Tbqh m44s are neat. I just wish I could find one at lgs.
How many dollarydoos will one go for in Australia.

I've got the tool from my mosin cleaning kit, can't remember what its called but it has the notches to check the firing pin, every one i've seen theres 4 notches, but mine has 6. I know which notch is go but can't figure out which one is no go. Don't want to puncture a primer.
>>33333460
I got jewed and didn't get a tool when I got the nugget. I just googled the ideal firing pin protrusion, and checked w a caliper
>>33332898
dammit I hate that SVT's are so expensive in the USA. I'd love to own one but they just go for far more than they should. If leafs can buy them for half the fucking price I just can't justify that kind of investment.
At least I have a couple of nice Finn "captures" I guess.
>>33333402
>>>33333370
how accurate are these
Just got an svt-40, 1942 Tula, avt stock, $375
>>33334096
Where?
>>33333191
Flandre made the 54R threads for a long time, but unfortunately, if he or someone else didn't maintain the threads, keeping them bumped when they started to die, typically they didn't last more than 100 replies or so.
It's unfortunate, but 54R threads don't last long

>Plum bolt
Is that a Finned SVT? Never heard of Soviet treatment getting that finish.
>>33334570
I took a look at my SVT-40s, 3 of them are plum, 2 are black. None of them have any finn stamps or anything like that, there's tula and izshmash in there.
Not sure what the story is with the plum finish either. I like the look, I wonder what kind of solution is used to leave that color.
>>33334570
>>33334600
The plumming comes from refurbishing the gun from what i understand.
Here's my SVT-40 with 1944 Tula made AVT stock, AVT muzzle and 1943 Tula made barrel
>>33334627
Oh, and here's a 1916 lever Nugget
>>33334627
Bit of a frankengun, but I bet it shoots nice. Looks decent too.
I made this SVTipi with my rifles, as a prayer shrine to the /k/ube. I think I like SVT-40s best of all the Russian rifles, even if I really like a lot of Russian rifles.
>>33334627
>>33334600
>>33334627
>>33334570
The plum colour is the low-grade blueing done by refurbishment arsenals in the soviet territories (I believe bulgarians did a higher quality blueing attempt, with much more of their bolts looking like a proper dark blue (actually really dark plum still t b h). The plum colour of blueing is also a result of the metallurgy of the bolt.
>>33334668
Neat.
As much as it could be "low grade", shit's pretty yo. I wonder if they sell that particular blend of bluing somewhere.
>>33334675
>all those different marks
>and an SA
>clearly a finn sight
Is this a Finn M91?
what exactly am I looking at here?
>>33334668
I forgot to mention that one (or two) of the factories that made the SVT, had featured limited production runs of the SVT with in-house blued bolts early in the war, which quite often resulted in an orange/gold/red-coloured blueing on the bolt.
>>33334677
It's definitely neat, I got two bolts for my SVT, the original one with the blueing (because something in the blueing is just so aesthetic), and a second one which I stripped the blueing off and slightly polished to resemble the 'in-the-white' state of the bolt colouration which would have been the standard for SVTs during the war/pre-refurbishment.
According to some guy on a long-forgotten forum somewhere, if you try to blue a (obviously non blued) SVT bolt, you will result in the plum colour anyways, unless you treat it in a more sophisticated way. In other words, it's not the blue compound that makes it plum, but rather the metallurgy of the bolt that forces that colour.
>>33334683
Most likely it's just a captured 91/30, that rear sight isn't something Finns made, that's a Russian sight.
>>33333535
i got the entire tool set, 2 ammo pouches, an oil can but no sling.
My semi DP-28 and DPM parts should be here this week from SMG
>>33333370
That is legitimately a fucking beautiful rifle
I'll contribute my Finnish m91
The psl was my first taste of 54r, didn't get the mosin till years later. Shot a friend's and fell in love with it.
I wish 54r surplus would go back to the prices I was paying 10 years ago. If I hadn't been investing every cent into businesses, I'd have a stack of 54r crates taller than me.
how do care for my nugget's wood?
it's world war 2 time stock, but has that post war refinish.
I don't want to refinish, and i don't want to affect the finish.
CMP says to just rub original garand stocks down in pure tung oil.
>>33333958
Digging around on the internet
Seems people get around 1.1 - 1.4 MOA so pretty good
Here a video comparing the vepr to a real deal SVD
https://youtu.be/KiqfgAFHikg
>>33335962
Is that a vepr 1V I see?
