The sights are overdeisgned, but as long as you have the flywheel in the right position and you don't fuck with it, it's fine. Just like other irons. Since you're shooting irons the extended sight radius and small viewed front sight post should actually have helped.

It might have been the old rifle, but just as easily might have been shitty mags. A lot of lazy armorers just keep a fuckload of mags in a big wood box and never actually check them. Learn up on what a go/no-go for a GI mag looks like and always check them before use- because sure as shit nobody is going to do it for you in the Army.

Optics are superior in results and should be used for combat and for finalized qual scores, but everybody should have the skills and knowledge to use and understand irons so that they can use any firearm they happen to get - like in your exact situation. Not having non-qual ranges where people refresh with irons makes me die inside.

A1.5 anon here. You could do a fixed rear, which does work but can be slow. You could try an MRO, which to my eyes (minor astigmatism) was better than a PRO. Or you could get a Trijicoon ACORN, accupower, or accupoint. I have an accupoint and like it.

Well, the time has finally come. After years and years of scoffing at Black Rifle Panic Buyers... I think it's time for me to buy an AR of my own. Unfortunately, I have no goddamn idea where to start. I don't have a budget, so much as a complete lack of understanding for what the budget *range* is - you know, the price you'd expect of an average to decent AR, and the price above which you're probably paying for a pony on the side of the receiver. Someone gave me a lower made by "Anderson Manufacturing," I have no idea what the quality is, or if it even makes sense to build an AR compared to just buying one complete.

Well you need to start off by deciding what you want your AR to do. Home defense? Plinking? Killing small animals ? Typical range you want to be to hit?

A good "do everything" setup is called a recce rifle. It's generally a 14.5-16" with a 1-4 or 1-6 variable power optic. Witcheranon has a good recce styled rifle.

Most everyone will advocate you build rather than buy, as it's usually cheaper, but if this is going to be a one time thing for you, and you won't have a use for the tools required to build, the I say you should buy.

What do you want to do with it, first off?
A basic AR is gonna cost around $5-550. Palmetto state is your friend. If you already got a Lower, they have build kits that include everything but the lower receiver. All you'd have to do is assemble the lower and slap the upper on.

Here's a pretty decent build kit. PSA's freedom line is about as cheap as you'd want to go. With this, all you'd need is a magazine to have a functioning AR.

There's plenty of YouTube content on assembling a lower receiver. Nsz58 is a good one to you. If you're not 100% sure what you'd like for a first build, go basic and make quality upgrades. Don't get every cheap accessory you can find just because they're cheap. You'll wind up with a hideous gun covered in accessories that don't do anything to enhance your performance. Figure out where you're lacking, and then modify things accordingly.
