If you live in a state that allows private sales, can you buy a gun in another state that also allows private sales and bring it back over state lines? I'm having trouble finding a definite answer but I've heard fuddlore that says a long gun is okay but handguns are not.
>>
Also here's some recent unanswered questions from the last thread.
>>32982952
>>32981528
>>
>>32983082
Also I forgot to mention in my quedtion it's not that I'm trying to do anything illegal, but sometimes I see cool rare stuff I want pop up for sale in nearby states. Alternatively, can I meet the seller at a local FFL in his state to make the transaction and then take it back to my state?
>>
>>32983082
>can you buy a gun in another state that also allows private sales and bring it back over state lines?
no. private party sales must be between residents of the same state. to be legal...
>>
>Last thread reached bump limit.
Bump limit is 310 now, and you're only supposed to make a new thread after the bump limit AND the thread hits image limit or page 10.
>>
>>32983163
transferring it through an ffl is the legal way to do it, either in his state, or you pay him and have him mail it to your local ffl.
>>
hey gents, what's a good shoulder holder that i can use to CC under a jacket for my full-sized S&W SD9VE?
>>
>>32983189
Alright, thanks man.
>>32983181
My mistake, I just got on to ask this on the other thread but I thought the bump limit was 300.
>>
I just won a listing on gunbroker, and the seller is russian. He gave me his paypal and said "send money to paypal. Please no gun words." I sent him the money, and emailed him my name address phone number. Am I fucked? I don't trust Russians.
>>
>>32983082
All interstate sales have to go through an FFL. Rifles can be purchased using only an FFL in the state you're buying from, if you're there physically, otherwise it will have to be shipped to an FFL in your state. Pistols always have to be handled by an FFL in the state of the receiving party.
>>
>>32983082
No, private sales are always intended for in state residents. If you are not an in state citizen you must go through an FFL and given the ATF current guidelines that means you can only purchase long guns (a recent court ruling states that we should also be able to do hand guns, but the ATF has not updating shops yet on how to do so, so they will only do long guns still).
>>
>>32983216
paypal doesn't allow firearm transactions so you shouldn't talk about guns when you use it, if his feedback is okay he should be okay, vatnik notwithstanding. paypal will also offer you some protection.
>>
Is it possible to make a striker fired revolver with normal proportions, by having the striker/spring curve down into the grip?
>>
>>32983234
One more addition to this, you can totally have the person send the gun to a local FFL to receive it so there's that.
>>
>>32983216
was it really worth buying? i mean you could have found the same thing from a US seller?
>>
On the 4473, in regards to Mentally Invalid and the Criminal bits, if I haven't had ANY run ins with the law or Loony-bins as an Adult, am I in the clear to apply for a 4473?

Depends on the crime. In general juvenile records should be sealed, you should reflect on your prior history and make sure it doesn't break any of the super naughty bits: domestic violence, felony, or committed against your will.
>>
>>32983259
Most juvenile criminal stuff basically goes away unless it's an actual felony.
Being committed against your will does not.
>>
Hey guys, quick question: I will go to the US next week and I would really like to shoot there, but I'm french. Is the fact that I'm foreigner a legal problem ?
>>
>>32983309
To just shoot guns at a range? No.
>>
>>32983309
You are allowed to go to a range and rent in pretty much any state.
>>
>>32983314
Thanks, that's cool. I heard that NY sucks for gun control, but may I still have the opportunity to fire some 5,56 in range ? It's illegal in France
>>
>>32983337
Should be fine, the issue is finding a range and getting there, both of which can be easily done using the internet.
>>
>>32983373
Cool, do I need some kind of paper ? Or can I get there, pay, and start shooting ? Can I rent stuf there ? Can I pay for a short training ?
Sorry to have so much questions, I have no idea how this shit works
>>
>>32983405
The range will make you fill out a waiver usually, but that's entirely up to them.

