I need to just get a PC. I've been trying doing stuff on a belt, but it gets pretty crowded even just having mag carriers for a handgun and rifle.

Suggestions, please.

>>

A chest rig. If your only spending ~200 then you won't even have nearly enough money to buy plates too.

Therefore its useless.
>>
>>33118946
I mostly meant $200 for just the carrier, not necessarily the whole setup.

>>33118938
Yeah, I read the pastebin, I just didn't know if there was any noticeable difference in quality at that price range
>>
>>33118966
I feel you, but youll get a good quality 2-300 range. Id just spend the extra 50 dosh and get something better. Especially if you have more money for plates.

http://www.r-karbid.com/katalog/razgruzochnye-sistemy/plejt-kerriery
>>
>>33119003
You dont neeeed inserts, but for rigidness it would help. They make dummy plates you can use and buy fairly cheap just so you have a study PC.

Fair warning though, if your running around with a plate carrier, and someones like oh dude what plates you running, and you say dummy plates, your gonna look like an asshat.

I understand your probably saving up dosh for them, so i get it, but wearing a plate carrier without plates is like buying a car but it doesnt have any wheels
>>
>>33118998
Is it good quality overall? Looks like a neat plate system
>>
>>33119061
So just buy a carrier and keep it in the closet until I get plates? If it's just a cool points thing, I don't mind wearing it sans plates until I get some.

>>33119036
Noted.

>>33119038
Thanks for the link.
>>
>>33119098
Well you can still wear it, but I mean its kinda the opposite of cool points. People get a PC but dont wear plates for cool points, then people are like??????????????????just get a chest rig.

You can wear it, fuck what other people think, aslong as you have the goal of getting real plates, but im just letting you know people are gonna see it and be like "just get a chest rig"

Id recommend you take the 200 and buy a haley d3cr and flatpack. Ditch the idea of plates all together. That's around 200$ and you'll have something that does everything you need, and is really good quality.

ayy /k/, for plates, is it worth going smaller or larger on plates if you don't fit one size explicitly?

say I have a 10" by 14" sapi measurement, should I go L (10.12x13.25) or go higher to XL (11x14)

While I know there's never a perfect fit, it's a weird mix of sizes

I agree. I'd be amazed if more than 10% of the guys on GQ have ever served in any military or LE capacity. I understand running cheap pouches for range or backpacking use, but guys going out on Gucci shit just to look cool on /k/ is amazing to me, it's the main reason I don't even open GQ threads anymore.
>>
>>33119931
Yeah, but precip collects in the hood when it's down and when they're up they can impair vision and/or hearing. I usually get garments with detachable hoods, store the hood in a waterproof pouch, and apply it to the jacket if I truly need it. Sometimes you really do need a hood.
>>
>>33121091
You'd be surprised, a lot of us here are thanked for our service. But it doesn't be matter if your mil or not. You sound exactly like someone who says "you don't need guns, I bet you guys aren't even military, wow such crazy people".

Not everyone here uses it for SHTF. If they do, let them, what's it to you? You still opened the thread. The name of it is g e a r q u e e r. You knew what it was when you clicked it. What did you fucking expect? Let me guess you think plate carriers should be banned because I don't neeeeed it right?

>>
>>33121147

Nope I don't think plate carriers should be banned. But I do find it funny when fags like you show up the range and can't even zero your rifle and give up after two boxes of your Federal green tips you bought from Wally World.

>>33121035
The conditions are present for civil conflict and are likely to be amplified in the next couple of years. I think what most people don't understand is how civil conflicts are actually waged. Pro-tip: it's not likely going to require pouches and velcro in the preliminary phases, but any sane man should be outfitted with a basic rifleman's kit as well as a few insurgent's tools, not least of which is a handgun, and even more important is an understanding of the construction of IEDs.

The big indicator is citizen confidence in public institutions. Look at how many blacks murdered cops while a Democrat was in the White House. My guess is after the next few Mike Brown-type shootings, where there probably won't even be grand juries and def. no DoJ investigations, some (probably white) leftist leaves a bomb where MAGA types hang out. Then the dominoes keep falling. Possibly. It depends on a lot of shit, but looking at some of the other civil conflict/political stability indicators (wealth inequality is a pretty big one), there is def. the possibility. I mean, look at how divided this place is. We don't even agree on what fucking reality is. I don't know how two people look at the same shooting where one thinks a cop just walked up and murdered some black, and the other understands the evidence proves the black beat and robbed an immigrant shopkeeper and then attempted to murder a cop, are going to come to some type of compromise.
>>
>>33121270
You're projecting a bit, friend.
Akg's less cancerous than arg but you're going to quickly change that if you keep shitting up the thread with "lolbutwhoneedgear". Reminder that your $2k ar and $2k converted saiga wouldn't stand a chance against someone with a street corner sks who knows how to shoot. By the "yeah but someone else can do it better so why spend money on better stuff" then you should probably just sell all your guns and ammo and pick up model trains as a hobby.
>>
>>33121294
Eh fuck it, I pay 700 for my iPhone and those poor guys are jumping outa their warehouse just to stop working. There are other options out there for sure tho.

