What tools are necessary for building? Just a punch set, nylon mallet, armorers wrench and a vise? New to builds obviously.

Depends, are you asking about uppers, lowers, or both? I built my first lower with some electrical tape (I like it better than duct tape as it's thinner and smoother), some adjustable pliers, needle nose pliers, and a hammer.

Building uppers and lowers really isn't as daunting as it may seem, though you definitely will make some mistakes and have some scratches on your first upper and/or lower. But you learn quickly and in my opinion, ARs are meant to be used and so will develop scratches anyway. It adds to the character of the gun and makes it feel personal.

What is actually meant to go inside the little compartment in A2 stocks? I bought pic related because someone here posted they got one and I was already thinking about it so I went for it. When it arrived, it was much bigger than I expected. The case it all comes in is not fitting in there, no matter what I do. However, I can take everything out and fit it inside (except for the oil bottle thing, it just won't fit with everything else).

So what is actually supposed to go in there? Is there some other kit that the military uses? Is it just all that stuff but the case it comes in is some kind of fake? You can see it comes with an ALICE clip so you can attach it to shit easily, but the case is far too large to actually put in the little buttstock compartment.

My favorite grip I've used was the MIAD followed by the BCM grip then the A2 then everything else.

The MOE seems to be the closest I could get to the MIAD and justify it. Though there are plenty of block I/I.5's with TD grips, but I've never used one. I'm not sure about the Ergo grip.
