Practicality is the connection. What are you going to need more- NVGs or water?

You should know better. I remember when GQ threads were about practicality, information and honest reviews. Now its about tripfags reposting the same kit pics endlessly to show off their disposable income purchases. Its more like the popular slut club in highschool comparing brand name clothing than anything else now. Practicality is out the window.

so when you gonna start doing that? If you don't like how the majority of Trips behave, then become a shining beacon of what you want. Start posting your shit and thoughts.

as for water, its so painfully fucking obvious to most that it doesn't even need mentioned.

You want a review

very form fitting to the hand when you have the proper size selected. Also very thing material allowing full range of motion and limited loss of feeling in fingers. Down side to that is that the material is very thin and tends get holes worn in it very quickly. Point in case, my finger nails on my index fingers have worn holes through the glove tips. Overall 7/10

Building my war belt for a class later this year and have hit a snag on holsters.

Should I go with a level 1 retention holster or level 2 like the XST series from G-Code?

Yes, with the screws they sent me. The worst part is was when I called them the chick in customer support made it sound like this was an issue they get a lot.

>>33104390
They look that way because the first time the screws literally stripped the holster's threading off and thats how they fell out. The loc tite-ing of the holster shouldn't cause screws to literally snap in half.

I'm honestly amazed that the screws would snap in half you would think that the plastic would fail first, I'm not too familiar with Gcode, are the screws metal or plastic, either way it seems your not loosing too much if you avoid them.

but mounted horizontally? This one seems to fit all my requirements great but just looks a bit too tall and floppy for mounting on my riggers belt.
>>
>>33105122
>Why is your gun so rusty
It only looks that way because of the bright flash and close zoom. You can always find at least some rust under careful inspection, because of the salt from your hands. Once it develops you basically have to remove the finish to get rid of it completely, or it gets into cracks that make it impossible. As long as you keep it oiled it should not get worse and you should be fine.

What's better? Mayflower APC or 6094?
>>
>>33105601
>Better
They're basically both the same thing, just that the apc's significantly less expensive. Both have the praised kangaroo pouch, both have hook and loop id panels on the front, both have good cummerbunds, though the APC lacks a separate front radio/mag pouch so if you mount your radio up front then with the apc you'll have to buy a seperate pouch. The 6094 also has a pocket on the inside on either side to put shit in. Not sure what you' really put in there but it adds some material and rigidity as well as some padding. So if you're using side plates the extra padding is nice.

The apc also has those clips to attatch a chest rig, though no frontal hook or loop so you'll have to buy that seperate as well. Apc also has an "admin" pouch similar to a kangaroo pouch right under the hook and loop on the front above the kangaroo pouch. Not that useful but stil.

The 6094's cummerbund is superior in almost every way including adjustment so if slim plate carrier wasn't your intention and you're running side plates then apc. If you don't have like $400 or whatever it is to spurg on a plate carrier but still want literally all the rest of the functionality and build of a 6094 then apc for sure.

So it turns out the BFG micro IFAK is absolutey, ant-tier micro. Well built and incredibly low profile, had to order some compact hyfin seals and a compact pressure bandage to be able to squeeze in there though.

DESU I'd mostly use it for bbwarz
>>
>>33103423
post practical information and honest reviews then guy.
>>
>>33105754
Then the 6094 won't have anything really useful to you ie better comma cable routing, better hydration tube routing, front radio/extra mag pouch and better side plate cummerbund.

For bbwarz unlesa you really just want the bigboii PC then try a chest rig or something. Unless it's milsim and you have to have a certain get up or whatever.
>>
>>33105800
I already have a chestrig. I just want a plate carrier in multimeme shit for tanside and so I can transition to real steel easily once I get my AR.

Brb throwing up a bit

For bbwarz it's literally an arena shooter so moving fast is literally all you wanna do. Since there's no danger of being ded or anything you don't need an ifak plates or any of the really heavy stuff. Just mags. I know I'm preaching to the crowd but unless you want to spend a fuck ton of money then maybe get something for bbwarz first that's less expensive and figure out what you actually want / need for actual gat time. I'd reccomend the mayflower because of the chest rig clips and you can throw it right on there. You'll have to buy a molle hook and loop panel, though.

Wrong, I'm complaining that /GQ/ turned in to a fashion show rather than solid advice and help for new guys to outfit themselves from well educated and experienced anons. Maybe these trips should spend more time helping people out on the forum and less time reposting the same fucking ten pictures of their gear that hasn't changed in years in gear threads. Maybe they should also drop their fucking trips until they begin to do anything other than circlejerk to each other and lap up praise from poorfag 19yos on /k/ for having disposable income.

Not surprised, but yeah that looks pretty small. Not bad for a blow out kit, but youll legit only have the esstionals in there and maybe not enough beyond the first 2-3 minutes of casualty care.

