Sold my rk3 finally, getting some money together for my next slav optic and my friends ex-sniper nugget
>>
Considering I've got a decent amount of nugget lunch laying around, I was looking to get a 7.62x54R VEPR. How bad of an idea is this? I really wanna get SVD-esque black polymer furniture and a combloc scope. Does the scope need to be SVD mount or AKM mount to work on the VEPR? Also, where to find those parts?
>>
I'm an AR owner with no AKs. I know nothing about AK manufacturers aside from Izmash/Kalashnikov Concern. I want an AK-74m sidefolder as close to Russian military spec as possible. Where do I start?
>>

AKM I believe.

>>
>>33180909
There are no factory ak74m clones, you'd have to look for kit builds. Otherwise arsenal makes an excellent ask74 clone, the slr-104fr. Just slap some wood and a triangle folder on and it's a perfect clone except for the full auto shit
>>

>>
>>33180990
Close enough for gubermint work
>>
>>33181069
Mainly the hardware on the barrel
>>
>>33181069
Visible differences are Incorrect rear trunnion, incorrect dust cover, incorrect rear sight block, incorrect gas block, incorrect front sight block, incorrect muzzle brake off the top of my head. The SLR104 with polymer folder is more of an AKS74 clone halfway dressed up as an AK74M, whereas the SLR104 with triangle folder is an accurate enough early 80s AKS74 clone with a side rail
>>
>>33180909
Your closest factory rifle would be an SGL31-94, but be prepared to drop at least $1500 on a used one as they're banned from import and even then they're not a 100% accurate AK74M clone, just the closest we've ever got from a factory rifle. If you're not high functioning autistic just suck it up and buy an SLR104 and deal with the incorrectness of it as a 74M clone and enjoy by far the best factory 5.45 AK on the US market

Looks like I'm going with an SLR-104fr then. I don't know enough about AKs to attempt a kit build and I'm definitely not buying a kit built by someone else. For future reference does anyone like Nodak Spud make receiver blanks with correct Izmash markings to build a kit on?

Just remember that unless you have access to a machineshop and you're willing to make about half a dozen jigs, you're better off buying a parts kit, a decent barrel, a receiver, and shipping it off to a professional builder.
>>
>>33181281
When I said I wouldn't buy a kit build built by someone else I only meant home builders, professionals are a different story. I'll get the SLR-104fr for now; if that doesn't cure my Russiaboo autism I'll look into other options later. Does anyone her have 74m clone builds?

Well, considering SLR's are made from Bulgarian parts kits and not Russian, I don't know how well it's going to cure any sort of russiabooism.

They're still better than Saigas and Veprs in terms of quality, though.
>>
>>33181873
THEY'RE NOT BUILT FROM PARTS KITS YOU FAGGOT
>>
>>33181909
Bulgarian parts, sent over here, built in the US.
>>
>>33181915
Look at the receiver, you'll notice it says
>Made in Bulgaria
>>
>>33181926
And SGL's say they're made in Russia. Did you know that 922(r) is an import law and companies still have to abide by that to have AK's imported?
>>
>>33181937
Are you seriously implying that SGL's are built from a parts kit? Are you this dense? They are (or were) brought in as sporters and then converted. Same with the Bulgarian SLR's, they're brought in as a neutered sporter and then desporterized with US made parts and a bit of work. They, however, are not built from parts kits or parts sets.
>>
>>33181950
Then forgive me for saying the word 'kits', sir autism. Slip of the tongue.
>>
>>33181915
Most of the important steps are completed in the home country
>>
>>33181952
You're a fucking moron, importing a sporter rifle and desporterizing it isn't even in the same ballpark as a parts kit build. If they did build from a parts kit they'd, most likely, use US made receivers to simplify the process and if you've ever bothered to count the US made parts in an SLR-104, SLR-106, or SLR-107, you'll notice that not a single one of those parts is the receiver, on the FR models the US made parts go as follows:
>muzzle brake/flash hider
>handguard
>pistol grip
>stock
>trigger
>hammer
>disconnector
And sometimes they throw in a stubby US made magazine (rarely) since they usually ship with a Bulgarian made Circle 10 mag. Go fucking kys you cancerous ignoramus faggot

>>33182683
You might not mind it, and that's fine, but it is inherently less stable.

chin weld - your head is supported by your chin, so it can easily move side to side
cheek weld - your cheek is pressed against the side of the stock, preventing side to side motion, and your jaw is pressed on the top of the stock, supporting your head
>>
>>33182706

no doubt cheek welds are more stable. im just saying the chin weld seems more comfortable while moving

Don't do it, they're shit. Just use that money on an aimpoint or some other superior Western optic instead of some shitty Russian memebox

Chin weld doesn't bug me in the slightest. It's quick to snap up from low ready and be right in view without having to adjust my head or face, and being that high above the stock makes you a bit more aware of everything around you as you're not all cranked down with a rifle covering half of your face. Sure, if you're shooting for accuracy you're gonna have a harder time with chin weld but if you're just having fun shooting man sized targets at 300 yards and in its a non issue. I have no problems whatsoever ringing steel out to 300 yards with my Obzor

maybe i'm late, but i found something interesting with my tula plums.

on the very bottom of the mag body, there's like a divot or detent. in that, they stamped the mold number, followed by an additional digit.

>pic related is mold 23 with a 2 below it

maybe the additional number indicates the mag body's specific number in the mold? like the second body in the 23rd mold?

all of my tula plum mags had this, though sometimes the numbers were separated with a dash.
i only checked a couple izzy plums, which didn't have the mold number printed there, just a different number (maybe a shorthand form of tula's method?); and the bakes i looked at had no numbers there.

