Posted in the old thread, but does anyone have experience with the PSAK barreled receiver kits? I would like to try and get one of those when they come back in stock for my first AK. I've built ARs in the past if that makes a difference.

Just want to know if theyre quality AKs. If not, what should I be looking for?

Century usually just does parts kits which notoriously can be hit or miss, a 100% US made non-parts kit gun should be GTG. I mean the fit and finish on them is great.

WASR is a workhorse. They were sketchy in the early days, but now the GP WASR-10 is quite a good rifle.

The Arsenal SLRs might be slightly more accurate, but you can't beat the Romanians' price point. Just be sure to get some surplus furniture, the only real drawback is that the furniture it comes with is cardboard-tier.

On the off chance that you aren't trolling I'll let you in on things here. Americans are shit at making AK's because it uses "old world technologies" to manufacture. Metal stampings, presses, and rivets to assemble a rifle and more often than not Americans have no experience anymore making that kind of stuff. Building an AK is a different animal than making an AR or a remshit 700. If you don't know your shit you get a trash rifle. The RAS is shit because instead of proper forgings for the trunions and other important parts that work with the violent action of a Kalashnikov, Century uses cast metal parts that mushroom and deform with use. Sure it will work for a bit, until it beats itself out of headspace and blows up. Watch rifle dynamics build class videos on youtube to get an idea of what goes into the guns before you waste your money on "muh made in America" bullshit.

RS regulate makes a siderail mount that is very close to the top of the dust cover, but I'm not sure if they sell them with 30mm rings on them. I know they sell a picatinny version, but you could check their website or buy 30mm picatinny rings for the picatinny version.

To me the railed gas tube is too far away, but I've never looked at a red dot at that distance from my eye, so in reality it might work.
I think the railed gas tube would be more stable and hold zero better than the dust cover. But, the railed gas tube could possibly affect the barrel harmonics and affect accuracy.
I have never tried either so I'm really just shitposting. Hopefully someone with some experience with either/both setup can give you some actual advice.

It's actually kinda hard to fuck up when you're not doing the sanding method. In the past I sanded and it never turned out how I wanted, this time around I just went with citistrip, a sharp edge, and a little bit of sanding and it worked out great. Just take your time. my unprofessional opinion is slow down. once you rinse it, give it a good long while to dry. a day if you can. don't want to rush into it and screw up.
also plenty of time to dry between coats is a good idea too. I usually give 24 hours between coats of stain, and a week between last coat of stain and clear coat.

WASR furniture is a shit but at least is usable would still recommend upgrading when you have the cash, also recommend a retainer plate so you dont have to fuck with the paper clip and a metal grip nut because the tapco plastic one is shitty and a new metal nut is like 3$ the WASR has an ok trigger it is light enough but is like a two stage trigger and a bit mushy still serviceable though and easy to use to accurately shoot when you need a trigger upgrade the AKT is the way to go. PSA has a good price on their polymer kits 50$ for black russian style polymer furniture sets. Would have picked one up but I desperately needed a set of jack stands.
