9/10 times I see another AK at my local range it's one of those fucking things. Their owners invariably say the dumbest shit.

>yeah bro, got a great deal on this, picked it up for 850
>you shoot 5.45? no point now that its all banned
>I doubt that thing could reach out farther, have you ever seen a stamped AK wobbling in slow motion? (said this to me shooting my SGL21 at 200 yards)
>Whose target is that? Oh, yours? (proceeds to magdump into 25yrd berm because he didn't bring his own)

Ah that gas block angle does look funky tho. Its not quite 90 degrees.
>>
>>33112254
No it doesn't. Stop
>>
>>33112165
I figured it out. I wanted to say the gas block was a cast AKM gas block but that was too big of a stretch and the AKM gas block is even more sloped than that one. It's an early AK-74 gas block, the very first variation. This also explains the elongated magwell dimple and the milled gas tube retainer lever. It's just another one of the old AK-74's that got refurbished into an AK-74M. But this is one of the oldest ones I've seen.

Here's the really cool part. The muzzle brake, the very tip of it, where the ring of the bayonet slips over. Notice how it's shorter than usual? that's because it's an original half-moon AK-74 brake, the very first pattern. Even with the refurbished 74(M)s they usually ended up with modern replacement muzzle brakes because they're such an easily removable part. That is a very interesting rifle.

The rifle on the left looks like it could be the same deal.

>>33111964

>>33112288
I wouldn't have been able to point out the magwell dimple without just assuming the entire gun is a conversion of an earlier AK, but the gas block was kind of obvious. Also, if you look, the guy behind him also has a first generation AK74 gas block.

>>33112208
Honestly it depends on what you really want. I'd say go with converted no matter what because you're getting a gun that's more in-line with the military model, but between a 7.62x39 Norinco and a Saiga what really matters is if you want to go full tacticool (Arsenal) or if you want to stick with a more traditional AK that's got some rare-factor inside the US (Norinco).

Personally I'd take a Norinco just to be different, but I'm a flaming faggot so take that as you will.

>>33113599
>Caring about the condition of a magazine
Pretty autistic of you, anon. It's going to wear over time with any actual use, so why bother buying one that's completely mint when you're going to do nothing but lower the value by using it?

Also if they're 7.62x39 you can get them for $27 off RusMilitary or, if you know someone from Russia, for like $4.

Go back to gear queer and AKT. It was nice not having you around the last couple of threads.
>>
>>33113748
>Anons always fuck up when making new general threads.
Except I'm anon and started /akg/ and generally start most threads.
And there are a few others that have no issue with properly formatting new threads.

I just can't always start new threads, so I do rely on other's help, and unfortunately it's not always as consistent as one could hope for.

>>33113748
>I think it's to show how small of a community /akg/ is outside of tripfags.
This is mostly true, but there's a small group of anons who are staples in our general, too.
Daewoo's buddy is one I can think of off hand, and there's BlackMat anon who has given us our pastebin as well.
>Sorry other anons I'm leaving out, you matter too.

I've considered becoming a tripfag, but those who need to know who I am, know.

So why are you a tripfag?
>>
>>
>>
>>33113837
I understand that an anon started /akg/ but the problem is the quality isn't there with anons across the board which is why tripfags tend to be held to better standards when starting threads (obviously shitpost them if they do it wrong, or just ignore their general and start a new one with the proper format if they fuck it up).

Don't forget about Witcher Anon and a few other staple anons we see in every thread.

I'm a tripfag simply because I want to be. It started off as a meme and kept going because my presence did (and still does) make some assmad. I figure it also allows anons who dislike me to filter me as well. There's no realistic reason to be a tripfag on 4Chan other than "I want to" or "I provide a certain set of information that requires me to use a secure code so nobody can impersonate me". There are maybe two or three tripfags on the entire board who are so special that they actually require a tripcode to post so nobody hijacks their ID.