First of all, I'm not the guy from AKG, I'm the guy who made the original post about 10% being mil/LE. I love gear, I was here before GQ was a thing and posting consistently in gear threads since 2011. I was into gear before I ever enlisted, trying to collect whatever I thought looked cool for airsoft.

The reason I left GQ isn't because I think buying gear is stupid, or people don't have a right to own it. It's because of how bandwagon GQ is, people hop on shit cause tripfags own it, or because some celebrity shooter endorses it, not because they think it'll fill a role they need filled. I used to trip a lot, until I saw people recommending gear simply because I had posted pictures with it. That's stupid no matter how you look at it. What's even worse is people then come and talk shit to each other trying to defend their purchases and put other people down with talking points they can't even truly comprehend because they've never needed to utilize their gear beyond simple range use. Eventually you realize GQ is the same circle jerk every thread, very rarely is there any new information or insightful discussion. It's just stale memes at this point, so forgive me for calling it out as such.

And before anyone says it, yes I legitimately have nothing better to do right now than post because I'm in fucking waiting to pack up and finally get out of Tatooine.
>>
>>33123304
Kind of disappointing that you see it that way.
I wouldn't take it so seriously. It's a thread on an anime posting site. That excuse doesn't normally fly, but just an idiom.

Take things a little less seriously next time and the shitposting and memes becomes funny and then you can stand the threads and realize there's a fair amount of useful posts every second thread that isn't being shitted up with talking about how the thread's shit.
>>
>>33123328
Bruh, i've been here since 2011, the memes are all repeats senpai. The useful insight is the same shit circulated over and over that was produced by the same 3 people since we got tired of posting it over and over in every thread. None of those people browse anymore.

Welcome to the club.
Gear threads have always been the same. Stop using the rose tinted glasses and get some better eyepro bruh :^)

The threads are casual at best and shouldn't be taken seriously. There's some pretty good content that's spawned out of them. GT does his own thing but I always like to think that because of the uptick in /GQ/ posts about half a year ago he started doing some fantastic gear video's. I'm probably wrong, but still.

Just take it easy.
>>
>>33123355
Before ronin and tyr shittery there was zero duty belt discussion. Posters are much more diverse now and you have less retards asking if condor and AR500 is a good deal. It's not just squid posting his same 6 pictures anymore.
>>
>>33123388
>>33123393
It's not rose tinted glasses there used to be quite a few combat vets who posted in these threads. None of them post anymore because of how AIDs GQ is.

There's discussion, between people asking airsofters what their opinion is on gear "so they can handle business when SHTF". None of it is constructive, and even worse it's not funny or entertaining. It's try hards spending their pay check on meme gear for meme scenarios they haven't put any real thought into. Pic related is the modern state of GQs "Actual discussions."

Yeah you're right. No one knows anything. Would you bless us with your knowledge oh gear lord?

Not a fan of shtf, if that's your thing then it's all cool but I'm not gonna use it as a reason to justify my gear. I do it as a hobby because I think it's cool, and do use my belt shooting and running drills. I'm .mil but they won't let me use my gear on deployment anyways, at least not most of it so it's quite literally just a hobby for me but I see no reason to have a problem with people who use their gear for being a better shooter, better in combat, or just at the range / hobby.

Your posting about how /gq/ is shit now compared to muh nostalgia is what's making /gq/ shit recently, that and all the "luludontneedgearbecauseX". Stop.
>>
>>33123557
Really, I thought what's making it shit is all the airsofters recommending shit they have no idea about. My problem with GQ is it's actually harmful in many ways. People come in here looking for recommendations on what to buy and they get memed by a bunch of retards shilling hot garbage they don't need. So instead of buying something cheap that would work for them they buy a meme kit they'll realize is stupid and try to flip on GQ in 3 months, that's why you see so many WANNA BUY MY KIT posts these days. Even when it was literally /soc/ it wasn't actively harming new shooters.

