They're great mags, when I first bought my SLR I picked up six of them to be beaters and they've never given me a hiccup after two years of being my go to mags for actual use. I've got enough cooler mags (like plums and true blacks) that are in beater condition so I don't care about using them so I'm probably gonna get rid of my sanitized mags shortly, but they served me very well without any worry of dinging up nicer mags. If you want you can strip the paint and get to the (heavily sanded) plum color if that's something you'd want

When I got mine though they were considerably cheaper than Russian surplus mags, whereas today Russian mags have really gone down in price. $27 isn't bad without shipping, but it isn't good either. Maybe try to wiggle him down some, or try to buy four for $100 even, $25 a piece. That's an alright price. Having a fucked up AK has made him(and me) learn the entire internals of an AK. We've already replaced almost every part that could be wrong that's only a few bucks to replace. At this point it's either a fucked up receiver or the headspacing is wrong, or maybe the bolt group, hell if I know.

You raise your head up a bit higher to look through the optic and then you can just tuck down to use the irons, it's a really fast switch once you get used to it. It is kinda weird at first not holding a strong chin/cheek weld to the stock when using the optic tho

And even with a sling you'd use your hand to rotate the rifle around, not to mention that you run the risk and hitting the gas tube or letting it rest on you with the sling

For low ready you'll still bang your legs on the gas tube trying to walk, and if you do anything more than draw a handgun you're moving the rifle off to the side. I've still got my Bulgarian one somewhere and I used it for a bit but I decided having the sling at all did more to get in the way than anything else

I'm not sure if the pin locations are standardized between types of front sight. But I imagine you could always make it work by drilling new spots on the barrel. The ak-74 style fsb would cover the old ones so it'd look the same.

Funny you say that. They prob arent, because my barrel has a drill mark closer to the muzzle where I bet the 74 front post sat. I have no clue why it was removed as this isnt a clinton'd model, its not a single stack reconvert so I have no clue. Maybe the 74 hider got damaged and they only had a 47, maybe they wanted it to look like a 47, or it was done to comply with a state law. But then why would you drill a rut for the post where the 47 post goes vs just putting the new post in the 74 rut.

"Aircraft stripper" is basically methylene chloride. Works well and is stronger than mineral spirits or petrol. Available in various viscosities, and get a stiff bristle brush (to work in into softening paint) and a few pair of rubber gloves to go with it.

you have two choices when stripping paint:
the mild stuff that takes forever but it easy to use
or the hardcore shit that will give you chemical burns but get the job done in a few hours.
either way I recommend completely disassembling everything to get all the paint out.

Also both my Polish polymer mags are overmolded as shit and the cal marked one literally will not fit in my magwell, despite mine actually being cut a little wide

I know a dude who was trying to sell them for 40 shipped each, but I got mine for 30 shipped