Also tried on some arcteryx stuff today. Atom LT fit nicely in S, then I tried on a beta SL in small. Holy fuck that thing was huge on me (And i wore it over the ATOM to test layering.

Ill likely be going Atom LT in S and then Alpha SL in XS.

Hey there Mr. Militiaman!

Some thoughts: If you filled out all your rifle mag pouches, the amount on your chest would be absolutely cray. I might instead suggest removing those pouches and getting a 6-cell bandoleer instead. That way you aren't carrying an extra 6 mags EVERY.SINGLE.TIME you put on your gear, but you have those extra mags for easy and expedient grab& go if you really want them.

That cleaning kit brush is just plain asking to get rekt. I'd put it somewhere it was exposed to the elements raw like that.

You are presumably right handed/right-side shooting. If that's true, I'd put the night vision over the left eye. That allows you to have night vision for distance, but be able to go to close quarters, white-light driven shooting more easily.

By moving the extra rifle mags off the chest, you now have more room for the remaining pouches and can more easily find a way to slide them to the side. This will let you be a little less of a doughboy. I am HUUUUGGGEEE on putting pistol mags on the same belt the pistol is mounted on (the bullets for a thing should be with the thing that shoots them), but I can only REEEEE so much.

I'd love to see the contents of the bag. It looks like a big bag 4 u.
>>
>>33106465
Pretty sweeping generalization though. Trips are generally quick to help if it's something they are knowledgeable in/on. The problem is boredom reigns supreme so to kill time the same old OC gets posted.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tired of all the clothing talk/posting, especially third world milsurp, but it's gear, /k/ and /gq/ so whatever.

Hell, the trips are the ones putting together all the pastebins FOR the newcomers, pretty sure they/we are more than happy to help where able.

>>33106465
Yeah I was expecting and wanting nothing more than a blowout kit for a bad day at the range/whatever. Was expecting it to be small as well, but damn it's tiny. I've got gloves, gauze and an NPA on one side. Have a compact pressure bandage and a two pack of the compact seals on order for the other side. Will supplement with some tap and gauze if able.

Was surprised the smaller of my existing pressure bandages wouldn't squeeze in though. Love that it will fit in perfectly with the low vis belt I'm putting together though, shouldn't create any bulk in the rear.
>>
>>33106495
guide and mentor what? the information is right fucking there in the sticky. If a dude's got questions, he's got to ask them. If it's a dumb question we'll bully him. If I don't know the answer to his question, I'm not going to just make shit up so he has a (you). I'm not going to spend my whole fucking day googling it either, because he could do that for himself.

did you just assume his hand orientation? he has two extra mag pouches on his right side, indicating his left handedness. Stop being fucking hand bigot reeeee.

Widespread adoption and use in both the current wars and police use combined with an extremely intuitive retention system which forces the user to obtain a proper firing grip in order to defeat the retention system.

If you have a reasonably common pistol (Beretta, Colt/1911, FN, Glock, HK, S&W, SIG...), there's a solid retention holster available from Safariland.

Buy a 6360 and get it over with.

Nobody here owes anything to you or anybody else. I come here and post the same gear I have and when I get something new I post it and talk about it, but most of the time I shitpost like everyone else, because, like everyone else, as much as I wish it were, it's not my job to spend $1000 a week on quality gear and test it out and post reviews all day. Do you not know where you are? You don't pay to come here. The reason this general exists is because the other generals would get mad when we would take 80-100 posts in a thread talking about what we talk about here, and rightly so. Most of us here are in arg or akg and other threads too, and it's no ones job in arg to buy a new gun every month and post new pics of shooting it every day and throwing it in the mud.

Go do the shit you are talking about here every fucking day, and we will all give you a round of applause and then tell you to go shove a dick in your ass. Quit being a bratty 8 year old.

This looks like a fun thread.

Just got back early from my trip, friend fucked up leg super bad on a rock when climbing down a hill. Slipped and cut I'd guess at least an inch down in the middle of the cut. Cleaned it, pressure wrapped it and held his leg above him while buddy satphoned in medical help. Didn't take pictures because I forgot my phone at home (go figure, but it's not like there was service anyways), we were close to a road thank god so it was maybe 10 minutes until paramedics arrived after we took him to the road. He's doing fine now but we figured we should all go home so I flew back today. The North's amazing at this time of year because it's just starting to warm up and there isn't crazy wind yet like in Spring so it's amazing weather for hiking and camping.

OTGhex ADRmkIII or whatever one can come with a thumb drive. then a G-Code duty drop setup.

>M16A1 clone
Those two are completely at odds with each other. On top of this I can almost guarantee you'll fuck up an M16A1 clone if it's your first build.

Also, using the word real steel is cancerous. Guns are guns, airshit is a toy gun. Real steel is lvlcap tier.