Aside from that you just show up and shoot.
>>
>>32983082
Anyone know if Steyr holds records of manufactured firearms as far back as the First World War? I have a Steyr Mannlicher M95 that was at one point reassigned to a Drill-purpose rifle, and subsequently had the top of its barrel (where the date would have been stamped) drilled into as part of the demilitarization. I was wondering if it were possible to get the manufacture date from the serial number, knowing that Germans and Austrians are meticulous in keeping records of anything and everything.
>>
>>32983405
You will usually have to fill out a waiver. My local range also gives first time shooters a safety checklist and put their initials next to each entry.

Make sure you ask them how to operate what you're renting if they don't tell you and you're unfamiliar with it. Don't be afraid to ask any questions.
>>
I discovered my Mauser c96 barrel was shot out on my last range trip when my rounds were keyholing. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
>>
>>32983476
Chrome lining was originally a way to restore shot out barrels, by anodizing a new lay of metal to the inside of the bore. So there is that, but it's probably cost prohibitive.

I want to modify my Stag model 3 a bit. I don't like the current hand guard, mostly because I don't know which rails to put on it. It's the stock Diamondhead V-RS drop in. I'm also switching out the A2 style pistol grip. I'm already ordering a magpul grip. I wan to change stocks, but I'm in cuckachusetts and I would need to re pin the new stock.

Very important for casual shooting. A rather small concern for hunting or defensive.

Admittedly I've intentionally done quite a bit of unprotected shooting. I have a mild EEEEEEEEEEEE however if there's any back ground noise I don't hear it and only have hearing problems when two people are talking at once or mumble pathetically.

I need help making my next gun purchase.

I've had a burning desire for a S&W 442 for most of a year, especially since learning they came without locks and a local store stocks them for $350. I also just recently learned about the Mossberg 930 tactical (pic related version), which has an MSRP of around $620 but the same local store has for $420, so a killer deal

I have several guns, but my only shotgun is a Stoeger coach gun, which is basically a gimmick. I want the 442 more, and have wanted it for longer, but it also doesn't make a ton of sense since I don't concealed carry and don't plan to anytime soon because reasons. I just want it

The shotgun doesn't have any specific intended use either, I don't hunt and it's a shitty hunting/skeet gun, would be good for HD but I already have a gun for that, if anything my justification for it is SHTF fantasies due to politically motivated riots in the near future

Basically two guns I want just because I want them, but have to choose one or the other

>>32986187
Pistols that have a Browning locking action (tilting barrel) require a pistol booster to suppress because the weight of a suppressor can interfere with the mechanism and mess up cycling otherwise.

To get around this problem you want a pistol with a different barrel design. Beretta 92s (locked breach)and PX4s( rotating on the full size and compact only), and numerous fixed barrel designs (mausers, raven mp-25s, ruger mark series) are all good candidates for suppressors because they don't require boosters.
>>
>>32987841
Go for it anon, that's a good price, assuming nothing is wrong with it. Its good for long range shooting (fixed barrel accuracy), medium game (think white tail deer or smaller) hunting and hiking defense (hot and heavy .357 is good for most things without 'grizzly' in the name), especially with a 9+1 capacity.
Also, word on the street is that the .357 ones feel like a wonder 9 when shot, because of the weight.

Just keep in mind you can only use jacketed stuff in it though, lead bullets can mess up the gas system quick.

So apparently buying steel core .308 (or selling it) is highly illegal thanks to our favorite alphabet agency. What I'm unsure of is if you're able to buy the bullets then reload them for your personal use.

Wut?

>>32992299

Or maybe just manufacturers can't make new stock, idk. All I see for sale is old military surplus that's way too expensive along with people saying AP ammo is illegal if it can be used in pistols.
>>
6 years ago I was involuntarily commited to a mental hospital for a suicide attempt, and I'm not sure what the legality of owning and using guns is for me. Looking it up online, it looks like I can't legally own them, but I've been to a shooting range out of my state (NJ) last year multiple times and never had any issues. Is there a way to verify what my status is for buying or using guns, or improve that status if it restricts me from owning them? I'd love to practice more with pistols and eventually earn my own, but I also don't want to break any laws.