Someone asks for a recommendation for a chest rig and you'll get 3 posts screaming D3CR MAN, ITS THE BEST before anyone asks "What are your needs and what are you looking to get out of this chest rig?"
>>
>>33123580
To add, we have a pastebin but no one bothers to talk about what makes anything better for a certain kind of shooter verses something else on the list. People shill LBT 6094s (which I love) but no one explains why they may be better than another option to people asking for a recommendation. Contrary to what you suggest, in my experience any real discussion is quickly shut down by memers who circle right back to GET THIS, NOT THAT BECAUSE SOMEONE I SAW ON YOUTUBE HAS IT!

>People shill LBT 6094s (which I love) but no one explains why they may be better than another option
We literally had a discussion yesterday for a guy considering the 6094 and an APC. Most people suggested the APC.

If you're looking for serious advice fuck off to arfcom or fightlight, Gearsoc for collecting and devtsix for reenacting. That said gq is a great resource for getting to know what's new. All you saw was dedicated PC's back then, and it's great to see how the industry as a whole has changed. You can't complain about everyone being super serious on a forum that does this
>>
>>33123615
but it wasn't. It was just memeing among good friends, harmless banter. Now its try hard autists screeching at people. I don't go to dedicated gear forums anyways, I just liked GQ because it was an offshoot of the dumb goofy forum I loved. The problem now is that it isn't goofy fun, its people who know jack shit trying to act hard to people who are coming into dip their toe in the gear river for the first time who play it off like they don't care when they really do. Back then it was people with real experience unabashedly shit posting for fun. Now it's just airsofters trying to mask their lack of knowledge with stale memes while unintentionally spewing shit.

>People shill LBT 6094s
Like
>>33123615
Said.

Most people including myself being an owner of a 6094 recommended the APC. Most times people ask about gear a fair amount of people first ask what they're using it for and will base recommendations off that.

Example: If your a bbwarz player that wants Johhny's first plate carrier then AWS OPC all the way. First it's got most if not all of the goodies of a 6094, and it's dirt cheap as plate carrier's go. More importantly, sometimes it's not the most important thing for an anon to know the inside and outs of everything they're looking to buy or pages on pages of comparisons between stuff (Though, I'm first and foremost guilty of writing paragraph walls of text). Sometimes people are just looking for some quick insight and a recommendation.

Like I said. Casual. This isn't one of those extremely cringy .mil discussion forums where every poster thinks that their opinion should be held to the highest standards. I see literally none of that here. I have yet to see many posters that actually get serious responses to claim to be an authoritative source on stuff being posted.

>>
>>33123825
If you actively follow gq, you will find fresh opinions, they just don't happen every ten seconds as you would like.

When someone comes here and asks about certain shit, most people try to give helpful answers and tries to get at the root of what will help them.

WE HAVE LIKE 7 GOD DAMN PASTEBINS WITH INFO with shit that ranges from dirt cheap to very expensive. Even an ifak contents bin (although someone needs to add God damn chest seals, I have bitched about this the past couple of threads)

My point is why the fuck would you come in here and bitch about how it is in here, when it's obvious you have been in a gq thread like 5 times in the past 6 months. These threads move at about one a day to sometimes 2 a day. Not a bunch of people post in here and so we constantly bullshit about the ongoing shit and sometimes get to have constructive conversations about gear, but it's hard to since the same people have already had the same convo a hundred times.

This. Steer fucking cleear of the camel back jumpable bags. When I worked at Airborne school we used the Talon j and they used the same attachment system where instead of Single point release harness the attachment system is sewn into the bottom of the bag. its convenient as fuck but once the red and green attaching loops start to fray, its done even after the riggers tried to fix them it never worked out well.

Depending on how much you jump you might be able to get a few years out of it. Its just such a glaring issue that I would never spend money on a camelback jumpable pack.

okay. Pig Bombers are made off webbing. That makes them a tough fucking pouch.
Pig bombers are slim as fuck, there's no wasted material or space, so while it fits gi mags, pmags, and lancers perfectly, H&K poly mag users can get fucked.
Pig bombers have great retention. Even though there's no elastic or kydex or magnets, with the flaps open, it will hold a mag upside down. Obviously use the flaps. Due to the minimal velcro design, it's easier to open and close than a usgi mag pouch. Reindexing is easy because there's no elastic band to fight like a usgi mag pouch. You just rock it in at an angle.

