It's a solid rail. When I got this rifle back in 2011 or 2012 the only reason I went with the Centurion C4 over the RIS II was the fact I was pinning and welding a 14.5" barrel and wanted the ability to remove the rail if needed, and since the C4 is a two piece that mounts to the stock barrel nut it addressed that issue. Damn good rail though and lighter than most quads.

Okay, after having had the chance to practice with my poverty arms 1-4x more extensively, I'm beginning to like the idea of low power variable. The only draw back bring weight. I'm thinking accupoint 1-6 might be a good option, but I'm still considering the weight saved on a fixed like an ACORN. Would love some opinions/bully, especially from guys with competitive shooting exp.

If you are going into competition the low power variables are where it's at. I like ACOGs, and I mean that, but I'll take a 1-4x or 1-6x all day over an ACOG and piggy back or offset dot/rmr.

My own scores improve every time I put a low power variable back on the gun and despite popular opinions to the contrary, my times do not decrease using an offset instead of the ring and my accuracy increases using a unified zero for 1x through max mag.

Only 1-6x I've had some trigger time behind is Kahles, Leupold VX-6, a strike eagle and the vortex HD gen 2.

I like the accupoints I've owned, especially this latest one with amber dot and german reticle. They leave you wanting stretching out past 300 yards where holdovers need to become more precise, not sure if they offer a better reticle on the 1-6x or not.

If I was going to invest in a 1-6x, which I might, it would probably be the new gen 2 viper 1-6x for the money. It's basically the HD gen 2 for half the price with only a reportedly marginal decrease in optical quality at-range and max mag. They aren't light but if you want it for pure competition and not toting through the mountains, 24oz shouldn't kill you.

If I was shopping for lightweight stuff the Leupold is the only reasonably priced option, but their reticle is meh and washes out bad in sunlight. The Kahles was great, but you are going to pay for any of the lighter euro glass.

That's a substantial investment in optics plenty of folks can't or are unwilling to undertake. The Kahles is by far the best 1-6x I've gotten behind to date. Used on with that G4b and another with one of the BDC reticles, both incredibly crisp and bright in the middle of the day under intense sun.

Waiting for one of my local sources to get in some of the viper gen 2s before I do anything. Want to get one on a rifle and put it through a day's worth of competition before I jump on the 1-6x train. I could go out and dump money on a Kahles and not be upset with it, but if I can get damn near HD gen 2 performance for $700 that's going to be hard to justify passing up.

I'm out to go fire this thing today for the first time and see if I can't get the BUIS sighted in but I know I want some kind of optic. Magnification is obviously a plus on a rifle with this kind of range but I'd also like an easy to see down option if I have to use it while not laying prone or sitting bracing a table.

Budget is $100-200 but I'd like to keep it on the low end. I'm not going to be precision shooting. Just want to be able to reach out and touch something. Already calculating replacing the stock, grip, and rails is running me up into the $300s.

Lowest I would recommend, comes with the mount and is a good optic. Anything less and its probably airsoft tier and shouldn't be on a firearm. There is a cheaper 3x I can vouch for but it only saves you like $20.