>I know that nuggets were the old babby's first milsurp meme, but now that prices are going up, does it still hold that title?
Still basically the cheapest milsurp rifle you can buy from a retailer.
>inb4 someone trots out those Century Spanish M1916s that SAMCO wouldn't even sell because they were in such shit condition
>How does it compare as a first milsurp rifle compared to others like Mausers?
Mausers were the old babby's first bolt-action milsurp; back in the 1990s Yugo, Turkish, and Russian-captured German ones sold for less than nugget prices today even adjusted for inflation.

I personally think the Mauser 98 is a better overall rifle than the Mosin 91. Reliable surplus ammo for any of the Mauser calibers is not as available as it once was but can still be found on the secondary market. Generally if you're going to get into milsurp you should anticipate having to handload; the chances of new surplus ammo availability for anything other than 7.62x54mmR and 7.62NATO are only going to diminish, since they are the only full-power military service cartridges still in large-scale production at this date.

On the secondary market sure; they aren't retail anymore.

So too most of the other late-19th-early-20th-century smokeless cartridges; that pales in comparison to the availability of those cartridges when they were still in service. 8x57IS is the most popular Mauser cartridge and you can count on one hand the companies that manufacture components for it annually.

How much cheaper is it to build a gun than to buy one?

I can't afford to buy a decent semi-automatic rifle (AR, AK, or battle rifle). Like, right now my arsenal consists of a Windicator and a Hipoint carbine. How much cheaper are they to build yourself? What guns are the parts readily available for? (besides the obvious AR and AK)

Is it possible to snap up good deals on parts one by one as you see them used, and assemble a cheap frankenstein build? That's what I did with my PC... I assume that would only be possible with an AR15 as they're so commonly built

And finally, how much skill do you need to build most rifles? I've never built one before, but I'm decent with small tools and never had trouble stripping and disassembling the guns I do have.

Yes. I have a spare lower I picked up last spring before the panic really ramped up and I never did anything with it. I could have a complete working rifle for ~$430.

You'll be fine. I had never disassembled or even fired an AR15 before I built mine.

A lot of the 4473 is honor based. The mental health, drunkard, addicted to illicit substances, etc. don't really show up on NICS. NICS mostly just checks for criminal history. Worst that happens is that NICS comes back saying you can't buy one.

If you really want a gun you can get one, but I can respect you if you don't because the state will arbitrarily make you a criminal for wanting to defend yourself.

>tl;dr you can get one, but expect to get ass fucked if you end up in anything other than the perfect, liberal, text-book example of a self defense shooting

Alright /k/, I have a massive problem, I currently live my parents but am moving out in 6 months, both of them are very anti-gun any they want to shred my room in about a month and paint the walls (even though I disagree with it, but that's unimportant). My stepmother caught me with a pellet gun once so she searched all my stuff and sent me to a psychologist for three months so I'm terrified of what she might do if she finds I have firearms, even though they are legal.

TL; DR: What are some good places to store firearms away from crazy anti-gunners and those who would use them for evil.

Storage pods are a no-go because I'm fucking poor. I'm fine with the idea of burning them but the ground is frozen under two feet of snow.

Get a piece of PVC big enough to fit them, either individually or all in one. Wrap them each up in trashbags and throw in some of those moisture absorbing packets. Cap off both ends of the pipe with the proper sized PVC caps + some sealant, and bury it in the back yard.

Trying to find the answer to this but I can't. I presume the answer is 'yes it'll be fine'.

I'm in MA want to sell a gun of mine to a shop but can't find the registration paper to it. I'm assuming I don't really need the paper since the shop can pull up all the info to confirm I am indeed the owner and it is indeed registered, but I can't find an actual answer anywhere.