No, the two pics are me. Garbzor is just a meme

I genuinely like the Obzor. Would I say it's better than a modern western red dot? No. Would I say it's equal? No, pretty close but not equal as for a general optic for a general shooter a modern red dot would still be better. What it is is different and interesting while also being a capable optic, and that is why I like it. It's something that outside of die hard AK people nobody will have while also being something that is still capable of performing as a solid optic. It takes getting used to as it's different but I've really grown to love it. It's got the weird Russian aesthetic while also being one of the best of the modern Russian optics

Unless you're specifically after the Slav look you'd be better off with a side rail mounted aimpoint as that will be in every regard the better optic but if you want the Slav look the Obzor is worth looking in to as it's still a great, if weird, optic

It's corrosive, and has the same performance as M43, which is absolutely terrible by modern standards. And it doesn't have any of that Hollywood "armor piercing" magic that the ATF keeps saying it does.

If you really wants some high quality corrosive ammo for storage, get some Yugo M67. You can get 1120 fucking rounds, metal sealed tin and crate, for 359 bucks, and it yaws like a sonofabitch.

I'd consider doing it just because I'm an ammo collector, and ONLY if it's steel cored.
Otherwise, not worth it at all, way too expensive for 762x39 ammo.

from what i've seen of my tulas, yes.

in my izzy's there was only one number, which in the examples i checked did not match. i think maybe the numbers that the izzy's use the shorthand version of the tulas.

Its a izzy. Ive checked others and they dont match.

so, everyone knows WASRs don't have dimples and instead have plates welded into the receiver for the same purpose

I had always thought that they did this to accommodate single stack mags for export, since you couldn't make the dimples deep enough to work with single stack mags
then, these deeper plates were cut at the same time as the mag wells to work with double stack mags

an anon yesterday said that was not the case

does anyone have the real story?

I checked my lowest and highest mold numbers. Take any numbers on the followers and spring floor plates with a grain of salt because who knows if they've been swapped around from mag to mag at all

My lowest is 17 and it has an 8 in the divot, a 1-4 on the spring floor plate, and an 18-1 on the follower

My highest is 57 and it has a 7 in the divot, a 2-3 on the spring floor plate, and a 15-2 on the follower

Again, assume that the guts of each mag aren't original to the mag as the 57 for sure came to me from Russia in pieces and the 17 I'm assuming came to the guy I bought it from in the same way from Russia

Mark at SGAMMO does timed releases. he only puts up a few cases at a time so people dont buy em all at once.
>>

Old hat. I don't think SGAmmo has ever had more than 30 cases of anything. Their tactics actually worked on me when I was buying 7n6 after the ban and was panicking trying to find some.

He could easily just place a limit on how many cases or boxes one customer can order. He does it to drum up panic like he's almost out, I'm guessing.

Either that or their stock keeping is terrible and they're afraid they'll oversell

That's just the way he lists things, when it sells down it bumps back up. I'm tempted but I'm sitting on 11k rounds of 7n6 and ~1500 rounds of Silver Bear and Wolf and there are a few things on the marketplace that have my attention.

It's not magic.
Sam has said plenty of times that's how he does the inventory system.
He never puts all of it in at one time.
He said it's as to not overload the system, but I think it's an enticement method.

>>33185023
I've got three ribbed RPK74 mags too and they're all black Molot. One is definitely being sold and I'd like to keep two on hand so I'm probably gonna trade one for a plum one or just sell it too to buy a plum one

welcome to 5 hours ago.
also, fuck getting their newsletter every other day or whatever it is. just click "notify when back in stock" and the only time you get something from them is when it's actually back in stock.
I got my notification 6 hours ago.
>>
>>33185329
But how would you know that it could be a really really long time until they get more?
>>
>>33185301

About 3 years ago I clicked the notify me button.
About 2 years ago I gave up and forgot about it. I figured we'd not see it again until Ukraine straightened out because they were fulfilling military contracts for 5.45 ammo.
Today I got an email.
I didn't subscribe to their newsletter because I hate spam/junkmail. This system of clicking the notify button works for me.
>>
I want to buy some GT 5.45 but I know I'm just going to sit on it and never shoot it.
>>
>>33185483
I know that feel. I just ordered a case but I have roughly 3k rounds of Silver Bear to shoot first so it'll definitely sit for a while

Yeah me too, I thought about it but I know I won't shoot it as I've got more than enough Wolf and Silver Bear. Maybe I'll trade some of my 7.62 GT for 5.45
>>
>>33184161

But why not have your cleaning rod on your rifle?
>>
>>33185483
I'd say do it if you can afford it. It's not like it's going to go bad in a year or two. I've got some ammo in my garage that I've had 10 years and it still goes with 100% reliability.

>>33185724
I'm the forest pic, and it was an unconverted Saiga, so no place for a bayonet or cleaning rod. It's at a builder right now, waiting in line to be converted. When I get it back I'll have a place to put the cleaning rod that came in the box with the gun.
Only 12 or 16 more weeks to wait. I can do it. I can wait that long......
>>
>tfw your order of 5.45 GT has already shipped

That's the way you run a business. Order placed this morning, shipped out by COB.

With Daewoo and anon talking about RPK 45 rounders, does anyone have any pics of AK74s in the field with RPK74 mags? I've seen quite a few with AKS-74Us with 45 round bakes but hardly any of rifles with RPK74 mags.

The barrel and the bolt, not really. There are plenty of deacts but that automatically excludes barrels and bolts. And I think the front trunnions for Russian deacts. A complete matching 74M kit is something that pretty much doesn't exist for us.
>>
>>33187012
>deacts
Didn't think of those. What could be salvaged from something like this? Of course not the bolt, barrel, and fire controls. What about "cocking and dry firing" deacts?
