QTDDTOTT:

I moved to Florida in march of 2015, I have yet to change my license over because I don't have an original copy of my birth certificate. So can I go into a gun shop here and buy a stripped lower or will that be a problem. According to this itcs fine but I want to hear from you guys before they say nah redguard gtfo.
>>
>>32926038
Dunno how Florida works, but in my state you have 10 days to update your DL or ID after you move, otherwise if it's not current and up to date you can't buy shit.
>>
Please do not use this thread until this one >>32914872 expires, thank you.
>>
In Georgia you have to be a resident of the state with current identification and proof of residence (if you've moved since getting the ID).
It is probably the same in Florida.
>>

>>

Can you not get a Certificate of Live Birth or do they not take it at yonder DMV?

All I had to do when I moved is original Georgia ID and utility bill with current address to change to new WA DL.
>>
>>32926816
Please don't let this annoying kike derail a perfectly fine QTDDTOT thread.

Nobody else reply to this post and take the bait, you're better than that /k/.

Fuck it, guess this is the thread we're on now. So why is the AK 74 around the same weight as an M16A2? I keep hearing that long stroke pistons and steel receivers are stupid heavy, so what gives?

>>

A lot of the M16 is thicker. And think about for example the top of the receiver for each. The M16A2 has a big metal carry handle on a solid upper. The AK has a tiny dust cover.

I've been looking to buy a both a decent rifle for home defense/plinking and a pistol for carry on the cheap. I don't want anything garbage but I also don't want anything super expensive either.

I've heard Bulgarian Makarov's are pretty good pistols for the money but I don't know if they'd be good enough for carry.

Would it be worth the while to save up the money for something like an AR for its utility?
>>
>>32928257
No, let him blow his foot off. He must learn.
>>
>>32926038
I want her to make me eat her out at gunpoint.
>>
>>32928326
Maks are a popular oddball carry pistol, but due to the less common 9x18 round it's not suggested as a first CCW gun because you may not have as many opportunities to practice. The Mak IS highly recommended for someone interested in reloading, though.

Without knowing really what you're looking for in a carry gun I'd suggest a Glock 19 or similar (Steyr M9a1, etc) compact/subcompact 9mm Striker-fired doublestack pistol. The Smith and Wesson Shield or SD9VE are good bargain bin versions of the Glock, but be wary with older models as they have dogshit triggers that S&W will probably replace for you.
For a bigger framed guy you can also get away with a revolver in .357/.38 which has great learning versatility, but may not be the most optimum carry piece.
Ultimately with a carry piece its imperative to try before you buy and do a lot of trying, because you are never going to walk in and out of your LGS with the best carry piece for you in one go.

As far as an AR, while they are popular first long guns I find the real benefit comes from their modularity and the ability to heavily customize them, which may be beyond your experience level or budget. If you just want a general innawoods/home defense long gun then a traditional semi-automatic .223 or even a 12ga shotgun like the Remington 870 or Mossberg 590 are good choices.
>>
>>32928469
Good point on the ammo availability for the Maks.

Yeah I'm a 6' dude and tend to wear loose clothing, so maybe revolvers would work, but they also tend to be a good deal heavier than polymer pistols don't they?

I'm not too worried about ammo capacity for the pistols since most self defense engagements are over within just a few rounds, but will definitely take a look at the striker fired polymers.

I'm starting to think of getting an AR as an investment for the very reasons you state. After all, even without immediately buying the gadgets for it and simply using it out of the box, they'll last as long as you do so long as you maintain it and replace the barrel every 20k or so rounds, right?
>>
>>32928338
>No I won't. I'm putting the retention strap on my holster under the hammer

>no, it's not gonna snag, I tested my draw a bunch
>>
>>32928019
no. what did you fail for degenerate
>>
>>32928582
Revolvers do tend to be heavier than polymer pistols though with a good holster the weight should disappear just like a wallet you're accustomed to - though finding the right balance of firearm, weight and holster is the balancing act of learning to concealed carry.
Again, try as much as you can before you buy and don't settle for anything cheap you don't want - a Glock with a bad grip angle or a Shield with a shit trigger is not a good investment just because it's cheap or someone on /k/ says you should get it.

A bog standard AR like the Ruger 556 or S&W MP15 will serve decently well, but when you go to Gucci it out later you're going to be limited to the starting specs of those cheaper out-of-the-box rifles, so you'll have to decide for yourself whether you're liable to succumb to the sunk-cost fallacy there. Again, consider a cheaper stock .223 rifle which will give you exactly the same ballistic capabilities at a reduced price.