I'm not going to illegally buy a gun, but I want to legally shoot targets and stuff. So are you implying it's all honor based, going to ranges included? I'd love to get into gun culture, but I worry that it's not legally possible from a mistake so long ago. What are the consequences of lying?
>>
>>32996503
Practice, practice, practice. Plink away at the range or outside to work on your marksmanship. Practice firing from cover, and fast reloads.

If you're a wheelgunfag like me, do what I do and practice with your speedloader over and over while watching videos or something.

Disassemble and reassemble your guns until you could do it in your sleep.

General physical fitness. Body weight exercises like push-ups, etc. Time yourself running a mile, and improve your time--fighting takes stamina.

Also, airsoft or paintball. Seriously. People make fun of them, but they're good for learning to utilize cover and fire at a moving target.

Practice your woodcraft--toughen yourself up in the outdoors. Go camping, with the bare minimum of gear. Learn the nature in your area and how to survive and stalk around in it.

Hand-to-hand fighting is the one thing you can't really train for on your own. Take a couple of courses if you can spare the money. Or, get a friend to wrestle and box. It's better than nothing.

You don't really need official military training to become competent--or at least better than 99% of dindus. Most of these skills can be gained by sheer repetition.

How much do I have to worry about lead toxicity when casting bullets?

If I live in, say, a tiny ass apartment with no garage or porch, where should I go to cast?

I'm very interested in buying pic related for my 21st birthday in about 3 weeks. Although I want to purchase it so that it'd arrive around my birthday. I have a question for the event that it may arrive at my local FFL before my birthday.

I live in NOVA. Is it legal for me to pay for the gun using my own funds, and have my father pick up the gun and sign the papers in his name, then hand it over as a gift, or is this still straw purchasing by law?
>>
>>33000090
That's a straw purchase if the whole intention was to have a proxy buy the gun for you. Now, if he got it for himself then decided to give it to you later, that's legal.

But then again, there's no way to track any of that, so if he agrees, you can have him by it for you.
>>
>>33000264

What if I particularly purchase it with MY credit card via gunbroker?

I suppose my final question would be, can I purchase a handgun preemptively before my birthday, and have an FFL hold it until that day to file the paperwork legaly?

Okay, this one had been fucking with me because I can never get a concise yes or no. When I was 17 I voluntarily went to a partial hospitalization program to deal with depression and anxiety. I was not confined against my will and every afternoon I could come home and be with my family. I've seen things that say that doesn't limit my right to own a gun, I've seen it say I can't, I've seen it say it's okay to buy a gun 6 months after that happened when it was voluntary. I've seen things say it doesn't matter as long as I wasn't sent to the facility by a judge. And what annoys me is this is all for just Minnesota, if I move I'm going to have to go through this all over again.

TL;DR does a voluntary partial hospitalization that happened 3 years ago affect my ability to purchase a firearm in MN?

Trying to figure this out and nitpicking at legal definitions is very annoying so anyone that helps can look at this cute shark
>>
>>33000310
That's a bit murky.

>What if I particularly purchase it with MY credit card via gunbroker?
I don't think that makes any difference. Most banks can't see exactly what you bought, and gunbroker runs off the honor system for it's users eligibility to buy guns. While not exactly legal, I don't see a way you can be caught.

>I suppose my final question would be, can I purchase a handgun preemptively before my birthday, and have an FFL hold it until that day to file the paperwork legaly?
Totally up to the FFL. Some might be chill and willing to hold it. Others might straight up report you for trying to buy a handgun while underage. A friend f mine tried the same thing, and the old fudd FFL reported him. He had the ATF up in his shit for a week, but thankfully they could not incriminate him. Know your FFL well if you try this.
>>
>>33000323
NO, but best way to find out is to just go buy one. If you pass the check, you're fine.
>>
>>33000365

Thanks for the info. I'll be straight up with my FFL in that case beforehand. I'll simply ask if he'll hold one until my birthday in that case.

Gunbroker has a few good Schofield No3 Russians in 45LC that I want to take advantage of, but I'd rather hate being just a few days late to buy them.
