I ran quite a few patches through the barrel and that ended up staying clear of rust, he soaked the brake in a cup of hoppes and ran paper towels soaked in hoppes through the gas tube and inside the block

Rusting was minimal but still occurred there.

the majority was on the ends of the gas tube and inside the brake.

So we just soaked everything in eds red and decided we just don't want to use corrosive ammo anymore, I'll pay the extra cent or two for Silver bear or GT so I don't have to rush home and clean a rifle

Steel rusts slower in cold weather, the Russians are fond of grease, milspec AKs will have chrome lining in the highly affected areas, and most importantly, even if you don't clean after shooting corrosive ammo, the affected areas will not impede the function of the rifle.

Gonna repost question cause I am in a pickle as far as figuring this shit out. Google is being a bitch.


When it comes to underfolders, is it normal for the stock to lean a bit toward the left side of the firearm?
I was handling a few underfolders today by different manufacturers and they all seemed to do it, some even brushing the magazine as it was being folded/unfolded.

I have pretty much decided on an underfolder for my first AK, and there is an Arsenal SAM7UF at my local gun store, milled and in new condition. $1195, which seems right around Gunbroker prices, but the layway at this gun store would really help out.

But the stock concerned me a little, I suppose, so I figured I would ask.

Also, are there any discernible differences in durability or longevity between the straight-back underfolders and the downward tilt underfolders (like one might see on a Norinco/Polytech AK, or a DDI variant?)

I only ask because I saw something on Gunbroker that mentioned that the straight-back design was more durable, and I was just wondering if that is bullshit or not.

I pour so much down the barrel and gas tube that it cools down to the point of no longer being hot enough to evaporate it off. So I used rags and patches and get the vast majority of the water off/out of the gun.
never had any rust at all after about 3500 rounds of corrosive, though I have stopped shooting it since the ban and switched to commercial ammo.

The biggest caveat to using grease in your guns is that when it mixes with dust and dirt it will create a mildly abrasive compound. On an AK this probably won't matter much but it's something to keep in mind if you're using a gun with tight tolerances like a USP or 1911.

On my AKs it wouldn't really matter because I'm pretty sure my bolts are pretty much bone dry and it's probably more damaging to the steel shooting it like that than it would with a bit of dirty grease.

I like to use grease on trigger engagements because I get a much smoother pull than oil. I also like grease because it seems to last longer when you're shooting.

I've gotten all my 74 barrels from Kvar desu. Virgin Bulgarians.

today i went by a gun shop to show my buddy the ptr91 chamber in 7.62x39.(im not sure why he is so set on it). But none the less while he checked it out i looked around.

The ak was tagged ["Marshall" zhukov] with a price of 1359. I thought that was the manufactures nickname but i guess not. I will describe it.

Ok. I'm sick of this WASR meme shit and I cringe at my attempts to make it look nice. I want to replace it with a proper AK and keep it very simple. Few questions.

If I break this thing down into a few sellable pieces (WASR, PK-A, Lantac), how much do you think I could reasonable get for all of it? Sadly the original wood that came with the WASR is ruined (it was the shit that Century put on it that was basically bleach fucking white after I sanded it and didn't take the stain at all) so I will have to sell it with the donkey dick.

If I do that, I want to replace it with a "proper" AK. Something hearty and simple. What should I look for?

"Subjectively better" is kind of a stretch. Though I personal think you get a better built AK for your money than you would a comparably priced AR.

For advantages they are incredibly simple rifles with relatively few options to worry about. They are very rugged, extremely simple to takedown and maintain, and ammo is inexpensive.

I know I was bitching about it in this thread, but the WASR is a good starting place and you can usually find WASRs in stores at pretty much the lowest prices you'll find them. My gripes are 100% cosmetic and is really just my dumb autism trying to get more out of the platform than I can.

It's not much of a problem for range use or anything, mine works fine, but if you try to have any tactical fun and do fast reloads the front locking lug will lock up on you harder than an unpaid escort

Honestly unless you're some sorta autistic collector I wouldn't recommend any Polish 5.45 mags. Both my polymer mags are overmolded to shit, to the point where my cal mag doesn't even fit in a magwell. And someone is gonna say

The polymer they use is still shit. Even before mine got fucked you can feel the difference between it and a circle 10. It felt like I could crush it in my hand whereas a ((10)) is sturdy as fuck

All that said cal marked 5.45 and steel tantals still look pretty so if you can find either for about 30 shipped they're still cool pieces to keep around

Of my three underfolders, the only one that brushes the magazine is the Polish stock (middle). The Yugo(far left) slightly favors one side and the Chinese(far right) pretty much has the mag dead center of the stock. I've not had any problems with any of them.

The straight stock is more durable as it locks on both sides of the receiver whereas the angled stocks only lock on one side of the receiver. Other than that there is a slight difference in cheek/chin weld caused by the angle.

That's a bit steep for a chinese SKS.
Find out if it's really a Norinco (commercial version made for export, no chinese characters, says "Made in China" in english) or if it's a chinese milsurp (chinese characters, stamped triangle with numbers inside indicating the arsenal that made it). The commercial versions are somewhat less desirable to collectors, though most people tend to think they are almost as dependable as the milsurp.
Either way, try to talk him down.
