Never really looked at the inside of an AK, what causes that? Is that as common as Garand thumb or is that some sort of disassembly/catastrophic failure?

If you release tension on the hammer by moving the springs, they can snap back and hurt. I've had it happen once or twice but never as bad as in the picture

From what I hear, Vympel had contracts to fill until early 2017. It seems they're exporting for civilian use now which is very good news for us if it lives up to the hype

I'm not worried.

After all, Vympel plant was built with the sole purpose of producing 5.45x39 ammunition. It was only later they got into other calibers.

So I've got an NPAP and recently the whole BCG is getting stuck in the rearward position. When I fire it eventually pops out as well and sort of gets stuck inside the receiver. I've replaced the recoil spring group to no avail and put in a recoil buffer for the time being.

Any ideas what's going on and how to fix? I think if I had the locking lug for the dust cover the recoil spring wouldn't be able to come out of position, it fell off a long time ago and I haven't found anywhere online that sells a replacement

See pic.

Is this /ak/ enough for /akg/?

This is one is a Romanian factory gun that I put a Nodak flash hider on. I also turned a nice crown on it in a lathe. I feel like it shoots far better than it should, especially with 7N1.

The optic is the closest thing I could get to a PSO-1M2. Same exact scope with 1.7m rangefinder but uses the hash marks on the elevation instead of dedicated BDC. I'm a bit of a slavboo but the system makes sense to me and it's pretty fucking practical.

I've asked this question of one of the "established" AK and SVD shooters out there so maybe /k/ can help.

What are the actual, practical holdovers for 7.62X54r light ball using a PSO in either a PSL or SVD? I KNOW the lower chevrons are supposed to be for distances past 1000m but they would also provide reference points for shorter ranges. I used Strelok to get an estimation but just curious if anyone has range time for a better idea.

It's hard to get an AK in a bad configuration. They come with irons sights and SBR variants are rare. (SBRs are a meme)

They're pretty notorious for shit like (as an example) inviting a bunch of YouTube gun guys to a big press event and having the hand-picked expo guns not work.

Does the BCG rattle around when it's in battery?
Lots of 2015 NPAPs had an issue where their recoil springs and assemblies were shorter than spec for an M70 (see pic, NPAP on left, M70 on right). This is where the whole "bad heat treat" meme originated, because the whole thing was beating the fuck out of itself due to a weak spring and short assembly.
Your spring should be stopping your BCG before it gets that far back.
Used to be you could snag surplus M70 assemblies off Apex for $25 shipped.

your finish will probably wipe off afterward.

just run a hoppes #9 rag through it afterward a few times
>>
>>33189271
Just pop the top cover off and remove bcg/recoil spring then pour water through

It'll flush the salts and cool your rifle down at the same time. Then clean when you get home
>>
>>33189321
it will also make the nooks and crannies rust because you poured water all over it.

put it in the oven afterward to dry it off I guess

>>
>>33189336
Shake it off and dry it down when you get home if you're worried?

The rifle finish is supposed to prevent rust
>inb4 bubbles
Water is the generally accepted way to do it though, and there isn't a pandemic of rusted AKs. You'll be fine

GP = "General Purpose" if internet lore is true.
10/63s are technically "GP WASR-10/63" for instance. The "63" designates a production date before the cutoff for WASRs to be considered good AKs though.
Doesn't mean it's bad necessarily but those old WASRs definitely earned their rep for spotty quality.
Again, learn what to look for and inspect the shit out of it.

I wonder if the barrel would be too thin near the muzzle if you turned the OD down concentric to the crooked bore there--then sleeved it (press fit & pin).

Or would it be better to bore the front sight block concentric to the bore and then sleeve it down to barrel size?

It could be crooked in a two-dimensional way, though.

Like instead of a straight-line down toward the chamber from the bore, it could be an angle compared to the OD of the barrel.

That's more complicated to fix.

Hmmm I have a better idea.

Turn the OD of the front sight block threads down concentric with the bore, re-thread (or sleeve it), you can turn the sleeve down concentric to the eccentric, then weld the ends, plug weld, blind pin, etc.

They aren't though, they're offering to let him fuck up their paps, wasrs, arsenals, you name it

I'm thinking about picking up a century arms zavasta m70 underfolder for my first ak. What is a good price for one and is it a good choice? I would mostly be using it as a backpacking rifle.