Getting my first pistol. Don't intend to carry it on my person unless I am camping. Mostly just a range gun. Is it better to have something compact or full sized? Hands are normal sized. I was thinking about getting a Jericho 941F steel or a CZ 75. Or a compact P2000.
>>
>>32927458
That wouldn't work because
- A paystub isn't issued by the government.
-You still have to have the ID issued by that state in the first place. The proof of residence was needed if you had moved within the state.

I'm sure you can get your birth certificate without travelling back to that state, you'll probably just have to send in something like a notarized request.
>>
>>32929532
Well obviously the only benefit of a compact is it being smaller and lighter, which is a double edged sword. A longer, heavier gun will have lighter felt recoil and better accuracy. If you don't intend to conceal the firearm then a full size is the obvious choice.

(a) buy privately
(b) despite being universally illegal, people move and keep their old dl and registration pretty frequently
(c) You can buy firearms other than rifles and shotguns in any state in which you are present with the intention of making a home.
(d) You must satisfy the Brady requirement of government-issued combination of identifying documents to prove residence. Your old license and any government-issued paper with your name and your Florida address will work, eg a fishing license.

Mak ammo is actually surprisingly easy to find now. Instore is difficult, but plenty of places online. Tulammo shit is cheap but dirty, Wolf is a bit better, Silver/Brown Bear is around the same as Wolf, and Hornady does Critical Defense in 9mm Mak for carry. I see 9x18 as a decent carry round: .010 bigger than 9mm, and more powerful than .380. Maks themselves are a bit dense being all-steel, but small in size and not super difficult to conceal imo
>>
>>32936387
They developed the system after failing to get a fair price on FAL licensing so everyone else already had a system in place and it wasn't worth switching. The biggest upside to the set would be parts interchangeability but that doesn't matter if you're not stocked up on those parts. You'll notice that smaller countries, special forces, police forces, and private military companies around the world did in fact employ many of those weapons up until the turn of the century. It wasn't cost prohibitive for them to switch from what they had and there was no political pressure preventing a change.

Any Massfags know any good public RIFLE ranges? Ive been to a few decent indoor pistol ranges, but have uet to find any low commitment rifle ranges (all local require membership/volunteer during work hours/sponsorship things etc... which are frankly unfeasible for a fairly young, closer to 30 than 20 single dude who does computer shit for a living, in terms of time commitment requitements etc...)

I really just want a casual walk-on rifle range open to the general public (as opposed to members with intensive requitements). I dont care about WHERE in mass, i dont mind making a weekend trip (drive out friday after work and check in, shoot all sat and take in the local attractions/restaurants, drive back sunday), I'm just lookijg for anything really. Been into guns for a while, but literally got a couple of rifles ive never actually fired which ive had for YEARS due to the absence of convenient rifle near the Boston area since I moved here a couple years ago.

Glock 20 or 29.

In an armored truck, how is someone ever going to be in the passenger seat trying to take your gun? They will either have killed you already or be locked out of said vehicle on the basis of it being a fucking armored truck.

Unless you're worried about your partner...

>>32929532
G34 is larger then full size, as it's a competition pistol with a longer barrel and slide. 9mm so you can blast away all day and not go broke. I like the sights from the factory, but it takes g17 sights. And mags. And basically everything. I've run the absolute shit out of mine and it keeps running.

Are PTR's the best repops? Atlantic has PTR GI's for 899. Will they run WOLF?

Why is everything cheap but the rifles? I'm not complaining here, but seriously. Mags are 1/3rd the price of glock mags (24 bucks for a 3 pack).

12 bucks a set? I'll buy 3 for funsies.

Am I a bad person for getting the one with the rail? I may at some point want to hit something squishy more then 300 yards away, and squishy things keep moving all the damn time. Floridan reporting in.

You need an up to date license or they will hold your stuff until you produce one.

My first gun purchase I filled out the form and had not updated my license and the guys at the shop said that the gun was mine but they could not let it leave until I updated my license.

I ended up updating my license and getting back before close but it was a pain in the ass. Most gun shops in the state are pretty great though.

My bad. Luckily, my steel wool efforts were so fruitless that I gave up after going at a tiny section for a little while. The fittings were legitimately unsightly, and I'm glad I cleaned those up, regardless of what anons say, but it's good to know that cleaning the blade would be an exercise in futility.

do pellets not damage the inside of the barrel of a shotgun when you shoot? is it because lead is too soft?

Yes, steel is pretty hard and is resistant to most metals, although aluminum will damage barrels. Also pellets are held in a plastic cup called a wad to prevent them from bouncing around too much.

My neck sizing die leaves my cases like this. The neck sizer is much simpler than a full resize, and I'd much rather just use these than full resize and have it 100% factory if it's not a huge issue. These are plinking loads, so I'm not expecting match accuracy out of them.

