was expecting mediocrity but I love it. Hasn't failed me so far.

Surplus what? US military surplus ? /gearqueer/ approved surplus? Swedish mittens?

We suggest ebay because you will find what youre looking for and not 1980s italian airforce handkerchiefs. If you want handkerchiefs go ask milsurp general as im sure they will help.

/gearqueer/ is mainly new production "gucci" stuff with the surplus being mainly woodland, current issue, night desert and PCU stuff. So much of the civilan world produced gear blows away most issued stuff its not even funny

My current setup is a ugandan surplus PVS14 mounted on my helmet (protec highcut bump) with one of the gen2 norotos mounts and a phoenix junior strobe. For aiming I am using a russian full power laser sitting on my goto rifle. I got a criminally good deal on everything and probably have $1000 into the helmet.

If you have a full list of the gear hes selling that would help a lot.

Considering a white phos dual tube PVS14 setup, new mount+bridge and a mtek helmet for my next round of night vision. I have considered thermals but im really waiting for the tech to come down in cost similar to night vision.

Make sure you have friends with night vision as that is half the fun!

when you get up into those big rounds body armor its kinda pointless. some bubba with his deer rifle is either going to miss or kill you.
>>
>>33556609
Boy, that's readable.
>>
>>33556587
Why would it be pushing a IV? Apm2 is very different from .300. Ap has steel penetrating core(I'm assuming) and .300 has higher velocity. I'm not talking about ap .300 winmag, most likely softpoint or hollow point.

>>
>>33556612
Depends on the round, if you've seen a .300 winmag stopped by a regular run of the mil lvl 3 plate then that was VERY extraneous circumstances and an outlier at BEST.

An NIJ 3 plate will not stop 300 winmag reliably.

>>33556643
Because ceramic is weird and doesn't follow Newtonian penetration to the letter like steel does (steel follows it to the T). Ceramic just breaks up the round by being hard as fuck, so when it comes down to micro inconsistencies in the density of the metal in the bullet that determine how it breaks it's harder and harder to say.

NIJ IV will stop a 300 win mag reliably, not like you're going to see one go through more than one round in a thousand or ten thousand on a fresh plate, good strike. But that's basically at the upper end of rounds that NIJ IV plates will stop. Any bigger like 338 LM and you're going to start going clean through a lot of NIJ IV plates out there. There are plates that claim to stop even up to 338 LM but it's not in the NIJ testing so I don't pay attention to that.
>>
>>33556658
it's extremely unlikely you will ever be shot at. If you were getting shot at then you would probably be so close to the person that body armor would be pointless. If by some crazy random happenstance you were actually getting shot at by a fudd with his hunting rifle then he will either miss you all together or you would be dead before you even saw him.

body armor isn't going to save you, it doesn't make you immune to bullets. getting shot in the leg or face is going to kill you just as quickly. Proper use of cover, concealment and prior planning is going to keep you alive a lot longer.
>>
>>33556716
> if you've seen a .300 winmag stopped by a regular run of the mil lvl 3 plate then that was VERY extraneous circumstances and an outlier at BEST.

it was an AR 500 steel dot cum "III+" plate at like 50 yards.
>>
>>33556753
I'd need to see proof. Steel is garbage at stopping AP, and 300 win mag's a fucking huge round compared to the "3+" rating.

I'd believe you because shit happens but if you were to test it repeatably it wouldn't stop consistently at all.

Good call. I got mine on sale but was lucky and saw the sale early, got what I wanted, slick and mas grey. The molle looks like it could be useful though.

Is there an alternative to the Ronin Tactics Shooter Belt that's in the <$80 range?
>>
>>33560512
AVS LAB belt.
>>
>>33560552
That's $60 for the belt itself but buying all the panels for necessary molle real estate brings it back up to pretty close to the price of the Senshi in the first place. There's nothing else for that much that already has molle?
>>
>>33560656
Don't get all the panels just the ones you need. Not sure if you can buy the molle panels separate.

