Nah I'm taking semester off but unexpectedly I'm still busy, being volunteer firefighter now along with my dad doesn't help.
got call this morning got back on here so late cause took nap.
got to signal landing of rescue helio today using nothing but memory of signal that my mom taught me when I was like 13 or so.
I would never got the opportunity but I did cause nobody else show up on scene of helio landing until later. Pilot gave me nod of approval from excellent signaling. the helio landed softly and perfect.
I never thought I would signal a helio landing and take off.

Operator as fuck have them. he didnt baby it either.
from what i get from him and researching on it before deciding to go with acog.
It's great for quick shooting but for many the reticle is too thick and obscure too much. I like the exterior but PA have better reticle being ACSS better for making actual shots beyond 100yds with winds. then even better vortex but fucking base isnt acog style and cant mount it on carry handle.
if you got flat top vortex is really better choice then PA then Burris solely based on reticle.
I really wished burris didnt dropped the ball on the reticle.
burris also made now a rare 1x version with superior reticle but you would need a magnifier and leave it on all the time and by then you got too long of setup and it defeat the purpose of prismatic optic.
Are there any advantages/disadvantages of a shorter suppressor? I wanted to get the Ase Ultra one, and they have one very short (CQBS-BL) and one longer (CQB-BL) version, price difference is about $30 ish. But their site says they have the same sound reduction, and basically everything is the same.
are any of the side-charging uppers on the market currently any good?

In my opinion it's near the top for bang for buck. If buying new I would wait for the gen 2 viper 1-6x to be readily available. It's supposedly damn near the $1400 hd gen 2 in a $700 package.

>>33544662
>cant read
>then even better vortex but fucking base isnt acog style and cant mount it on carry handle.
clearly i'm taking about vortex base isnt acog style LIKE burris and PA
Sure PA might seem too busy but it's clear and superior for actual longer range usage burris is too busy and compacted in to basically tiny blotch of a dot and many more tiny botch of dots inside the dot. the dots is way too big and obscure too much of the target the thickass donut doesnt help.
but it's your decision just remember I warned you.
if you are concern about it's ruggedness or ability to last. You shouldnt, it will last under normal use with normal occasion hard bumps.

Optically speaking, looked at EOTech XPS/EXPS last night at LGS like I said in earlier thread. Been wanting to pick one up for a while for one of my rifles. Probably either get one tomorrow morning locally or order online tonight if I can find good deal.
My question is, why did they change their logo? Is it because of the whole US Gov't sueing them? Trying to get away from the old? Aso, every one I looked at head the new logo on it as well as the "law enforcement/military use only" deleted.
>>33544647
Not sure, I'm euro
>>33544795
It's lighter than the hd series. It's comparable to most other 1-6x optics on the market. To get anything significantly lighter you are going with Leupold and the objectively shitty reticle options on them or $2000+ euro glass.

14.5" mid if you want to run a suppressor

i opted for 16" because it's 1.5 more inches than a 14.5"

something like fagpul acs or lmt sopmod/b5 fake sopmod
let your grip to have storage capacity to storage a spare bolt+firing pin or storage that and more in your kit/bag
it would also look aesthetically gr8 and at home. now i hope you will chose well for the handguard.
I'm particularly fan or fagpul ACS.
>>33545384
Depends. Are you using it as a "pistol" or SBR? Are you installing a suppressor on it? If so, then around 5 inches is good: you want to keep the 147 grain pills subsonic. If no suppressor, then around 7 or 8 inches is better, to give yourself more handguard real estate.

Where can I find one without a buffer?
Just got the Mk8 on and a BCM ambi Charging handle.
Feels pretty amazing
>>33545766
>Can I get an aimpoint that is prismatic with zoom and not red dot for under 300?
No but you can get an Aimpoint pro for that used, maybe less, or a new one for $400. The perk of that is that you get an Aimpoint.

QD is a must. even if you dont need it you will always one day need it. even one with inferior return to zero is preferable to retarded bolt and nut+plate bolt on mount.
get any of following over geissele
-ADM
-BOBRO
-GDI
-Larue
i'm not fan or adm or larue but would take them over geissele
Geissele mount is absolutely unacceptable, its a embarrassment. What disappointment deformed child Geissele gave birth to.
*rant cool down completed. pls everybody just forget geissele's stupid bolt on mount exists.

Which Geissele is that? Mk1?
>>33545876
fairly certain it'll end up at 12 for balance/aesthetic reasons
>>33545861
What about Spuhr? They're good mounts. I'm a fan of the built-in bubble level because when facing down the enemy it's necessary to shoot straight with a gun that's straight. Those fucking groundhogs will punish you for missing.