Why is 5.7×28mm thing?

Personal Defense / FN Herstal wut.

Seriously though, why is 5.7×28mm even a thing?

Utility?

There are some FN pistols chambered for it, and the literally P90 meme, but anywho.

Why does this exist?

AP rifle rounds are not though.

I just don't see the utility for the caliber.

Uhuh. Ok. I see. Yeah. No.

It rips through IIIA out of a 4.8" barrel at 50 meters. That's why it exists. That's what it does. Great for when you need to kill some punks in armor, I guess. Sure beats 9mm if they've got vests on.

>>
>>32973616
The whole PDW concept is why it exists.

PDW calibers are basically to pistols what assault rifle calibers are to full rifle calibers.

The shoot super high velocity and low recoil. Meant to primarily be used in PDWs to have shootouts within 100 meters against people with body armor. The idea was these are the guns you give to military tankers and truck drivers to replace their SMGs so they can fight enemy forces wearing body armor.

They made pistols chambered in the same caliber after the fact because why not?

PDWs aren't dead, but they are pretty fucking niche. Most of the roles they were intended to fill are filled with carbines these days.

To play devil's advocate. How would one argue the fact that since the gun control measures taken after the port Arthur Massacre in Australia took effect, no mass shootings have occured?

I mean I agree it's immortal to disarm lawful citizens, but how would one argue the effectiveness of such a measure in Australia?
>>
>>32975061
To play "Not a reatard", how would one argue the fact that before Port Arthur, there WERE no mass shootings of note?

The only one was pretty much 100% government staged, and then they take all the guns away from everyone because of it. It was a massive power grab.

How long is left on the 30 year embargo?
>>
>>32975061
Look at other mass killings. A couple of weeks ago, there was a guy who went on a rampage with his car and killed a bunch of people. If someone wants to kill a bunch of people, there's a bunch of other ways. Also the cops were too cucked to shoot him until he had been on a rampage for literally hours.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-01-21/melbourne-car-attack-death-toll-hits-5-after-3mo-baby-dies/8200808

I'd also look at the overall murder rate to see if it has changed since the ban. Last I checked it hadn't, but I'd need to look at the data again.

>>
>>32975667
Its a very good gun, it's just also 30% more expensive then it needs to be. And in the wrong cal if you don't plan to suppress it.

If you have a boner for it, get it. It will run great.

Fuck FN-X's, just get a g21 at that point.

FNX is slightly bigger, ambidextrous, and higher capacity.

I know you're reputable since you have a tripcode- I'm gonna knock the Glock since I don't like the trigger safety and just get the USP. Any other suggestions though? Was looking at Beretta 92's and some SIG's. .45 is really appealing but 9mm is cute to me as well.
>>
>>32939236
Romanian 8mm sucks, don't shoot it
>>
>>32976326
At the end of the day, is it a fun gun or a personal protection gun?

If it's a gun for fun, 45 is fun.
If it's a gun you're going to carry, you should really get a 9mm. Basically every trainer in the country will tell you 9mm>380>45ACP>357sig>10mm>40cal
9mm is more controllable, allows a higher mag cap, and does the same damage to unarmored threats as any of the others listed (save 10mm).

If you can shoot a .45 well, you can shoot a 9mm better. It's basic physics. You won't be able to shoot as fast or as accurately with a bigger bullet.

Is your dislike of the trigger safety the fact that it replaces an actual safety, or that it's annoying to you in some way? I cannot comprehend how you could think it's in the way, as it's the most passive passive safety currently on the market...

Go take a Fighting Pistol class and pay attention to what the trainer is using. Ask why they are using it.

Beretta 92's are great and they are very easy to control in rapid fire because they are so heavy. There's tons of shit sticking out the back of it that could or could not get caught on things if you're carrying it though. This is why 90% of PD' in the country issue striker fired guns now.
I don't have much experience with SIGs, they still have shit sticking out the back of them which I don't like.

Sorta correct.

If you already have a FL license, you have 10 days to update it after changing addresses or names.

You have 30 days from moving in state to change to FL license.

Or, you could just use your out of state license and buy it anyways. FL will sell long guns to out of state people.

Anyone know if Steyr holds records of manufactured firearms as far back as the First World War? I have a Steyr Mannlicher M95 that was at one point reassigned to a Drill-purpose rifle, and subsequently had the top of its barrel (where the date would have been stamped) drilled into as part of the demilitarization. I was wondering if it were possible to get the manufacture date from the serial number, knowing that Germans and Austrians are meticulous in keeping records of anything and everything.