Stocks are kinda shit but it should work fine for around 600-650.

these are really uncomfortable

What kind of stock should I go for? I need some kind of collapsible one.

Arsenal folder if you have the money
or get a WASR and a wire sidefolder, but those aren't super comfortable either

I have those same socks. Super dark blue and actual black pairs, almost indistinguishable unless you are paying attention.

Just found out that my SAR-2 has a 22mm barrel and that only unicorn romanian FSB's fit on it. So I either buy the JMB thread adapter and press it on, thread my barrel, or wait and look for a romy fsb...

Couldn't be closer to the truth. ARfags come here occasionally to try deal a petty insult.
Then again I never go to /arg/, maybe akfags go there to be shitheads sometimes too.

Hey man, I know a general amount about guns. When I see a 74 variant with no flash hider, I assume clitoris import ban fuckery, not "Romania decides to make snowflake barrel 2mm less than other barrel so good luck finding a fsb that costs less than $300"...

And it did only take me 3 seconds to find info on AKFiles. Still woulda bought it knowing what I know now. Cost me $550 and the fsb threads/lug are the only issues. It shoots great otherwise, not trigger slap or any other issues.

The SAR-2 is a civi version of the Pmd. 86/AIMS-74. It's not an AK-74 though, which you should know already. Same with the Tantal.

Do I have any decent options for triple single stack mag pouches for my plate carrier besides tacos for 7.62x39 mags?
Trying to decide what to get for my Vz58.

If you want a folder, triangle or polymer is the way to go. Underfolders are cool as fuck but yeah they're not all that fun to shoot for extended periods. I like them more than Romy wire folders though.

Are you thinking Zastava NPAP-DF or one of the Century M70AB2s?

I mean, I know its a civvie version of the aims. Which is romanias 5.45 ak based off the 74, same with the tantal. So they arent exactly ak-74's, but they are based off it and almost identical aside from minor modifications. I just expected the FSB to be compatible. I mean fuck, the AMD and M70's FSB's are compatible with the 74's. Does any other common AK derivative use a different size barrel?

The Romanians didn't base it off the AK-74 you dumb nigger, they used the same caliber (obviously) and took a few design inspirations but it's more an AKM chambered in 5.45x39 than it is an AK-74 derivative. Literally just google
>sar-2 barrel diameter

The differences between the 47 and 74 can be counted on your fingers, and the PA is halfway between. So yeah, the kinda used design elements of both if you wanna be as pedantic as possible.

This has to be the most autistic argument on 4chan I have ever had. Arguing how apparently its retarded to buy a gun without realizing that there is a 2mm difference between it and the literal gun its based off.

Fuck it. I already ordered the thread. I don't even know what you want.

>2-year-old memes
Don't get me wrong, Zastava QC definitely slipped in late 2014, early 2015. Out-of-spec receivers were certainly a problem (the first AKOU NPAP video for instance) to some degree as well.
But "muh heat treat" has been debunked playboy.

>NPAP owner detected
No shit, Sherlock. It's one of the NPAPs from the time period in question too, which is why I know about the out-of-spec recoil assemblies. It actually shipped with a mis-drilled FSB which was a legitimate problem that I fixed myself. I'm 4000rds deep on the gun in question and it's still going strong. It's also not my only AK.

Sweet anecdotes m8

They're far from perfect guns but the only data available (>>33192745) disproves "muh pot metal" and I've yet to aee an actual Rockwell test showing NPAP components to be softer than other AKs
>>
>>33192768
No one said "pot metal", the only claims were that a few batches had some issues with QC and heat treating. Not one person ITT used the term "Pot metal".

I got you senpai- what you want is the strikehard gear AK mag shingle. VZ mags fit well and they size their pouches for VZ mags- just sell them as AK mag pouches in name. I've asked the owner before.

Cheap and durable. Shingles come with enough strapping to make a good ad hoc chest rig too if you're not a fatty

Does anyone have any experience with the PSAK barreled receiver kits? Id like to try and get one of those to assemble my first ak when they are back in stock. Ive built ARs in the past if that makes any difference.

But are they quality AKs? What should I look for if they arent?

Seen a lot of photos where the alg akt damaged the bolt carriers dove tail, more than tapco g2 or equivalents, in the same number of rounds. It was only a little more than normal, but thought I would mention it in case your ocd about stuff like that like I am.