>>33105990
DESU BBWarz isn't even sport tier IMO. It can be fun, but I wouldn't call it a sport. Golf is more of a sport than airshit.

IMO they just seem pointless, Never had my hand smashed where gloves would have helped, and they might help with thorns and prickers but anything else (depending on how thick the glove is) your dinked anyway. I could see their merit if you were around a lot of broken glass or sharp metal but other wise they just seem like a hindrance to me.
Not trying to argue just genuinely curious (no homo)

aw yea just got my fastmags in and they are great. Reindexing is solid and the adjustable retention is nice but I have it on the lowest currently. I think they work better with my pmags than regular GI mags. I might have to do something about the lettering on the outside maybe sand it off or something more drastic

Now if AWS would get around to shipping my belt that would be tremendous

Skeletor and to anyone whos interested, I found the atom LT for a good price on amazon, was worried it was a fake

contacted backcountry and they price match amazon. They are a legit seller too so no worries on their end. Price matched 190 from 259. And one time I ordered something from them and had to return, no problems at all, great people to work with.

10/10 would recommend

ended up going with pic related, I wanted something that wasnt too tacticool. Yeah I know the green will give away my position. fuck it.

Yeah, I mean im only really worried about it if like shtf than id actually care more. But until then im not really doing any operating anymore, so I dont need actually need this to conceal.

Do you have a shell? If so do you find that they run a big? I tried on the Beta LT in my size and it was like really big. I figured it would be a bit big for more layers, but the arm length was significantly longer. Might try out some mammut stuff too. I mean im just gonna buy a black goretex shell, so i figure fuck it.

Right now im leaning Alpha SL, Just gonna get it in XS incase those are sized up too. I wear the atom in S no problem. Idk why the shell is such a difference.

the Shells are designed to be your outermost layer and as such will fit a bit bulky. personally I prefer if the arms are a bit longer so they dont get too tight or run back down your forearm when performing tasks
>>
>>33107924
Yeah, thats what I figured, but this shit was like too long. Idk, ill probably try a XS and see what happens. No worries can always return.

Im trying to juggle building an outdoors/hiking/backpacking set up with building a shooting/larp/shtf kit. So its a constant battle of debating stuff. Im trying to buy as many items that are cross overs as possible, that work for both.

Not to start another round of back and forth shitfits, but if you guys could segment the extended milsim talk into a different thread, I'd appreciate it a kindness. I know "milsim uses the gear", but that kind of logic extends to every k/ related activity. It disrupts the flow of gear talk to have a bunch of off topic specific milsim inside talk. IMO.

Now that I got my fastmags it is time to order pistol pouches. Getting the esstac KYWI pouches with the 1.75" belt loops to attach to my AWS belt that should arrive sometime within the next decade.

Any reasons not to do this? I like the kydex retention from the KYWIs and will be adding a little bit of velcro inside the loops to keep them from sliding when I take the belt off.

Afghanka and Mabuta are sewing patterns, just like the Crye cut is a sewing pattern. I suppose I should have said cut because on this board people usually say "cut" instead of "pattern" when they mean how the uniform is sewn together. Afghanka was general issue for Soviet troops in Afghanistan in the 80s, and Mabuta was the better version issued to VDV/special troops with the stomach pockets removed from the blouse and the pants cargo pockets moved to the front of the leg so things wouldn't jiggle so much. Afghanka was the Soviet answer to BDU and Mabuta was the Soviet answer to RAID-modded BDU.

There's a difference between no melt no drip and the fabric Fortrex uses.

5050 nylon cotton or 65 35 polyester are no drip no melt but aren't the insane ripstop and hard as fuck to tear that Fortrex FR combat stuff uses.

I don't know what Trllz buys but I hope it's at least 5050 nyco since that's basically the standard and is a lot safer around fire.

50/50 is ripstop, at least in cryes. Drifire uses fortrex for the M81 cryefire and normal drifire combat sets. The thing that seperates Cryefires from cryes is the insane flame retardent capacity.
>>
>>33112307
Oh it is ripstop? Neat. What do cryefires do differentially that makes them in the realm of flame retardent?

I didn't know that paddles counted as the kind of weapons one would discuss on /k/. I mean, all they do is leave you with a sore ass. I *definitely* didn't know they made holsters for them.
>>
>>33112389
It's cut and made by crye with drifire's fortrex fabric. I don't know dude fuckin jew magic, but it doesnt melt or drip, and it passovely retards flame. It won't catch on fire at all.
>>
>>33112422
Well it will obviously catch fire, almost everything will oxidize eventually ESPECIALLY plastics or carbon polymers like nylon cotton poly.

That's pretty cool, guess that's why they're $800 a set.