Pig bombers are also fairly cheap compared to other mag pouches

that being said, multicam ones, because the pattern is printed on webbing, does look a little weird next to your other multicam pouches

It's not. I know you're Army, I know you're NG, and I know you're something something mechanized.

I have no idea if say, you've been to a civilian or military course on advanced shooting, armorery stuff. Hell even the stuff they dish out in WLC or ALC is heads above what the "average" person around here knows.

Then there are the many informally studied skills and certs you may have outside the military.

Literally just asking so I can figure out kinda what drives your gear setup and your kind thinking.

With mech shit, you are probably a lot more experienced with night driving, securing the inside of a vehicle and organizing it, mechanical field expedient stuff in the dark, getting stuck vehicles out, mounted ambush response, I dunno a bunch of other shit. Some of it at least applicable to civ vehicles. This can also feed into your gear setup even if you don't actively recognize it.

Don't let the "kek le u are cosplay" anons shit this up.

I have never taken a civilian shooting course.
that being said, I've decided to take the money I was going to spend playing bbwarz with the other tripfags to attend one. Pathsofglory turned me onto these courses a long time ago to help find deficiencies in your shooting, but I've never had the money or equipment to attend until recently

I haven't done a lot of night stuff. Thing about the guard is that due to time and money there will be deficiencies in our training that we'll be forced to make up in the short train up period prior to a deployment. Also, as a dismount instead of crew member, I didn't spend as much time working on the Bradleys. I know how to turn it on, set up the radios, install the barrel and other basic shit.

I don't know about unstucking a bradley, but I know how to total one, just drive into a tree a little too big driving 50 hours a hour in the woods.

mounted ambush response. When they say drop hatch, get fucking ready because we have to fly out of the back. That bradley is a sitting duck while it's unloading the troops, so we've done lots of mounting and dismounting drills. The most applicable way to apply this to civilian vehicles: you have a semi-bullet resistant box that moves really fast. Your best bet is to hit the gas and go. If you have to leave the vehicle, practice getting out the opposite side of the drivers seat, from the drivers seat in an expedient manner.

>>33126913
get 1.75, the actual belt part of the tyr is a 1.75, even if they don't advertise it as such and it's a perfect fit. when you don't have the velcro attach the holster will slide up and down the molle section because the molle section is super thin. I'll have to run some drills to see flop or wobble, but the holster stays still when I draw it, unlike the safarialand 070.

Consider just getting a beanie, and a nice pair of sun glasses. Thats really all you need. If you really really need a hat, consider your environment.

If your looking for shade, consider a boonie, to prevent sun burn on your face/neck. If your inna jungle and just dont wanna wear shades but need shade protection, consider a trail running hat, or a fishing hat. Most are light weight and are breathable.

If your just looking for a hat, id get the Patagonia trucker. Very little autism, and you can wear it in a million places, without saying "HEY IM A TACTICAL GUY WITH TACTICAL NEEEEEDS", But if you wear it innawoods, shooting, or larping, it kinda fits in as an ourdoors piece.

If you want to go maximum operator just get a normal baseball cap with your favorite team, not a flat brim either. Wear a normal curve brim hat.

My gear is set up for maximizing my utility as an officer (referring to my time as scout pl as that's more relevant than my time as a tanker). So I'm that pog-ass motherfucker running around with a fat admin pouch filled with arts and crafts (markers, maps, extra notepads, report skeletons, sector sketches, extra batteries because fucking Joe didn't bring extra or pmcs his gear). A good mbitr pouch, and batteries for that. My shit looks ridiculous compared to what you see posted mostly because my magazine pouches are obviously not the priority in my set up. Combination of "scouts should never fire a shot" and "officer job is radio, joe failed if the pl has to shoot"

Kit as a tanker was awesome. Just a chicken vest, a nomex onesie, cigarettes, lighter, and an m9. I'm left handed so I preferred drop leg holster over shoulder holster (harder for right handed to climb in and out and sit in the tc hatch with right side drop leg). Everything fit into the thousands of large pockets the tanker onsie I normally had to carry on my kit as a scout.

1 box mre=12 individual meals=4 days worth for 1 individual eating 3xday

Realistically it will last you 6-7 days though as operating you don't have time to eat.
>>
>>33130441
I wouldnt say all are like that, the TAD ranger is more of a fleece material now adays than the synthetic strechy stuff yours looks like its made of. And other brands like arcteryx are completely different

hard to really make a comparison with any soft shell though since its such a large term. Yours looks like it would be great for a snow environment that doesn't have heavy snowfall active. Some water protection but mostly it looks like a mid layer as far as warmth. Which can be enough if your doing .mil stuff imo (until you stand post then ull freeze).