>>33336406
It most certainly is. Beautiful gun.
Love love love my PSL
>>33333434
>>33336711
I've been thinking about getting one of those cheekpad stocks for my vepr, how do you like it?
Also what optic is that? My plan was to pick up the molot side mount and find some straight tube scope to use, but I'm not sold on it yet.
>>33336742
Stock is great. It sits higher so you can more comfortably use scopes and rotates out of the way for iron sight use. Scope is some Belorussian 1-8x or something like that I bought off of Kalinka back in 2011. I would just buy a side rail and use a regular scope.
>>33336398
Pretty much this. Mine averages 1.25 but ive pulled 1" once in awhile in good conditions and the right ammo.
>>33337460
For ~$800 and ~600 for aftermarket scope trigger and furniture its a fucking steal. They really can't be beat its objectively the best 54r rifle as of this moment cost/performance wise. Get them while theyre still available.
>>33337504
You need to get an ak mount to use 8x power scopes. Mines 4-8x 42 with diopter and red light. The variable powers are rare and The place i got it is gone it was kind of a shady email deal but they came through so im happy.
>>33336302
rifle is fine
>>33336302
you dont have to do anything. as long as the shellac is not cracking it is good to go
>mfw the first thing i did when i got my Mosin 5 years ago was refinish the stock
>>33336569
>>33336648
whats the difference between a VEPR and a PSL?
>>33335652
I feel extremely lucky that I got the oiler, pouches, cleaning kit(with tool), sling with dog collars and bayonet.
>>33332898
Can some please help me?
I've recently acquired a Finnish M39 that is devoid of any marking. I've heard that it can use 7.62x54r, but that it will rapidly deteriorate the bore? If that is case, does anyone manufacture 7.62x53r, or must I reload it myself?
>>33339553
For one thing, the psl has a lot bigger and heavier parts. Pic related, the large parts are from the psl, the smaller from a vepr54r. Then the receiver of the 54r vepr will only handle single stack mags too. I'm guessing the very heavy psl parts have something to do with it not handling heavy ball ammo, too much weight slamming into a weakened rear trunion.
>barrels
The vepr has an 18mm thick barrel IIRC across the board where it's exposed pretty much if it's like my 1v rpk.
The psl starts pretty normal, tapering down to 17mm thick before the gas block, then drops to closer to 15mm after the gas block.
For reference, sks/vz58 barrels ar 15 & 15.5mm thick, and the mosin/kar98k both have 15.5mm thick barrels towards the exposed ends. The ak-74 is ~14.2mm thick for the majority of it.
>>33336398
Couldn't watch 4 minutes of this video without wanting to snap that greasy haired nerds neck
>>33339623
post pictures, it seems odd that it would have no markings
rate my mosin guys, my cousin bubba joe says its a spetznaz paratrooper model with a genuine trench mag.
>>33334524
Why cant you guys get FALs?
>>33334683
>>33334784
Both wrong
It is an 1899 Sestroyetsk M91. It is Russian.
It is a Finn capture, but all they did was stamp meters on the sight and put it in a new stock.
>>33340571
Back In the late 80's some cunt decided it was far to deadly to be in the hands of civilians. So it's banned by name.
But it's ok, we get by with our cheep ass norinco m14's and svt-40s.
The svt came to $800 loonies with 1000rounds, and the m14 was $1200 with 1000rounds. $2000 loonies, So that's like, $5-600usd
>>33339596
forgot to mention i got a bayonet as well. A bit bummed about no sling but i can pick up one from amazon no problem.
>>33333370
nice sexts.
if this just a vepr with different furniture i must have one
>>33334668
I think they get the colour from then nickel in the steel of the bolt

As fuck
>>33345470
Yeah it was a big Christmas gift to myself. Right now I'm trying to decide between an antique Tula m91 (not Finned) and a Remington M91 dragoon that is also not Finned.
>>33345502
Honestly, fine a Sestroryetsk or Chatellerault M91. they get rarer and rarer every day
>>33345502
Also, far as I know, Remington never made a Dragoon.
>>33345533
They do, but the only ones around that I have seen are Finned. I will not accept a Finn.

>>33340571
They were prohibited in Canada because it was what the armed forces used along with the sterling SMG until 1986ish. They didn't want civilians to have "army" guns. In part because of the FLQ crisis in the early 1970's.
>>33345423
hex?
>>33352565
Yep.
It's a 1912 Izhevsk receiver
Any preferences for straight tube scopes? There's a hell of a lot of options and I don't really know which makers to go with.
Probably gonna grab an 8x power
>>33332898
>SVT, Tigr, or Mosin
Well, guess my AVT ain't welcome.