>an anon started /akg/
And that anon is I.
Very rarely does anyone else, let alone tripfags, start threads.
But it does seem to get fucked up in one way or another when others do.
>There's a couple anons who have done so flawlessly though, and I thank those guys.

I get the tripping too.
It's understandable to want to be recognized for one reason or another, whether good or bad.

>"I provide a certain set of information that requires me to use a secure code so nobody can impersonate me"
>There are maybe two or three tripfags on the entire board who are so special that they actually require a tripcode to post so nobody hijacks their ID

No.
If some fag wants to pretend to be OPpenheimer or whoever, they're usually exposed by their posts and lack of knowledge.
It's never necessary, but again I get it.

Despite the hate you garner, you're far from the worst trip.
Keep on keepin on, Nick.
>You need more AKs though.

>>
>>33114412
/arg/ is a popularity contest where people rush to make the new threads so that their trip will get the most exposure possible for the duration of that thread. Fortunately in /akg/ it's considered more of a burden which some get right and some don't.

There's very little honest justification for using a trip. People say "oh but so-and-so is a 'good trip.'" That may be true but so-and-so could just as easily make all of their contributions as anon. I guess I do it because it's a recognition thing, probably to supplement inadequacies in real life. That's the most honest explanation I can come up with.

They're most legitimately employed when a usual anon poster makes a thread where trolls might try to impersonate him to cause havoc. I used to do this on the NCSU YikYak before they added IDs and ruined my fun.

Yup. I got it as the receiver/kit build so I had to move the retainer cap anyways and checked. Everything looks good. I'm not even 100% sure what the blemish actually is, like I said all I can see is a small dimple on the right side of the receiver that's covered by the safety.

They are certainly the cheapest, but they were built with ESS barrels and they are WAY too soft for an AK barrel. They've been tested out at like 5 on the rockwell scale and they should be more like 25. Buyer beware if you get one.

It's a good rifle. It shoots just fine and I never experienced any keyholing. It is a Century (inb4 shit tier comment) that was made roughly 145 rifles after the keyholing batch,

I held an Arsenal AK with a folding stock at the shop today. Liked it quite a bit.

I've never owned an AK before. What is the definitive caliber? Mostly I'm worried about ammo availability in something like 5.45
>>
>>33118668
Fucking gay
>>
>>33118754
5.45 is easily available for 20-25c/round online
>>
>>33118772
Can't say I disagree, but thems the breaks.
>>
>>33118131
>Evidence?
It's bolted on vs pinned on (or dimpled on if they start with a Saiga).
>>
>>33118702
true but no
>>
>>33118754
I prefer the 5.45 rifles since they're closer to military and have better accuracy.

First pic has USA roll stamp and that pistol grip looks like the IO grip angle.

But it couldn't be, they're on par with Arsenal of Bulgaria :^)

Should we go the next thread with no pics or should we just wrap up this thread with it and do the next as normal?

Those rivets aren't under much stress, either, but the gun would probably malfunction.

I've got the next thread on deck, but that's up to the guys here whether or not they want to keep the "challenge" going.
It's not too bad, and it hopefully gets some new OC in our threads.

>>
>>33119173
I'm the one who originally posted the challenge and there isn't the amount of OC from new posters I was hoping for. If you guys want to I don't care, if it's just going to be as slow and boring as this thread and have as many whiny bitches as this thread then screw it lets do it as normal.

>>33119181
I'd rather have tryhard emotionally needy faggotry than pussy ass bitch niggas constantly complaining.
>>
>>33119207
Even the AR15 uses solid pins on the gas block..

Equal and opposite reaction, all the force being imparted on the piston head is also pushing the gas block forward.

what are the biggest mistakes made during the AK building process?

What are you trying to say with this? The AR-15 only uses a roll pin for the charging handle latch.

There's rollpins for the bolt catch, trigger guard too. But yea they're all in unimportant places

Just send it to someone who knows what they're doing.
Or get a cheaper kit and learn to build well then do the Russian.