Ive tried one on that was pretty much like yours before and it was nice, no complaints, I can see it being very useful. I just find it more cost effective to go to more 'outdoors' stuff now. If you want really good quality stuff, its hard to find a jacket that is super good at everything all at once. So I prefer to layer now, and IMO if your gonna spend the dosh on nice layers, might as well get the non patches edition so you can wear it in public (without looking like a boot or something)

Also I know people worry about layering sometimes, becuase they figure owning a mid layer and a goretex shell is more weight and clutter compared to just one jacket. But if you buy the good quality stuff, you wont run into problems like that. They are very effective.

Calorie wise, MREs have enough for the entire day. Breaking one open, I totaled the calories to be 1280 calories if you eat everything in the Menu 20 (Spaghetti with beef), now assuming you supplement it with stuff like cliff bars or snacks, you should be good for energy for the entire day.

I laid in the snow for an ambush with this on for a few hours, but had a thermal shirt under it as well. Its a work jacket thats being pressed into service as an outdoor jacket since the .mil stuff comes to an end within the year, and the stuff that allowed me to wear this ended a year ago. I try to use the issue layers but the silkies arent as good as these thermals I got from Wal Mart for $20. Either way when Im back in FL this will probably chill in the closet.

I would never have thought of that. Thanks.

I'm sure I would ration myself to 1-2 MREs/day, depending on how much breakfast sucked. I've lived off them before, while doing strenuous exercise. They contain a LOT of calories, and I don't expect Fallujah-levels of operating. Just an emergency food source to keep the body warm until I've driven clear of habbenings.

It surpasses more than for a meal, thats why I said supplement it with snacks and shit. And unless you are actively engaging in citywide combat e.g. no one here anytime lately or soon for that matter, you probably wont need any more than an MRE or two a day.

Good eye I barely noticed it in the picture.

It worked great as an FM radio, tried the local repeater and no one but someone transmitting CW/ Morse responded. I really brought it in case of an actual emergency but seeing as how no one transmitted that might be a moot point.

But it got the Austin radio stations really, really well and the battery lasted from 1300 yesterday til 0630 this morning, with only one little bar missing from the battery indicator.

I spied on people (mostly some hikers and fishermen) with the little scope and was going to write absurd field notes, but decided that would be awkward to explain.

Yeah its the 5r and no, its the stock battery, I brought a spare though but never even used it. All I have on the radio is a handmic and a Nagoya 771.

So what was this event? Because it seems to imply high speed operations, but little details like that bladetech brace really make my neurons fire.

And yet another reason why IOTVs are trash. Just give everybody plate carriers with 6x6 side plates and clean should pads and cumberbunds. Put seltbeat cutters as part of the IFAK items and voila "quick release" plate carriers without a bunch of stupid cords and shit inside.
>>
>>33131066
>IOTV is trash
Agreed, thats why I used a plate carrier all four years.

>6x6 side plates
We dont even wear side plates, the option for the carriers would be nice but too cumbersome.

>Put seatbeat cutters as part of the IFAK items
Issued as RFI item already, a benchmade strap cutter.

The fact of the matter is leadership is retarded because they think some overly cumbersome armor will save lives, when in reality mobility and violence of action afforded by just using a plate carrier can mitigate that. Someone high up in the chain still thinks the IOTV idea is cool, so we wills tick to something like that until someone with some say gets to scrap that. Now that we are moving away from UCP, the chance is high for new armor procurement but we will see.

>We dont even wear side plates, the option for the carriers would be nice but too cumbersome.

People who deploy do.

>Issued as RFI item already, a benchmade strap cutter.

I know, but repurposing them as a "medical" item in peoples' minds means no more complaints about a lack of quick release.

>The fact of the matter is leadership is retarded because they think some overly cumbersome armor will save lives, when in reality mobility and violence of action afforded by just using a plate carrier can mitigate that.

I know. IOTVs are especially shit, even compared to other full armor carriers. And the soft armor used in them is bulky shit compared to what's out there. The way armor is treated is complately backwards- plate carriers should be the default, and full armor vests should require a waiver with a justification letter sent up by the CO level leadership. Troops are overloaded with shit. An 80lb max limit (really 60 is better for riflemen, but M240 gunners and shit are just going to carry more) should be the most weight being carried by anybody in the platoon for a 1-day patrol without a special justification.
