Zasta, did you ever end up selling your AUG A3? How did you like it? I mean obviously the A1 is cooler but was your A3 cool in its own way?

I'm considering selling some stuff to fund an A3 because the itch for an AUG won't go away and tacticool A3s are one of the few tacticool rifles that I think actually look cool

>>33303864
Google FAL then, because there's a good list of models and some are much more available than others, you wanna learn the difference between metric and inch rifles as well

FALs got fucked hard when it came to imports so most everything came over in kits rather then rifles

>>33303855
I've heard that the recoil impulse is a lot harsher since you cut recoil system in half basically. That and the original stocks could be uncomfortable, part of the reason why I decided to go with the tactical idea instead of a straight clone first
>>
>>33303876
Century is the Century of FALs, but yes.
>>
What WASR is an MPi-KM?
>>
>>33303884
They're just expensive for what they are. You can get a cheap Imbel build and have a legitimate military parts rifle for the same price as their budget Voyager line. Century FALs are just like Century everything and will have decent guns or bad guns. The best thing about Century guns is that you can get them for cheap and they're often built on Imbel receivers with mixed up parts so you can part then out and sell the extras and get a nice receiver for a good price

>>33303915
Bumpy WASR, MPiKMSs are side flipper bumpy WASRs

>>33303898
I mean I'm a sucker for compact folding stocks but I think I draw the line at .308 folders because that just doesn't sound pleasant

Wait, how could you get scammed as the seller? MOs are as good as cash.
>>
>>33303950
Brazil is the only country with the FAL as their main service rifle as far as I know, and Imbel still keeps up production fairly well

Right now Imbel GL receivers are basically the best in production receivers

>>33303938
They're too sexy to not at least have a lower sitting around though. In my opinion at least

That's how the guy that built my FAL got the receiver. Imbel receivers usually go for around $450 for a gear logo and $400 for a non gear logo (mine is a non gear logo). He bought a beater Century FAL for like $700, tore it apart and sold the extras for around $450 and kept the receiver so pretty much only paid $250 for the receiver

Granted my receiver is marked with Century's import markings which for some is undesirable but I don't care, it's still an Imbel receiver

>>33303960
Cuz he claimed to be an FFL (he was, but he could have been lying) and had me ship the pistol before I received the MO. I was young and had never used armslist before and didn't realize how dumb that was for me to do. I mean I had his FFL info and I could have gotten it all fixed out should it have gone sour but still, I was an idiot and sent him the pistol before I received funds for it

That was like 6 years ago though and I'd like to think I'm not THAT dumb anymore

Well she's finally home, boys

I've only got three of my Chinese flat backs with me but my folks say they'll mail everything out eventually. I'm missing about a dozen more mags from their place, a bayonet, and my Chinese drum. I've got my cheese grater handguard though but it's incredibly right and won't fit on the rifle anymore (gas tube lever won't budge with it on) so it might have gotten bent or something or I might have to file some material off to get it it to fit

>Implying anyone actually uses .300BLK

>>33306081
No, it's a solid reliable round. There are more knowledgeable people out there who can go more into detail about how it's not as practical for war purposes as 5.56. But it's a great hunting round that has a lot of deviations serving multiple purposes. A lot of great platforms have it chambered. And it's just a lot of fun to shoot.

5.56

Get that AK74 aesthetic while shooting the cheapest round of all of them
Steelcase 5.56 is generally cheaper than 7.62x39. Many western optics have bullet drop compensation designed for 5.56, and from what I've seen, a nice Arsenal in 5.56 usually costs quite a bit less than their Slavic chambered counterparts.
Only downside is mag availability, but I've heard you can convert 5.45 mags.

You're welcome. It's good to see another builder on /akg/

I finished my first kit build last month. 1971 Romanian PM Md. 63; kit is a total mismatch but it has the original barrel. I got it at a flea market of all places for the measly sum of $175. Add in a receiver, oxpho-blue for the receiver, and G2 trigger group, and the build ran me roughly $325

(Old pic, current pic in thread already)

To be fair, a lot of ISPs assign IP addresses each customer account.

That's my point. I don't mind the NSA doing that on me since I have nothing to hide but if a bunch of cyber anarchists do, that bugs me.

That furniture is nice, too. And even for a mismatch, $175 is a steal. It seems like you can get lucky with parts kits in flea markets/ gun shows/ estate sales/ etc, I once someone post their Krinkov kit that cost them around $80. I realllyyy need to start going to these things.

That 74 was my first build, I like it a lot better than my waffen werks 74. Everything fits together much more tightly and it operates more smoothly. The WW tends to hang up on the last round in the magazine, I'm having none of those problems with my homebuilt.

1. I did a minimal one by heating the receiver before bluing. I don't have proper HB equipment YET.
2. The only hot blued AKs were MPi-Ks to my understanding.