>>33545850
I have astigmatism and don't generally prefer red dots I like having some magnification. I'm not going into combat either or I would go with something else likely. Like a acog, aimpoint or at least an accupower which I love the look of.

about tony custom they are good and cheap.
$50 is steal for good repo you probably cant get stock alone cause tony would get less profit and they arent ok with it.
there's also some no name shitty chink repo on ebay that you can buy for under $50
oh oh and theres website called m&a parts or something that sell good repo but last time i paid them visit their website dont work and i cant order bu you should try calling them.
>>33545905

>>33546011
Cool. Thanks man. I'm new to suppressors and have a lot of learning to do. It would suck to buy it and not be able to use on my 5.56 which I shoot a lot more often
>>33546024
The large ring doesn't get in the way does it?
Is it too small to be useful?
If they had a 4 power I might have gone for that but I feel like 5 is too much.

ARG hold me... I can't tell if I'm just being fickle or if I'm experiencing a paradigm shift within, but I'm starting to tire of these "do everything" monstrosities most ARs' have become... take my rifle, for example. Its plenty reliable and accurate and though it weighs 10 lbs unloaded it balances and carries fine for me on long hikes and such. I just can't help but feel though that it strays so far from what the AR was supposed to do, and I keep just wanting to ditch all my AR stuff and just make an XM177E2 clone, toss a compact ACOG on the carry handle and call it a day... wat do?
>>33546024
>AR-332
>not AR-223
My fucking tism...
>>33546107
Your rifle weighs as much as SCAR does
>>33546107
Most ar weight is in barrel and optics. Get a lightweight barrel and a red dot.
>>33546107
Keep buying ARs to numb the pain.
>>33545701
>>33546131
It has an 18" SPR barrel on it, but I still feel most the rifles here aren't far off from mine weight wise. 7 lb ARs were once the norm, and I can't help but think a 5.56 rifle shouldn't be much heavier
>>33546107
Get a pencil barrel or something like a Faxon GUNNER.
>>33546161
Something like an 18" faxxon gunner would cut a lot of that weight off.
>>33546150
your miss your barrel you silly goose
>>33546161
How to shave weight:
>Pencil barrel
>Micro red dot
>skinny stock
Optional:
>lightweight bcg
>shorter rail
>titanium parts
>>33546107
Spend all of your money buying things, and you will never see the range again.
That's pretty much it.
>>33546209
>>Pencil barrel
>[overheats internally]
>>33546183
Also, you don't need a muzzle device or pistol grip. Take that stuff off, it only adds weight. You might also consider just not using a stock?
>>33545990

>>33546244
Can use a sock instead of a handguard to save more weight too
>>33546071
No, the small ring(outside ring?) doesn't get in the way if that is what you are asking about, makes target acquisition a bit easier.
No it isn't too small to be useful. If I'm shooting further than 300 I turn it to the lower red or green setting instead of the standard black.
I've got the 3x so can't really comment on the 5x, maybe an aimpoint with a flip magnificator?
It does have a focus adjuster for clarity as well. If you have it at the proper eye relief the reticle seems to be about the size of those erasers you place over the end of a pencil. I don't really have a way to measure it.
Statements are my opinion an subject to users autism.
>>33546269
>i don't shoot more than 60 rounds a trip so no one else must either

>>33546280
Yes, but it has to be a heat-resistant sock not any only jizz rag. Also, I'd seriously consider skeletonizing everything from the receiver to the extension to the lower to the optic mount.
here's a scrap.
>>33546285
>I only shoot for tight groups
The post.
>>33546295

Actually, I think it's going to be better for the weight of the whole thing if you just don't have a barrel at all.
>>33546328

Yeah, that's why I'm just starting to want only one AR, hell less guns overall and more ammo and money. I have to decide what compromises I'd be ok making to have only one, I have to decide what I want it to do
>>33546328
>hurr durr take everything to the extreme
Pencil barrels aren't new. The original m16 had one, the SCAR L and H have them. They work fine even for combat. Only 2nd Tier operators like Marsoc need socom barrels for their Block IIs because they're too fucking stupid to know when their barrels are getting too hot. Even mk18s and CQBRs have the cut down skinny barrels underneath handguards. The a2 profile does nothing for heat anyway. A tapered shaped Hanson or Faxon barrel is best of both worlds.
>>33546349
I dunno, I have a soft spot for old school weapons modernized with new age goodies.
>>33546281

>>33544217
Fantashtic camo.
>>33544516
Why did you go with midlength gas on a 14.5" build?
Also what buffer are you running right now? If you're hitting the brass deflector that much you need a lighter buffer. Pic related.
>>33547453
Midlength is good to ~13.5"
>>33547471
>Midlength is good to ~13.5"
Apparently not, since you're having issues.
Your dwell time (time after the round passes gas port but before it leaves muzzle) is too short to push your BCG and buffer for proper ejection. What BCG and buffer are you currently running?
>>33547509
Not my barrel
Gas port diameter plays a lot, finding quality barrels in 13.7" with midlength gas is a thing.
>>33547584
Try a carbine buffer. If that doesn't work and you have a full-auto BCG you'll have to look at switching to a lighter BCG as well.