That's pretty much the cheapest 2 belt gun belt solution there is as far as I know. Otherwise Tyr gunfighter, and if you have more cash or want something stiffer then go with the Senshi.
>>
>>33560705
I am getting the ones I need, still brings the price of the belt up to around $100. If that's the cheapest option then I might as well spend the extra $30 and get a Senshi.
>>
>>33560762
You can get solid riggers belts for like $50-70.
>>
>>33560786
But then don't I have to get specific belt pouches instead of using the molle ones I already have?
>>
>>33560809
If that's what you need, then I'm not sure if there's anything at a lower price point. Maybe just wait for tomorrow when thread catches up.

Any Safariland Holster fags on here?

I'm looking into getting another 6365 ALS (Tac light: Streamlight TLR-1 HL) for a Glock 17, but this one I want to have as a leg rig.

Where can I find one that is affordable, also, how do I get the attachment and or install it onto a holster that makes clipping it onto a 2.25" belt easy or transitioning it to a leg rig?

I think it's called a Safariland Quick Locking System

This is more of an expediant DIY solution, but on deployment some of the guys I was with used USGI sustainment pouches off of rucksacks as packs on the back of their armor.

Enough space for basic sustainment items, and it is very flat when empty for when you are wearing a real pack over armor.

Though, desu wearing a pack directly attached to your armor like that doesn't make sense unless you're regularly doing patrols every day and you need enough sustainment stuff to get through being out overnight unexpectedly. Any less use than that and you don't need sustainment, and any more and you should wear a full up real pack.

But I believe it's officially called a Thor Tactical vest now. Which is basically FirstSpear vests, rebranded.

Alright guys, my disposable income wheel is coming back around to /k/.

I need to start planning this round of purchasing. I'll be able to put ~$800-1000 into gear this round, and I want to cover essentials first.

First things first, is armor worth the bulk and weight for an irregular? I want to get a good chest rig or plate carrier this time around, but I'm definitely a "buy once, cry once / buy it for life" purchaser.

What I need:
>Chest rig / plate carrier.
>Space for minimum 4 x 20-25rd 7.62x51 magazines / 6 x 30rd 5.56x45 magazines.
>Space for minimum 2 x 15rd 9x19mm magazines.
>Space for comms / whatever other items really should be immediately accessible.
>Modularity is a ++, but not absolutely required if the right product exists.

>Hot weather boots (sonoran desert)
>Top of the line shit, I want these to last a decade or more.
>My cold weather boots are Danner Canadians.

Depending on what's left in the budget after those two items, there's a lot of places I can spend the remainder.

Right now I have a marine corps LWH that I bought for like $20. I'll probably want to replace that eventually with something that has better support for NODs, which I intend to add when I can throw $4-10k at proper NVGs.

Suggestions?

I'm having a hard time telling the difference between the various versions of the LBT-6094. Anyone care to give me a quick rundown of the advantages / disadvantages of each?

Their website isn't super informative if you don't know what you're looking at already.

Also, plate carrier really a better choice over something like a kitted out BFG rackminus? I'm still not sold on the benefits of armor for a solo / irregular operator.

On the various versions? The a b c are sizing. A is medium sapi plates (get this unless you are gigganigga who can only be stopped by quads) b is large c is extra large.

The 6094srt is one tailored more for LEO, big hook and loop panel on front and back for those big sherrif or police patches, admin pouch behind hook and loop mayflower style, admin pouch in behind the kangaroo pouch, bigger cable routing tabs, chemlight or pen loops, and fast cuff ties. Otherwise it's the same. The sentinel has a Quick Release Cable a la Ciras/iotv style. Don't get this one it's dumb and very specific and you won't use it and if you will then you'd already know if you needed it or not. Don't get the 6094 slick there are better slicks out there and slicks are kinda dumb.
>>
>>33566603

Ok, thanks for the response. It's exactly what I wanted to know.

Alright, so that's one option for a PC.

Any alternatives, suggestions for chest rigs, or boots?

How badly did I get got, fellas? Picked up an Israeli orlite helmet. $40. It is super lightweight but glass reinforced plastic does shit against bullets. Might protect my dome from frag or falling debris. I could fit some aramid fiber panels under the webbing but that would make it hotter. I think it's a good buy. Upgradeable, cheap, and avoids the modern full combat helmet meme.