I cannot say as I have only fired 5 rounds through it so far to ensure it works. And as expected it fires. I will hopefully get some range time in within the coming weeks to see how it runs, accuracy, etc. I felt fortunate to find the kit and build it. It was surely a learning experience, as I have only built one firearm before (a Hawken kit rifle)

sweet, post back here once you get some more time with it.

I learned a lot from my build as well, I was extremely paranoid about the headspacing but it turned out perfectly. The headspacing on my WW on the other hand is too tight for the GO gauge...
>>
>>33308591
I aimed to preserve as much of the original finish as possible. Keep in mine I built mine to recreate an as issued rifle, so of course finishes won't match. I care only for function. If I choose to do so later on I shall. For now however it is the least of my priorities

Will do. I remember being slightly paranoid about headspacing. Although the barrel on the kit looked like it never had anything fired through it, I still wanted to make sure headspace was in order before I even thought about firing the weapon.

No, it's a fine cartridge for a lot of things. The complaining comes from people who have exclusively shot 5.45/5.56, and then they shoot 7.62x39 expecting it to shoot like the former calibers, and it doesn't, so they complain about it. It's a great and cheap( not as cheap as years prior sadly, but still cheap) round to shoot. Don't be hesitant to get a gun(or several) in it.

Quick question, since Google ain't givin' me shit.

When it comes to underfolders, is it normal for the stock to lean a bit toward the left side of the firearm?
I was handling a few underfolders today by different manufacturers and they all seemed to do it, some even brushing the magazine as it was being folded/unfolded.

I have pretty much decided on an underfolder for my first AK, and there is an Arsenal SAM7UF at my local gun store, milled and in new condition. $1195, which seems right around Gunbroker prices, but the layway at this gun store would really help out.

But the stock concerned me a little, I suppose, so I figured I would ask.

>>33309707
Well don't take my word for it.

But if I were to buy a 5.45 AK it would almost definitely be an Arsenal. It's worth it, because AKs are durable and an Arsenal will handle a high round count.

Also because it's hard to change the configuration in a significant way, it prevents you from making it less useful because you wanted a short barrel or something silly.

AKs are great rifles for stupid people and peasants.

Actually the correct way is more like Maah-aah-Dee. There's three syllables with the accent on the last syllable

I just still call it Maah-Dee with the accent on the first syllable tho because of habit and it's just faster and quicker
>>
>>33309814
Yeah but I like it.

It works well for slapping the fire-selector all the way down with one finger.

I bought 1080 rds of corossive milsurp 5.45

Will it eat up my gun that bad?
Just have to run water through the barrel and gas tube right?

Also, who makes a good 74 sling, the one arsenal ships with the 104 is way too short to use

>>33309870
That style also costs more than 15 minutes to knurl a piece of piece of aluminum, drill and tap it, and one flat-head screw.

Not as expensive as you'd think. If you want a decent 5.45 gun that, 99% sure, WILL work right out of the box... then just get an SLR-104FR.
>>

>>33309900
actually I guess I could have spot-welded a lever onto it.

But a small hole drilled into the fire-selector lever isn't as big a deal to remove if so desired.
>>
>>33309887
You have to give it a bath

My brother and I ran hot water through his 104 after a range trip and scrubbed the damn thing and he still had rust show up all over his gas tube, gas block and brake
>>
>>33309870
>when you see it
>>
>>33309929
Yep, that's what happens when you put water onto something with corrosive residue all over it.

Hoppes #9 on a patch or boresnake, run it through 5+ times.
>>
>>33309935
That'll be a great way to keep your chrome lined bore from rusting.

>>33309963
Keeping water away from it is a good idea, truthfully my gas tube isn't deteriorating that much from corrosion. Just don't oil the piston or anything.

Gas block gets a wipe down after the bore, and the brake is mostly sacrificial (comblock ones are often chrome lined inside too), I do however use a sharp knife to scrape the crud off the crown area.

I do oil the threads on the front sight block, haven't had a problem with that yet.
>>
>>33309929
Did you pour water down the gas tube in addition to the barrel? I always take the tube off and pour water down it and the gas block, then let it dry for a few minutes before putting it back together. Never had any rust after thousands of rounds.

We covered essentially the whole thing in boiling water then gave it a thorough cleaning and still had rust
>>
>>33310043
It always seemed to me like oiling the piston just collected corrosive buildup into the gas tube and made it rust.
>>
>>33310053

I can't imagine any scenario in which it would seem like a good idea to oil the piston. I can honestly say I've never done that. Cleaned it, sure, but never oiled it.
>>
>>33310070
Usually I wipe grease residue off my fingers onto the top portions of the carrier part of piston, am I weird?