I can't get a modern kevlar helmet because reasons. Would an old steel helmet be an acceptable replacement, or am I better off without?
>>
>>33113038
Steel's heavy as fuck, can you just not get an NIJ rated helmet or is it "No Kevlar". If you can buy steel and want the NIJ then just buy an M88.
>>
>>33113038
Why can't you get a kev helmet?
>>
>>33113038
Get a bump helmet instead, as the other anon said, steel is heavy as fuck.

No Helmet
>no bump protection
>no ballistic protection
>no mounting capabilty
>Lightest (obviously)

bump helmet
>bump protection
>no ballistic protection
>can mount stuff
>(2nd Lightest)

Kevlar helmet
>bump protection
>ballistic protection
>can mount stuff
(3rd lightest)

Steel helmet
>bump protection (assuming you got good pads and not leather strap)
>ballistic protection
>prob no mounting capability depending on how old it is
>heaviest by far

I agree with >>33114010, get a bump. There just aren't any steels you're going to want to wear for more than a few hours at a time without taking off and you're really not going to get very good ballistic protection unless you go with something super gucci, and most of those aren't steel, just some other metal like titanium.

The more I think about it the more I realize for most people camo is a meme. I mean unless your larping or camo is your autism hobby, it doesn't really make much sense. You can buy non camo pants that are far more durable and weather resistant in a matte color for cheaper or better quality for the same price. Not to mention you can actually wear that shit more places than camo.

I guess if your planning for SHTF it might be useful, but unless your operating innawoods its gonna be kinda pointless. Aslong as you arent wearing a big orange sweatshirt I think most people will be fine

I mean does camo really make a difference if your standing in the middle of the road at your neighborhood checkpoint?
>>
>>33114379
Pretty much. Camo is my autism hobby.
>>
How important is body armor really? I used to consider it essential, but after experience with it I don't see it as worth the significant cost and weight. What are the odds its going to be more of an asset than a liability for me in a gunfight?
>>
>>33114535
What are the odds of you getting shot?
>>
>>33114535
This is all personal opinion. But heres my idea. If your in a gunfight then of course you want it. As long as its not drastically hindering your movement and ability. Which if you do it right, and are in shape, it wont at least for short periods of time. If your a fatbody then obviously armor isnt going to help much becuase youll die from a heart attack or something stupid once you run.

>inb4 implying anyone on here is in shape

If your a shooter/hunter/larper there really is no point to armor. Your not engaging in direct gunfights, so whats the point of lugging around extra weight? Besides maybe the cool factor if your a larper. But I mean its stupid.

Now if your prepping for SHTF you have to make that call. IMO Im not going to use armor. I don't forsee myself getting into gunfights everyday, patrolling, doing offensive operations, etc.

The thing is, people spend a stupid amount of money on plates and plate carrier, and most people buy mediocre brand shit, becuase they feel like they need it. When they could take that money and buy REALLY nice chest rigs/weather resistant clothing, ammo, training, etc.

If I was rich as fuck, yeah id probably do it. But im not, so id rather spend my money on a super nice hard shell jacket, than an okay plate carrier. And I know some people will be triggered by that, but the reality is that if SHTF being a fkin tard will likely get you killed before a raider

(IE. Being un healthy, hypotherma, bugging out like fallout and dying becuase you cant live on 5 packets of ramen that you have in your BOB)
>>
>>33114590
you're a smart fucker, you're spot on. I don't know the first thing about survival, but I do know that mobility = survivability, and you're far more likely to die due to exposure, etc rather than catching a HP center mass. I've bounced back and forth between getting a JPC, but I think I may just settle for a belt setup or something. Like you, if I had the disposable income I'd buy Crye errythang, Airframes, etc just for shits and giggles. But in reality, dumping $400 into ammo and training is much more practical than buying a plate carrier.
>>
>>33114535
It won't be worth it if you never get shot.

It might be worth it if you get shot.

I see the $400 minimum that it takes to get ceramics and a plate carrier better spent on training. I also don't see the point in spending $150 per plate to carry around an extra 16-18 pounds in plates and carrier.

If I get plates I'm not giving a fuck about AP .30-06, I'm getting sub 5 pound level 3"+" that can take m193 m855 and m80. I really do no reason to not go that route

Hint: it was all Chinese. Go on Ebay and search for Chinese military surplus. There's tons of cheap Chinese field gear if you're willing to pay for shipping from Szechuan or Hong Kong. Also, their trademark pith helmets that they actually made in Vietnam are still in production and can be had new for around 30 bucks American. Vietnam surplus AK ammo will never be imported to any country outside Africa because everybody else is scared of some leftovers from Eldest Son.

Personally two is my number, a lot of times ive had one not work, and you cant take it off and try again, you just have to add another. So, I carry one on my IFAK, and one on my kit.

Also marking the time on a TQ is a meme. Just write it on their forehead as "T1639" The TQ will most likely be saturated in blood so its better to just put it where its far more noticeable.

just my 2 cents
