I'm a pipefitting apprentice, 24, I got laid off in January because business was slow. I hate pipefitting. I'm a pipe welder, so this copper and threaded steel shit is boring me to death, a kid could do my job. I started thinking that I should join trumps military because this career path im on is not what I signed up for.
what is the probability of me actually getting assigned as a welder/ pipe trades worker for the military? (or a helicopter door gunner because that looks awesome)

Look into the Seabees, aka construction battalion in the Navy. You will outpace most recruits as they are green and without much experience, unlike you. You may have the opportunity to lead a welding crew/ perform a slightly more supervisal type role because of it. I dont have experience with the CBs but have considered enlisting for these reasons. If you can weld pipe, get working underwater, get your 4 years in (or more if you enjoy the job) then work in the civilian world making bank. Just my 2 cents.
